I had something similar and used gasx for a couple of weeks. That really helped.

It was my experience that the surgeon will tell you everything you need to gather for insurance. In my case, the letter came from my primary physican but the surgeon included it in the packet to the insurance company.

Ive got a surgery date but.........

I was the same as Susan and Photonut - the day couldn't come fast enough for me. It is natural to have some doubts and questions. One of the reasons that I opted for the band is because it is reversible, unlike the by-pass. So do keep that in mind -
Ouch, sorry you had that experience. All my fills have been in the dr office with no problems. JillN had some great advice, check on the numbing med or using the flurio again.

LOLOLOLOL - thanks, I needed a good laugh right about now! -
I feel like I haven't even been banded
juliek replied to EllenVick's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pretty normal, I had very little restriction until my first fill. Hang in there. -
Hmm, what I was told is that they don't want you to eat bread (or anything that expands with liquid) because it expands when wet and can get "stuck" more easily causing the dreaded "pb's". Also the high calorie, carbs thing is another reason to stay away. That said, I can't eat the pastry things, however, I can eat things like scones when taking very small bites.

WOW, don't you look amazing! I had about an 8 week plateau recently and while they are frustrating, they do eventually end. Keep up the great work!

Actually interesting question, not cheesy . I was close to 300 lbs when I met my husband, so definitely not at a good place physically, then proceeded to gain 55 lbs before I was banded. I met my husband doing community theater. We were both working on the same show. So, my advice would be to get out and do the things you enjoy doing, you never know who will be waiting for you right around the corner.

Donnab - we must have been posting at the same time - doing better now, thanks!

Hi everyone, thank you so much for your advice and good thoughts. Shortly after my last post, I started throwing up red blood, so I went right into the ER. Turns out I have a bad gastrointestinal bug and all the vomiting caused me to rupture a blood vessel in my esophogus. So, yes it was definitely blood, but on the positive side, not band related. I was dehydrated and they kept me in for quite a while giving me fluids and running tests. Home now, exhausted but better now that I know it is not my band. Dianamae, even with the scare, I wouldn't trade my band for anything!

Ok, thanks, I just called the dr and am waiting for a call back.

I definitely still have a problem with jeans, even ones that are loose. I love to wear them, too, though. I actually find that I have a harder time eating when wearing jeans.

Dealing with family during the holidays...*meep*!!!
juliek replied to stinaNYC's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Excellent decision. I told my whole family (and I have a huge one 10 brothers and sisters, aunts, uncles cousins, etc) and they couldn't have been more supported. It is funny really, because I was expecting a lot more grief, once they learned I didn't have the by-pass, everyone was 100% on board. Good luck! -
Excellent! Congrats!

I was so upset when Denny died after all that! I was literally on the edge of my seat and yelling at the kids to be quiet! What a show!
-
I bought and read it - loved it. I am a bit prejudiced about it though, cause my surgeon co-wrote it. It has a lot of good information about all the types of weight loss surgery that are available now.

What you are experiencing is perfectly normal. The first 4 to 6 weeks after being banded is about healing, not losing weight. I know it is frustrating, but once you get your first fill, you will start losing.
-
I have flown a couple of times since being banded and haven't noticed any problems at all with tightness. AND now I don't have to ask for an extension
-
I haven't been pregnant after being banded, however, I have discussed it with my dr. When you become pregnant, they would remove some of your fill so you can get enought nutrition for you and the baby. Can't answer your other questions, though, maybe someone else with more experience can. Good luck

I was in overnight. In fact, I was kinda surprised because they didn't even have me up to walk until the next day - but my surgery was kinda late in the day.
-
Excellent! Keep up the great work!

I would definitely say you need another small unfil. Also, I wouldn't suggest eating pasta - that is bad for the band because it can swell up and cause blockages.

Life-Time Fatties - Achieved Your Weight Loss Goals?
juliek replied to kim2bhealthy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi ya, I have been fat all my life - I weighed 30 lbs at 10 months old - huge baby! so I can definitely relate. While I have not yet reached my total weight loss goal, I have met my goal for my 1st year, 6 weeks early ! So I am very happy with my band. One of the things I discovered while doing testing for the surgery, was that my stomach emptied extremely fast so I never really felt full. People would say eat until you are full, then stop, well I never felt full :phanvan ! Anyway, the band has really helped with that! Eating healthy portions has made a huge difference. Good luck on your journey! -
