  7. Hi Dr. Vuong,

I was hoping you could answer a question for me. Last week I was denied by my insurance company (Aetna) coverage for the lapband. Their reasoning was I didn't have proof of 2 years of severe obesity and no proof of a diet and exercise program supervised by my physician. I gave all that information to the Bariatric Coordinator at my surgeon's office and she says she faxed all that information to Aetna. Now how can they deny me and what should I do about it?

    Thank you,

    Kelly Bridgewater

    Whoever said patience is virtue...SHUTUP

They claim they don't have proof of me being obese for the last 2 years and that I didn't follow a 6 month diet and exercise program supervised by my physician. I gave all that paper work to the Bariatric Coordinator at my surgeon's office and she says she sent all that to my insurance company. My surgeon's office is just waiting for the official denial letter so they can get their lawyer involved since I have all the information the insurance requires. I just don't understand it all. I didn't want to spend another summer being this big. I am really frustrated to say the least!

Anyone seeing Dr. Ray in Bloomington?

I had my first consultation with Dr. Ray on 12/07. I had some personal issues so I didn't start my 6 month program with my PCP UNTIL 10/08. My PCP referred me to a registered dietician for 3 months. So I have paperwork from my PCP and my dietician. We documented my diet and exercise program for the 6 months. Ashlee, at Dr. Rays office, received my paperwork and said it looks good and has high hopes things will go thru smoothly. I sure hope so. I live about an hour away from Bloomington so I haven't attended the support groups. I also hope you get approved soon. Have a good day...

Anyone seeing Dr. Ray in Bloomington?

Hi, I'm going to Dr. Ray. We are just getting ready to send my paper work to the insurance for approval. If you don't mind me aking who is you insurance with? I am so scared my physician didn't put enough notes in my file. I also went to a registered dietician for 3 months. I have Aetna insurance.

    Your Aetna experience?

The Bariatric Coordinator at my surgeon's office insists I do the 6 month diet also. I was hoping to get by with the 3 month diet.

    Your Aetna experience?

I just started the 6 month weight loss with my doctor. I'll be done with that in July. I have documentation from my doctor stating I have a BMI 35+ for 5 years. I meet all the criteria that the insurance needs. The Bariatric Coordinator says they will deny me because I don't have a BMI of 40+ for the last 5 years. She said she'll submit all my paperwork to the insurance when I'm done with the supervised diet but she knows I'll be denied.

    Your Aetna experience?

I was wondering if I have any chance of getting approved with Aetna Choice POS II. My BMI hasn't been 40+ for 5 years. It's been 35+ with me also having hypertension. Right now my BMI is 41. The Bariatric Coordinator at my surgeon's office is almost positive I'll get denied because of this.
