Chrystee, you are doing amazing!!! I'm one of those folks getting close to goal, which for me is 190 lbs. This puts me lighter than I have been as an adult but still in the overweight category. Once I get there I will reevaluate and see if 160 is attainable for me. (My doctor's goal for me was 200 lbs and I am 12.8 lbs away from that). So I may be close to one goal, but am 62.8 lbs away from my secret goal for myself.

I'm four months post op as of today and had the realization that I am more critical of my body now that I am losing weight than I was at my heaviest. When does the brain catch up with the body? When did you start feeling content with your appearance?

My current weight is 227 and my goal is 215.

This will be my first challenge - I'm in. Thank you!

Weird Body Dysmorphia

I wish we could see ourselves as our friends see us. We'd never criticize a friend for a small gain or plateau. I wish we could be kinder to ourselves -
Weird Body Dysmorphia
Madmax68 replied to Madmax68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the replies. I took years to get to my former size and then I rarely looked in the mirror. If something fit, I bought it. Now that I am a L/XL everything fits and I don't know what looks good. I think this feeling is natural, but I hope it's not too long before I recognize and like my reflection -
Stressed About Giving Away Clothes that I've "Ingrown"
Madmax68 replied to Spooney's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a bunch of nice label clothes that I'd collected over the years that I was sad to give away, but I gave them to someone who needed them and she gave the leftovers to charity. Now I am making do with a few Old Navy purchases. It's funny, I used to have two closets full of clothes, not I have enough to last me a week. Made me rethink how much I really need. -
Sorry - I'm from Manitoba. But I did want to wish you well

Is my surgeon too easy-going and liberal?
Madmax68 replied to Sara51692's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At my three month appointment I was told I was getting too few calories (800-1000) and that I should increase it to 1200-1400 so that my body wouldn't think it was starving. I was scared to do it, but when I did the weight started dropping off. I do work out for a minimum of 5 hours per week, usually swimming, which does burn a lot of calories, so they took that into account too. -
female topic- cycle, emotional flare ups
Madmax68 replied to MissLiss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yes, I am usually an endlessly patient person, and I've noticed since surgery my emotions are much more volatile. I cry, get angry, but also much happier than I used to be pre-surgery. I believe it's the change in hormone levels. -
How many calories are you getting?
Madmax68 replied to Sara51692's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At my three month appointment my nutritionist told me to shoot for between 1200-1400 calories per day as I work out 5 days/week. Once I hit 1200, my weight started dropping more quickly. She told me my body was in starvation mode and needed the extra fuel. I am also supposed to get a minimum of 75 g of Protein but am closer to 90 per day. -
I had a hernia repair at the same time as surgery and have no GERD. But the hernia was news to me as I had no symptoms prior to surgery either. The surgeon tried to talk me into bypass as she believed I would have problems, but they haven't appeared.

Did anyone loose weight on their pre-op diet
Madmax68 replied to jabez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost 20 lbs in two weeks. I had nothing but 5 diabetic boost/day. -
Hi Sunny80! I was told that we store estrogen in our fat cells and am wondering if maybe when it's released into our systems we get PMS-like symptoms. I have days like that too. Fortunately it seems to go away as quickly as it appears. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I've briefly thought of having WLS for years, but never seriously until they started a program in my home province (I'm from Canada). The two options here are by-pass and VSG, with them leaning heavily towards by-pass. For a variety of health reasons I opted for the VSG and even though I have been a slow loser since surgery, I feel stronger and healthier every day. I now swim a minimum of 1.5 km (almost a mile) every morning, bought myself a bicycle and am signing up for yoga. It feels so good to be able to move again. I hope one day to be a fun grandma who can crawl around on the floor and be active with my grandchildren and this has been a huge step towards that goal.

I'm only six weeks out, but have been swimming for the past three weeks as I can't walk (need a hip replacement). I am so happy that swimming burns crazy calories - at my weight an hour of breaststroke burns almost 1,200 calories. I go 5 days per week. At the recommendation of my docs, I am going to add yoga to build strength in another six weeks. I've gone to one yoga class in the past but it was hot yoga and at my former 300 lb + weight, it nearly killed me (but I still thought it was fun). Looking forward to trying a beginner's yoga class I can handle.

Weight Loss Surgery right for me? Which one? Mental Illness Concerns
Madmax68 replied to Butterfly512's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi there - I have Bipolar II and was stable for two years before WLS (I had the VSG almost 6 weeks ago). I don't think I would have been ready for surgery if I had not had the healing I have with my current psychologist and psychiatrist. They were both very supportive of the surgery and wrote recommendations to that effect. That being said, I opted for the VSG to ensure that there would be no problems with absorption of my meds. I know weight loss might be slower, but value my mental health over anything else. Please discuss this with your healthcare team - I'm sure together, you will come up with the option that is best for you.
