Well done you! I know how excited you must be. Can't wait to see that 1 on my scale, even if it reads 199.9 I will still be ecstatic. Keep up the good work. -
Struggle to not drink while eating
DoneItForMe replied to irishgirl520's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being almost 6 months post op I still struggle with not drinking while eating. I have managed to limit it to a few sips but it's still difficult. We are having to break habits of a lifetime, It's going to take time but you will get there. -
Say one nice thing about lap bands

It helped me get my life back! -
I too am a stomach sleeper and only had to go about a week before I could sleep on my stomach again. I found sleeping on my side with a pillow next to my stomach really helped. Hope you are sleeping soundly again soon!

That's fantastic, well done you!

Someone FINALLY noticed my weight loss
DoneItForMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My WLS was just over 3 months ago and I have managed to loose 47 lbs, something I am very proud of! Apart from my immediate family, not one single person has commented on the change of my appearance and, to be honest, that was really starting to bother me. Was I so fat that loosing a whopping 47 lbs simply wasn't enough to show a change? Well someone did finally noticed, the owner of our local chinese restaurant. My husband and I would usually do a chinese take-a-way on saturday nights and since my surgery he has continued this tradition on his own. I think the owner of the restaurant was starting to wonder if we were still together because I was no longer coming in with him and he was constantly making excuses as to why. This past weekend I was the one to go in to pick up his order and was promptly greeted by the owner who's first words to me were "I am so happy to see you, you've lost weight and look fantastic". Music to my ears, the words I have been dying to hear! I know my appearance has changed, I certainly can see it in they way my clothes no longer fit. Why, as it would seem, do none of my work colleagues or acquaintances seem to notice? More importantly, why do I care? -
Recovery Time? Questions
DoneItForMe replied to Butterfly512's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Although I was extremely shocked by how well I felt after surgery, only minimal discomfort the first day, I was not allowed to lift anything over 10 lbs. for the first two weeks. The only issues I had was keeping my puppies who love to sit on my lap from stepping on my stomach, had to walk around the house with a pillow stuffed under a sweatshirt! Hopefully you too will have an easy recovery but more importantly just know that your life is going to change for the better. -
It's a journey, not a destination
DoneItForMe replied to gowalking's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well said. I have always believed how I feel is far more important than what appears on the scale and I feel fantastic. Congratulations on the birth of your grandson and for some reason I think you are going to be one rocking grandma!! -
I don't ever want to do THAT again!
DoneItForMe posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The one thing that I was warned about over and over (and told myself would never happen to me because I was going to be so careful) finally happened. I had my first and hopefully last stuck episode. I was out having lunch with a friend who knows nothing about my WLS and in a hurry to respond to something she had said I completely forgot about that golden rule of chew chew chew and swallowed a piece of meat almost whole. Pretty much the second I did it I knew I was in trouble. Apparently the look of panic on my face got the attention of not only my friend but pretty much half the restaurant waite staff as well. It wasn't enough that I was sweating terribly, in an incredible amount of pain and had no idea what to do but this all had to play out in front of a lot of people. Needless to say the projectile vomiting that soon began did nothing to lessen the amount of onlookers. Talk about embarrassing, I could not get out of there fast enough! I will talk to my doctor about this at my next appointment and not that I am planning to do this again anytime soon but what exactly are you supposed to do when you have a stuck episode? I now know all the wrong things to do like drinking Water to help the food go down only makes things worse, but what is the correct thing to do? -

Thanks for all the advice guys, certainly appreciate it! -
Hi Gabita. Try not to let the numbers on the scale get to you, I don't think they gown down fast enough for any of us! You did say you "feel smaller" and, to me, that is far more important than any scale reading. Keep up the good work, it is so worth it!

My surgery was Feb. 26 and I was completely surprised at how easy it was. Yeah, I was a little sore but nothing like I thought it would be. I would have to say the worst part of the entire experience was surviving the two week pre op liquid diet! You must be extremely excited for your surgery tomorrow, stay positive and know that your life is about to change for the better. I have not regretted my surgery one bit, especially after seeing the results on the scales during my weekly weigh ins.

Although I did have the Gas X strips, I found walking was a big help. Good luck with your surgery next week!

Uneven abdominal swelling
DoneItForMe replied to Drband14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 6 days post op and the area next to my belly button, where the port is, is swollen more so than anywhere else. I had my first followup this morning and they said everything looked great and that the port area was going to take the longest to heal. If you are in pain then I would certainly call your doctor. Good luck. -
Ugh I cheated and feel crappy!
DoneItForMe replied to JoieDeBanded's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So you cheated, your only human. Now that you've got that out of your system try not to dwell on it and get back on track. Trust me I know how you feel, I can not wait to get off these protein shakes and actually have something in my mouth I can chew! Try not to beat yourself up and focus on what's important. Good luck, you can do this. -
alwayssmiling, how did your surgery go? Hope you were like me and found it better than expected and that you are recuperating nicely.

Self pay with True Results question
DoneItForMe replied to Band Aid mom's topic in Insurance & Financing
Is that supposed to be for the anesthesiologist? If so, that's crazy. Although my rep couldn't give me an exact cost, he did say it would be a few hundred. I asked several times if the rate they quoted me would be all I have to pay ( plus the anesthesiologist) and was told each time there would be no additional charges. I received a $205 bill from the doctors office about a week after my first appointment. When I called to ask why when I was quoted a set price, they said I needed to speak with the folks at True Results to see if they are covering it. Now I am waiting for TR to get back with me, they said they needed to talk to their management about it. Like you and your daughters, I had my surgery at Turning Point San Antonio. If I get an additional $2500 bill I will not be happy. I sincerely hope this was just a mistake and your daughter doesn't have any hassles getting it fixed. -
Self pay with True Results question
DoneItForMe replied to Band Aid mom's topic in Insurance & Financing
I've gone through True Results in San Antonio and was told up front that the self pay rate did not include the anesthesiologist. I did ask roughly how much that would be but they couldn't tell me. Did you get a bill? -
After waiting for what seems like forever it's finally here and I am surprised at how much I am second guessing myself. I didn't sleep much last night, kept wondering if I am doing the right thing. At one point I thought if I back out now I could go to McDonalds and devour a Big Mac and some fries! As tempting as it was I'm glad I didn't. I am extremely nervous yet at the same time looking forward to new beginnings. Wish me luck.

Surgery Friday.
DoneItForMe replied to alwayssmiling's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck for Friday! -
My surgery is just two days away and I couldn't be happier to begin my new life. What I don't like is that I work with a bunch of extremely judgmental people and hate the fact that I feel I have to lie about why I am having surgery. With comments like "anyone that puts in the effort can loose weight and keep it off if they seriously want to" or, my personal favorite, "weight loss surgery is the lazy persons way out" who can blame me! I so want to tell them there is nothing "easy" about WLS and I am far from lazy, but that would just give me away. Hearing behind the back comments made about a previous co-worker who had WLS about 5 years ago was awful. I simply do not understand why people wouldn't be supportive in every way possible.

How exciting! If you are anything like me that date could not get here quick enough. My surgery is Feb. 26, just over a week yet it still seems so far away.
