I haven't gotten on the scale yet since my fill on Thursday. I'm supposed to be on liquids still, but I am throwing in a few mushies like applesauce, and it is going down fine, but much slower!!!! Woohooo! I'm really going to have to pay attention now; my habits have suffered with the loss of restriction recently. How quickly we forget! Anyhow, I continue to be optimistic. This feels like a fill level that will work for me.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Yes, I am enjoying the memories, but it makes me miss my kids. I'm clearing out things from my daughter's old craft projects: an instruction sheet for making pompom unicorns and dragons, for example, and some googly eyes. In some ways, it is also the opposite. For example, I found two plastic squeaky pickles that I swear I've never seen before in my life!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

It's like a roller coaster. Hope arise, hopes get dashed as no one calls back. Some good things happened today. I told DH he has to keep dancing with all of these people, because if he doesn't no one will propose!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I saw Dr. Tran again today and got 1 cc. added. He expects me to be pretty tight, told me to do liquids for three days and even longer if I think I need to, and to come in tomorrow afternoon if I think I am too tight. So far all of the liquids are going down just fine, just a little slower, and I'm optimistically thinking that this may be the one. I promised Dr. Tran I would be careful, and I will. I know what is at stake. DH is still job hunting. We are still going through our 32 years of stuff and donating/tossing/ reorganizing/boxing in case of a move. I'm really ready for this to be over. And I am ready to start losing the weight ai put on this last six weeks and make some real progress for a change. I am viewing my bandiversary with dismay. I had hoped for and expected so much more in the first year. Oh, well. We deal with where we are and move onward.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Thanks for your insights on Cinci. I've only been there once for a day or two, so it helps. My brother lives there, but frankly he is pretty much a stranger to me. Maybe God wants us to finally get acquainted. ??? And thanks for all your good wishes and prayers. It means a lot.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Theresa, my condolences. It cn be a hard call, when is time to let them go. I don't see death as a bad thing, so I have tried to lean toward not letting them suffer too much. My vet said in one case, you'll know it's time when she stops eating. (I still tear up when I think of her, and it has been over six years.) We love and enjoy each of our 8 cats, but 8 is plenty and I wouldn't recommend any more than that, though we had 10 for a brief while. And the sad fact is, chances are we won't have 8 for too much longer. Sasha is 14or 15, Samoa and Mitzi are 12 or 13, Marissa is 9, Ginger is about 6, Magellan is 5, TK and Miss J are 4. My plan was, when I turned 50, to get my last cats, as they can live for 20 years. I hope to live past 70, but I don't want to burden my kids with my cats when I die. And I wanted a good sized crew to cushion the blow of losing them. Now, with Bruce being jobless, my worry has been about the cats more than about us. I'd hate to have any thing bad happen to them because we couldn't keep them for some reason. I don't think I could live with betraying their trust. So I pray for a job soon for their sake as much as my own.

Your thoughts and prayers are very much appreciated. Exciting possibilities here. DH is talking to two companies. One job would take us to northern CA, the other to the Cincinnati area. We have been in this house for 32 years, so we are determinedly sorting our mass of stuff. It's a huge job. The other question is, how do you get 8 cats across the country in the summer? Keep in mind they don't all like each other. I have two that don't mix with the others or with each other. Yikes! This week I go in for blood work for my surgeon, next week a badly needed fill.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I'm low on fluid still after my post appendectomy unfill and partial refill. I've gained weight from that and the stress of DH's layoff, and am anxious to take it back off and start making progress again. Finally we have something hopeful on the job front. DH is talking to a prospective employer about a job that would involve moving across the country. We have been in this house 32 years so you can imagine the amount of stuff that needs to be dealt with if we do move. On the bright side, this would finally get my husband to part with his 8 feet of vinyl record albums! (Can you say packrat?) And it would bring us closer to our daughter and my sister. He has a screening call from them tomorrow that should tell us a lot about if this is at all going to work for us. Any interest in him is heartening. It's been two months now he has been out of work. I wasn't an emotional eater until this. Visions of having to sell our house and what to do about the kitties have been haunting me. Then the unemployment checks didn't arrive, and that was scary because we were counting on them in our budget. Finally something was deposited yesterday! So I guess we won't have to ask our daughter for a loan. DS is finished with school, his second Bachelor's, and is about to move in with his GF and hopefully start a good job, as long as his clearance goes through. And there is no reason why it shouldn't. DH will be helping him move this weekend. I'm enjoying "kitchen sink" salads now that it is warm. I throw all kinds of chopped veggies and proteins in, never quite the same twice. :-) Cross your fingers!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I agree that you definitely need to get more fluids in. (Dehydration can tighten you, too.) While I am all for following your surgeon's instructions, only you can know what really works for you. Many of us find that we can drink right up to a few minutes before eating, and it doesn't affect our hunger or make the food slide through any faster. I prefer to do this and then possibly wait longer than my surgeon's suggested 30 min. after eating to resume sipping my liquids. This works better for me.

I'm still too loose with my 1.5 cc refill, so I'm working on cutting back on the carbs. I think the stress of hubby's unemployment is affecting me, too. It's a lot harder to stop eating, and frankly I'm not doing too well at it. It's getting better, though, after a few days of more careful choices. I want to lose what I gained and start making progress again!!!

I'm glad to hear it isn't one of those other things. I go in for a fill today. As you amy recall, I asked Dr. Tran to take some fluid out after my appendix surgery, to help me swallow those big antibiotic tablets. Once the swelling went down, I've been wide open and eating like a maniac. Partly because for a while there I was so nauseous that all I could stand to eat were things like Stouffer's mac & cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches, and pudding. (The antibiotics tightened my throat and made everything with flavor taste really strange. Even SF cherry Koolaid was too acidic for me to handle!) So, I don't know if he can or will try to put it all back in today or not. We shall see. I did what I needed to do, and I am determined to get back on track regardless. I have put on about ten pounds, but that is counting from a time when I was probably dehydrated and I had barely been able to eat for a week and a half. I was losing a pound or two a day for a week or so! That was the fun part. So it looks like we are pretty much at the same spot, trying to get bsck on track so we can finish the job. It is so worth doing! Let's get started!

I had 2cc removed after my surgery and I have been eating like a maniac. Back to sanity soon. I don't like how I feel and I don't like me when I lose control over my eating. The thing is, I have had to gradually reintroduce my veggies and high fiber foods after several weeks of bland eating. I get a refill on the 23rd. I am afraid to get on the scale!

That is a big disappointment, but really, you don't want a sick surgeon working on you for so many reasons!

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

I'm no specialist, but I would journal every bite to see if too much is getting through, and I would try changing my diet to mostly lean protein and produce. My body is extremely efficient at turning most "pure" carbs to fat. And maybe change up your exercise routine? Try some more aerobic stuff, or something that will build muscle. Good luck!

My roommate when I was banded, was a bypass patient who was in for removal of adhesions all over her abdomen. It runs in her family, and she has to have it done every couple of years. My band surgeon did her operation, too, and spent several hours cleaning her up. She felt great, except for bringing up the chicken soup her friend brought her, and left that afternoon or evening. We spent the time talking...about food and recipes! LOL BTW she was at her goal weight and looked terrific!

Katy, I'm so glad you made it through your surgery. Yes, we both had quite a time of it. I still have pain in the appendectomy area. I hope it goes away soon. On the bright side, I actually cooked today for the first time in about a month. Progress.

Kimaly, I was hoping you'd let people know. Thanks. Sorry to be absent so long, I had emergency surgery on March 13th for a ruptured appendix and the recovery has been long and slow. My band surgeon did the honors (he also does general surgery). He told me a lap appy usually takes him 20 minutes, mine took three hours to "dig it all out." Followed by massive amounts of antibiotics in and out of the hospital. With attendant side effects. No fun. I still have a rash I can't seem to get rid of. My PCP hasn't been much help, so I guess it's time to look for a dermatologist. I asked for and got a hefty unfill at my postop visit as I could barely eat. I still tire very easily and have to be careful not to overdo it. I haven't gotten on the scale for a while and I don't want to see what the number is. :-( But it needed to be done. I'll get a refill in another couple of weeks. I'm still trying to get my digestion and food intake back on track. For a while all I could stand to eat was mac and cheese and the like. Bland, soft, gentle foods. I overdid it with salad yesterday and am paying the price today.

Has anyone heard from Katydid?
