Hi all. Starting my journey.
Nyelaah replied to chopsitter's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! What insurance do you have sounds like a quick turnaround... Good for you! -
It depends on your insurance and health overall. Through tests within the next 6 months you can uncover some additional health issues like I did (hopefully not). Below was my process: Jan- WLS seminar Jan-PCP blood work (diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. Jan-called insurance to confirm WLS details. I need 3 mth surprised, 40+ BMI or less than 40 BMI with 2 comorbidities. Feb-initial meeting with WLS center. Same day did additional blood work to check out my Vitamin levels. Feb-endoscopy Feb-sleep test(found out I had mild sleep apnea, needed 2nd sleep test, and need CPAP for the months before surgery then not after) March-Psych evaluation and clearance letter. He gave me the little right then and there. Depends on your doc they might ask for longer time visiting psych. March-PCP clearance letter March-1st weight loss maintenance meeting with center. March-2nd sleep test April-2nd weight management meeting April-meet with endoscopy doctor for antibiotics. Endoscopy found I had a bacteria. April-meet with sleep doctor for cpap machine. Need to use cpap for 1 mth before pulmonary clearance letter. After letter, still need to use machine until surgery. Coming up: May- last weight loss management meeting and NUT meeting on same day. Center will send paperwork into insurance. After insurance approval. I will meet with doctor and schedule surgery. I am looking to have surgery mid July because it works with my work schedule. I'm planning to take 2 weeks off and possibly work from an office near by either the second week and not take 2 week vacation. Or the third week and take two week vacation. So overall it will take me 6 mths! Oh and from what I know I will have to do a preop diet. It will consist of 1 low carb meal a day then liquids-Protein shakes I believe. This is my journey so far but everyone is different depending on doc. My friends doc didn't require sleep test for her not sure why! Good luck!

Thanks Canyonbaby! That's what I am trying to focus on ???? Dr. Bagloo at Columbia Pres in NYC. -
Hi all! Just saw the sleep doctor and even though I have very very mild sleep apnea (7.2 avg is 0-5) I have to use the machine until surgery. I dreaded using the machine for the study and am sure will dread it now. I have 3 vacations and will have to lug the machine with me :-( I am going to look like a monster in the Caribbean lol On the upside, the doc said after a month of using it (atleast 5 hrs a night, 7 days) he will give me clearance for surgery. Soooo I am definitely on my way there and all in perfect timing. Looks like I will be able to get a surgery date of July which is my goal if all goes well with my insurance clearance. I don't anticipate any issues since I have diabetes, blood pressure, BMI 40+, and sleep apenea (damn, I'm like a walking I don't know what lol) Ok ya'll ONE more month until all my paperwork goes through for insurance clearance!!! Excited!

Thank you so much for this! As a newbie I appreciate every single one of every experience vsger. I can't tell you how many times you all made me feel like I CAN do this and that its all going to be alright---Even if there are bumps along the road. I have learned that there are bumps, successes, and that everyones journey is different BUT that we al have a monster in common OBESITY! It truly hurts when some folks (they know who they are) bring people down and give them "tough love." I get that it's a blog and you should not take this to heart however, people come here mostly when they are confused or in a bad mental place. Anyways... Thanks for this post!!! -

Congrats!! So these pics are after the sleeve and after a tummy tuck? -
Oh and tests... I think it depends on your insurance and health, but I had to get a endoscopy, physc evaluation/clearance, sleep test, 3 mth weight management session, NUT meeting, and a letter from my pcp. Depending on our health issues and insurance I think depends on further testing. I got diagnosed with sleep apnea which was discovered through the sleep test so that took an extra two visits that I did not plan for. They also found a bacteria with the biopsy from the endoscopy which I need antibiotics for so I need to see the doctor for that too. So altogether 3 additional visits/tests I didn't account for initially. I have heard of stress tests, 6mth to 1 year weight management, cardic clearance and pulmonary clearance.

They take a full blood work....But since I had a physical not that long before my surgeons office I took copies of those tests and just took some blood work to check out my vitamin count Etc.. I found it very helpful to already come in with all the blood work and info.
-
