  1. Where's your protein? You're going to be consuming very low calories right out of surgery, but you need to be getting protein in.

    QUESTIONS...

Dehydration. You need to be getting at least 40oz in. I know it's hard. I'm one week post op and I'm constantly sipping to get in my water.

    Perfectly Imperfect: Ashley's VSG Story

1 Week Post-Op Update: I had my first post op appointment today. From the start of my pre-op diet to today (3 weeks) I am down 29lbs! They checked out my incisions, and asked how I have been doing getting in my Protein and Water. Answer? Not great. I feel like I'm sipping constantly and still can't get in 40oz of water. They cleared me for Full liquids and when I got home I had a pudding cup (well half of one) and it was amazing! Really working to get in at least 40oz of water. I'm worried about how I will manage this once I go back to work.

    Stress test :(

I was told during my stress test that they aren't allowed to tell you during the test whether or not you have failed. That a doctor will call you if there was anything wrong. And that no news is good news.

    What protein shakes are preferred?

I thought premier protein smells like baby formula and tastes terrible. I use GNC Amp in chocolate. It tastes so good.
  6. If your back hurts from the gas use a heating pad. Really helped a lot as well.
  7. I don't remember experiencing anything like this while I was pregnant.
  8. Luckily they pass quickly. I just wasn't expecting for it to settle under my rib cage on my left side. Made me feel like my heart was hurting. A tip though. My nurse cupped her hands and basically beat on my upper back and chest. And it really helped to break up the bubbles. Also she gave me an ice pack that I put on my chest where the gas pain was and that seemed to help as well.

    Great news with a rant

I think perhaps once you get through your pre-op diet you have more room to rant. I substituted a Oscar Mayer Protein pack for my Soup everyday during my pre-op diet. That's "cheating" but whatever. I did what I needed to do to get through it. And lost 21lbs in the process. Congratulations on your approval. I just hope that once you start this journey your thoughts may soften some. Have compassion for others. We're all here for the same reason. We need to do our best to lift each other up not beat people down. You will have your slip ups. May not be during pre-op. But could be months down the road. But you shouldn't judge others on their path unless you would want the same attitude thrown at you in your hour of weakness. May he without sin cast the first stone. (Not being all Godly on ya, but it's a very fitting quote)

After surgery care? Need your input!

Every place is different. There is no "standard". This is just how my surgeon's office and this particular surgery center worked. If they didn't tell you it was going to happen then it shouldn't have been expected. I was told before hand. At your next appointment you need to ask at what intervals post op that you should expect to be seen. And then also make sure you know how after hours care works.

After surgery care? Need your input!

I got a call from the surgery center nurse the day after my surgery to check in on me, and I have my first follow up appointment tomorrow at a week out. Then one more at 2 weeks with the dietician. All of these appointments were scheduled prior to my surgery so I knew about them. And when you checked in at the surgery center they had you fill out paperwork saying that a nurse was going to call the next day.
  12. I wish someone had told me that the "gas pressure" was going to settle up under my rib cage and feel like someone was sitting on my chest.

    Hiccups

I got hiccups several times right after surgery before they had given me anything to drink. Omg they hurt so bad!!!
  14. Once off pain meds for 24 hours is the general rule.

    how are approvals handled?

I don't think that rep knows what they are talking about. Surgeons office puts everything together and submits to insurance. If you are wanting to check on it then you won't be speaking with a regular rep. Follow the options to check on a claim. Then tell the person you are wanting to check on the approval status for claim that was submitted. They will be able to give you a lot more information. Btw, when you call in if you have been approved ask the person for the approval number and then call and give it to your surgeons office. That will get the ball rolling quicker than having to wait for the approval to reach your surgeons office. That's what I did and I received the approval letter in the mail the day AFTER my surgery

    Almost surgery time!

Quick weightloss can cause you to start your period. Mine did but luckily It finished before surgery day. I would just call your doc office and ask them what they prefer in circumstances like this. I promise you they have dealt with it.

    March Sleevers

What did you mix your shake with? From what I understand a lot of people have an aversion to milk after the surgery. I was sleeves on the 25th and I've been using isopure drinks to get in my protein.

    March Sleevers

I'm 2 days off pain meds. 4 days post op (not counting surgery day) I'm down 42lbs from my highest weight. Doing my best to get my fluids in. Already tired of isopure drinks. Ready to graduate from clear liquids to full liquid!

    Compression shirt 3 days out

I put my tank back on and it seems to be helping. Only one of my incisions hurts and it's the one on the right side of my body and even if I take my pain meds it does nothing for that particular pain so I have been off pain meds for 2 days. I actually think it may be bruised tissue and not the incision itself that hurts.
  20. Anyone know if it would be ok to wear a compression top 3 days post op? I feel like walking around wouldn't hurt as much if I could wear a top that would keep my tummy in place and not moving as much.

    I imagine it's liquid Tylenol.

    Compression shirt 3 days out

I got mine at Wal-Mart. It's been a while that I've owned it, but I think it's this one http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Sweet-Nothings-Get-the-Skinny-Rib-Cotton-Shapewear-Tank-Style-83277/15728157 I wore it everyday prior to surgery to smooth things out so I looked better in my clothes.

    Compression shirt 3 days out

Thanks. I wore one on a daily basis before my surgery so I may go back to wearing it so that walking around doesn't pain my incisions so much.

Dang I would have gone straight to HR about your bosses. They are not allowed to say anything about it to anyone.
  25. Can't wait till I'm a size 14!
