Be Honest...keeping BMI and weight the same for surgery
ArtSmartInNH replied to Lexigurl82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can relate to this! I tried my best to lose the pre-op weight... And succeeded. Though as you describe and worry about, I lost too much and would have been denied by my insurance as I didn't have comorbidities... If I didn't literally put sand bags in my pockets for my final weigh in at my Drs office. With adding 4 lbs of sand my pre-op BMI was 40.1. It was scary to work so hard to only have it almost pulled out from under me at the last moment. I don't regret doing this one bit. Do what's best for you and your family. You can work towards being successful at the surgery without losing weight: practice eating slow, portioning, reading labels. Good luck! -
My son is 13 months old and my surgery date in is about 4-6 weeks. When I started the journey, I thought that stopping nursing around now would be okay- we would both be ready, but neither of us are... Mornings and nights are really it, but it makes nighttime routine and sleeping in to a decent hour possible. Sooo... Is it possible to continue nursing after surgery? I know the first day or so I'll be too sore, but after then? Or is there just not enough calories/fluid intake for production? Anyone have any insight/experiences to share? Thanks!

Any teachers in here?!?
ArtSmartInNH replied to NJE123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm an elementary teacher- sleeved 4/21/15 week before April vacation. Took week of surgery off and vacation and hoped to go back afterwards. Recovery was hard and I had some complications. I needed an extra week, which I took, but it was very stressful. If I had to do it again, I would not change when I did it (I didn't want my whole summer vacation to be recovery) BUT I would plan on more time off, especially if you are with little ones. I was tired and weak and cranky and going back was very taxing on my patience -
Vacation 3 weeks post-op?
ArtSmartInNH replied to 3bzmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would've been miserable going on vacation 3 weeks post op. I'm 6 weeks now, and just starting to be able to feel normal! -
this might be a bit awkward but....
ArtSmartInNH replied to Courtneyxo17's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Take the lax! 1.5 weeks is too long. You'll end up needing an enema... That's really awkward. -
Since your surgery, what are some of the things you struggle with? How do you cope?
ArtSmartInNH replied to BostonStrong617's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
4 weeks post op and I'm still struggling bad with protein- I maybe get 15-20g a day. I've developed lactose intolerance making many phase 2&3 foods off limits, as well as milk based Protein shakes. I was re admitted 1 week post op for dehydration, and I feel like I'm heading down that road again :/ -

Need help from other busy working Moms!

Really struggling to focus on myself and my young family (4 year old and 1 year old), teacher FT, and keep up with life in general 3 weeks post op. I just can't figure out where and how to schedule my drinks, eating, prescriptions, and Vitamins in my day. Something is always forgotten. I'm having a hard time deciphering whether I'm always tired or just so overwhelmed. Oh, and my dog now has diabetes and needs two shots a day. Oy vey. -
I can't drink any protein! Help
ArtSmartInNH replied to Kristy Haugen Oliver's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I just got some of this today and it was awesome! First protein I've enjoyed and kept down in 2.5 weeks. They also have a line of protein soups that I'm going to get too. -
I can't drink any protein! Help
ArtSmartInNH replied to Kristy Haugen Oliver's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My main problem is built up gas... I walk, take gas x, deep breaths, but not enough comes out. Eventually the pressure wins out and I vomit. All the gas want to come up, not go down. I think I've only farted like twice in 2.5 weeks since my sleeve. Normal? -

What is everyone taking for antacids? Prescription, dose and frequency please!
-
I'm currently in a rough patch right now... And my surgeon is on vacation :/ Whenever I try to advance from phase one to phase two, I end up vomiting. Trying to get my doctor to give me more antacids or the protonic I was on in the hospital. He did just give me a pre-scription for zofran

Probably would have been best to include my stage also- I'm 2 weeks post-op sleeve with hernia repair

1 week out, vomiting and feeling horrible
ArtSmartInNH posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Last night I tried a creamed potato Soup and it literally just sat above my pouch. Horrible nausea, chest pain, and slime until I finally puked it up around 1am. Felt much better this morning though not great. Finally tried to drink some premier Protein drink around noon- maybe took in 2 ounces and again it started- pain and vomiting... Called clinic and they said only Water for 24 hours and if the vomiting and pain persists through that go to ER. I'm starting to worry that I've damaged my stomach. Before all this I was doing pretty good :/ Experiences? Advice? Thanks :/ -
1 week out, vomiting and feeling horrible
ArtSmartInNH replied to ArtSmartInNH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: I went to ER last night. I was having esophageal spasms from the vomiting. Got an IV and pain meds and swallow study. Giving every time time to calm down and then got some anti heartburn meds. Now slowly sipping just water- about an ounce per hour. Will be spending another night on just Water until I can hopefully get in 30+ ounces on my own.... Baby steps -

Hi All, I had my surgery early this morning (4/21 @7am) and gas pressure has been pretty horrible at times. I'm walking and trying to lay on my side regularly... Any other suggestions or tips?

Looking for some insight from post-ops, as I'm still pre-op. How was your hypothyroidism managed post sleeve? Are you able to hold down meds? Did your dosing change as you lost weight? Has anyone's thyroid returned to normal range/function? Thanks so much!
