Why did I do this to myself?

I know you have probably heard that it will get better a million times, you also probably have it heard it from people who have not had complications or even the surgery itself, but please, please let me tell it to u one more time, IT WILL GET BETTER I PROMISE. You see I had gastric bypass 8 months ago with nothing but complications from day one. Since having the surgery I have had to endure 5 hospital stays, 4 endoscopys, and 3 surgeries. And I can now say that for 3 months so far, I am feeling wonderful, whole, complete, happy, and healthy. I had so many regrets in the beginning, I cried every single day, I was mad at myself for putting myself and my family through the torture that I was going through, but if that is what I had to go through to be able to feel and look the way I do today as I'm sitting here typing this, then I will gladly go through it all over again!! So please believe that it will get better and easier, just have faith and believe that it will happen. I hope this helps, if you want to know all that I went through just email me and I will gladly tell you everything, I didn't want to post it here cause I thought it would be too long and people might not be interested in my story. Take care.
  2. Yes I actually try to chew very well, but still get this stupid pain
  3. I am 19 weeks out from surgery. I have had some complications after the surgery and have been hospitalized 2 times. First I developed something called a beazor in my stomach which causes you to have stomach pains, vomiting, and not be able to eat anything without throwing up, so that was taken care of. A month after that, I still kept getting the stomach pains but this time not so much vomiting just a really strong pain in the middle of my stomach when ever I ate, so my doc decided to remove my gallbladder cause after running some tests, he found a few tiny stones. We thought that having the gallbladder removed would be the end to that, but a week after that surgery I began to have the same stomach pain as before, this time not so often, but never the less just as strong as before. He ran a couple more tests even an endoscopy, but the only things these tests have shown is that my white blood cell count is quite elevated which could indicate inflammation somewhere. So as of 3 or 4 weeks now every time I start to eat I immediately get a stomach ache right smack in the middle of my stomach. It doesn't matter what I eat, but as soon as I try and take that second or third forkful of food, it starts and I immediately have to stop eating. Mind you this does not happen when I eat Soup. I have not yet told my doc cause I guess I am trying to see if it will subside with time, and also because I don't want to sound to him like I'm crazy cause if the endoscopy and the other test showed that my stomach was fine, then I am scared that he may think it could all be in my head perhaps, I don't know. Has anyone had or has this or maybe something similar?

    Good bye, my love

OMG!!! Smoothazz when I read your post I almost fell out my chair!! you were describing me. You see I too had a "Love Affair" with the sausage egg mcmuffin, every morning on my way to work I would stop by the drive through and order not 1 but 2 of them, I would then park in the parking lot and proceed to remove the top part of the muffin always (I never ate both top and bottom muffin cause it was too much bread I thought)and every single bite I took of that sandwich I enjoyed. The first bite was like heaven in my mouth, that's how hooked I was on those little things. They would serve as my breakfast/lunch, after I ate them I was good till dinner. But like you, I had surgery this past January and as of two weeks ago I had not even been back to McDonalds, but two Saturdays ago my son had an early baseball game and he asked me to stop so he can get Breakfast so I did. Well as I was standing at the line ordering, some crazy notion came over me, I thought wow what would it feel like to eat one of those little pieces of heaven again, what harm could it do really especially since I have been good for almost 3 months now, needless to say I ordered one, this time I took off both muffins and ate only the egg, meat, and some of the cheese. Well to end this story, I have to tell you that I ate about 3 bites and I had to stop. Gone was the feeling of happiness I used to get when I would eat them, unlike you it did not make me sick but, I did not find it delish anymore, I had to end my Love Affair of so many years right then and there. Thank You so much for sharing your story, to me it's quite funny that we had this in common

    Sleeve or Bypass

I am or better said WAS a type 2 diabetic prior to having gastric bypass this past jan,2015. Everything I read and what my doctor advised me was right, having diabetes along with high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol, gastric bypass would be the better option. I am proud to say that I no longer take any medications for any of the things I mentioned. So talk to your doctor about this and he will probably advise the gastric bypass. Good Luck in what ever surgery you decide on. PS. did I mention that it feels wonderful not to be on any kinds of meds!!!
  7. I am 8 weeks post op, and I am curious to know how many calories is it normal to consume at this time.

    Abandoned Forum?

Hi there, there is also a website called "Thinner Times" that I also go on. It is similar to this one, maybe there you can find people going through similar situations as you. Please do not feel discouraged, have faith that everything will work in your favor, because you deserve to be happy, and healthy.

    Totally failed today :(

It must be something in the air !! cause yesterday was not a good day for me either. I am 4 weeks post op as of today, and I feel as though yesterday I didn't know what I wanted to eat, but at the same time I wanted everything in sight!! so I ended up eating like 200 calories over what I am supposed to eat. So don't feel bad you did nothing wrong, I think we all are going to go through very ruff times. Its just that we have to learn how to deal with these hard times cause they will come.

    Anyone in Raleigh Nc?

I go to Rex hospital, I had my surgery a month ago today with Dr. Bermudez. Dr. Tyner performed a different type of surgery on me 8 years ago at Wake Med. I really liked him, and in my opinion Wake Med hospital in Cary is a lot nicer, and cleaner than Rex is, now on the other hand, the staff at Rex is a lot nicer and friendlier. That was my experience.
  11. Thanks for the advise. I am willing to do anything in order not to feel this way.
  12. Wild Woman I was wondering, does the pain start in your shoulder blade and radiate down and then it happens again like a minute later almost like having a contraction? I ask because I am 3 weeks post op and sometimes when I eat this has started happening to me. In fact, it got so bad last week that I called my doc and he said to try magnesuium citrate since I had not really had a bowel movement, well that did not work so the next day I called him again cause I could not stand the pain and he told me to head on over to the ER where they ended up admitting me and ran a CT Scan and an XRay which neither tests showed anything. After spending a day 1/2 in the hospital hooked up to IV, I felt better I was even able to eat the food they gave me. But after coming home the pain began again after eating only 2 spoons of Soup. I really do not know what to make of it at this point. If you have found relief from this please let me know how you did so and maybe I can too

    Liver shrinking diet

For me this part of the journey was extremely hard. I was constantly hungry, and craving all kinds of foods. I had to do it for a week, and the first day of the diet started off good, but by around five pm that day, I gave in and had a sandwich from SubWay!! afterwards I felt very guilty, and disappointed with myself. For sure I thought there is no way that I will be able to commit to this if I cant even do this for a week. But after thinking long and hard about the ways that my life was about to change, I buckled up, and started to eat the things that the nutritionist assigned to me. The day of my surgery was this past January 28th, and everything came out great!! I am now 2 weeks post op. So please believe that you will be able to do this. Drink your shakes, and Water, and your broths and try and keep busy so that you don't think too much about your hunger. Good Luck, and know that you are going to be fine
  14. I am a foodie I love food!! I am exactly 2 weeks post op, and I think about food constantly, to the point where there is a part of me that does not know if this surgery will work for me in the long run. This really scares me, and I have decided to get counseling later on to see if it will help me. I just began my pureed diet, and the small things that I do eat do not sit well with me. This might be a good thing for me I don't know, but in my heart I know these thoughts will eventually taper off. So please be patient with yourself and know that you will be fine. Later on you will able to eat some of the foods you used to eat, and probably find that you don't even want them anymore (this is what a lot of people who have had this surgery say) hopefully this will also be the case for you and me. Take Care
  15. The best of luck tomorrow. I am exactly 2 weeks post op. The number one advise I can offer you is to get up and walk as soon as you are able to do so. It will help tremendously with gas pain, cause for surgery you know they fill your belly with gas. So with that being said, Good Luck, I wish you a speedy recovery
