Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Joann, I know that it must have seemed like this day would never come. But here it is! I know you will do great, and I'm holding you in my prayers. Check in when you feel up to it and let us know how you are. Hugs, Orea

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I only just noticed. I broke 80 pounds today! Wow. And that is a fraction less than 70 pounds gone in 2008. I'm kind of stunned. I really had no idea. That sounds like a lot, doesn't it. (I know, duh, it is a lot, but it sort of crept up on me. Crept down on me?) I guess my mind has been so much on getting to the 200's that I didn't do the other math. I lost 62 pounds or so on WW once, but this is definitely a new high score for me.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thank you! I'm actually amazingly calm, considering. I think I'm a little tighter from the stress, but that is the silver lining of this cloud, methinks. I'll take the weight loss and cherish it. I really am looking forward to being in the 200's. Wouldn't that be a dandy Christmas present!

Hi, I am belatedly checking in. Things are going okay here. My crazy hunger seems to have pretty much left. Finally!!! I am a little tighter, probably because of my husband's 60 day notice from his job, but really amazingly calm, considering. I'm starting to lose at a reasonable rate, but I am really working at it. Exercise, not so much, but I plan to start really soon. Some of my older clothes are starting to really hang on me. The difference didn't show much for the longest time, at least not to me. I need to pull out some of the smaller sized things I bought months ago, around the time I had my surgery, thinking I would need them soon (not!), and see if they fit yet. We had a pleasant Thanksgiving meal with friends. I did pretty well, and was amazed at the heaped plates everyone else had. How the mindset changes! It looked pretty disgusting to me. And the only real non-starchy vegetable there was the green bean dish (cooked in cider!) I brought. My friend cooked mountains of food for 6 adults, none of whom is at or near their ideal weight, shall we say... It was a bit uncomfortable for me because I love both halves of this couple dearly, and it pains me to see them unable to stop sniping at each other and criticizing each other. They are both wonderful, intelligent, talented people and I wish they would actively appreciate each other instead of focusing on what they don't like in their partners. As my favorite bumper sticker says, I wish they would "Hiss less, purr more." I can't wait to see the 200's!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Hi, just checking in. I think my raging hunger has finally abated. I'm starting to lose at a modest rate. I have a fill appointment next week and will discuss what to do. I think I could use a little more fluid, as my meals don't satisfy more than an hour or so. I'm loose enough that I can snack on raw vegetables between meals if needed without discomfort, and they really help. A green pepper can be quite satisfying.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

This is Boeing's approach to cost cutting: Get rid of the experienced people who are at the top of the pay scale. (Never mind that my husband has the productivity of at least three people. He's expensive so he has to go.) Stupid and short sighted. As DH observed, look what that approach did for Circuit City!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks, ladies, your support and prayers are very much appreciated. The best case scenario is that he gets a great job that starts right after they pay him his severance pay. I'm going to hold that thought for him. On the bright side, this tightened my up nicely. Maybe I'll drop a few pounds.

My husband come home today and told me he just got 60 days' notice. That tightened me up but good. Best case scenario, he finds a job that starts the day after they pay him off with the severance pay. That could make this blow turn into a blessing.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

My husband just received 60 days' notice from the place he has worked for 12 years. I'm trying not to panic.

Count your blessings. I am only down 10. And I don't get my next fill until early December. This really stinks. I lose the week after a fill, and then struggle for the rest of the month to hang onto it. I hope the madness ends soon.

It's stressful aand there definitely is a learning curve. I'm three and a half months out and still working on doing it better... But it does get easier and you find a new normal. Hang in there. :-)

    Question

There is the "clear liquid" diet and the "full liquid" diet. The full liquid diet can be defined as anything you could sip through a straw. But it is wise to start this cautiously and see what you can tolerate on any given day. I was nauseous for several days, so i wasn't pushing my full liquids by any means. The other important thing to remember is that we need to take tiny sips, spaced apart, and constantly be monitoring our pouch and our tummy to see if it's going down okay and not stretching us or doing anything uncomfortable. If necessary, thin your desired food before consuming it, and just an ounce or two at a time, max. I was really glad I didn't have to do Clear Liquids postop. (I think some docs just do it to kickstart the weight loss.)

Same here. It relates to the port.

    unsuccessful

It's perfectly normal not lo lose or to gain during this period. I have only just started really losing since my second fill last week. I was not a happy camper up until then, but I've dropped 7 pounds in 8 days! So...know it WILL come...and keep doing your best until then. Good luck!

    did i make a mistake

You can do this. It is really important to follow your instructions to the best of your ability. Tell yourself, "I can do anything for (fill in the amount of time)." Take it hour by hour or minute by minute if necessary, but decide to just do it. We made it through the tough times, so we know you can, too.
  24. Know that days 2 and 3 are usually the toughest ones. The meds from your procedure are wearing off. Keep taking those pain meds as long as you need them, and don't wait for them to wear off, they work better at keeping pain away than removing it once it is there. Know also that by days 4 and 5 I felt pretty darn good. Just a little longer... {{{gentle hugs}}}
