    Pissed Off Husband

Dear Miss Goldy, You've been through so much! As far as your gall bladder surgery is concerned-it's not all that unusual for a gall bladder to act up after a patient has surgery for something else. I had a total hyst and 2 weeks later-after a good deal of pain, nausea and vomiting-I had my gall bladder out. At that time, I heard of a number of people who've had that happen. We might have had some underlying issues with the gb and the additional stress of any surgery brought the problem to the surface. Now with any weight loss surgery you need to be clear in your mind who you are going through this for and what results you desire. Hopefully we can say we are doing this for ourselves-to improve our health, our confidence, or hell-just to save money on fat clothes! It's hard not to sound preachy, but it's probably not the best idea to do it because you think someone else wants you to do it. Some significant others may put up a fuss because they believe when your slim and gorgeous you will leave them! I'm just gonna suggest you not be the little sponge sucking up all that nastiness that will find its' way into your brain and confidence. In the first year of my bypass I had lost about 70-80 lbs. and as I passed a full-length mirror one day and saw a much-slimmer me, I was almost horrified that I looked that thin! Why horrified? I have some ideas stemming back into my childhood, but the point is that I gained back a good 50 lbs because It took my brain a while to get a handle on the situation. Back a moment to possible complications of having a gastric bypass. While I'm satisfied I've gone through it, I have had issues early on with electrolyte imbalance. I received outpt IV therapy several times. Very low Iron and B12 requiring me to give myself B12 shots every month. Kidney stones last year or two. Luckily they resolved on their own. The most serious was a twisted bowel which required emergency surgery at 2 am in the morning. The surgeon was very clear that this could even happen again-because of the gastric bypass. Even after a year I don't feel I have my strength back yet. So lots and lots to think about. Be strong, and be honest with yourself, if you can. Be the calm in the storm, girl-whatever you decide to do!
