Wow! Your Dr.'s are nice! My Dr. had me on only liquids, sugarfree at that and low calorie for 2 weeks. Then I was on liquids for 4 more weeks after that. No more than 2-3 meals a day. I think that helped no solids what so ever. I am 3 1/2 months out from banding and still on mushies. I can eat solids like moist fish, shrimp, pork, any meat other than fish has to be really cooked and soft and not dry at all. I have that first bite syndrome and sometimes I am on only liquids. Sometimes liquids, red wine and chocolate. :faint: Only when my esophagus won't let me eat, then I self medicate with a little chocolate. I have lost about 55 lbs. My calorie count is way under 1000 calories, more like 600 at the most.

You know it all depends on the child too. Some of the kids that may have chemical imbalance are going to get into trouble no matter if you dicipline them any way or not. My kids just happen to not ever do anything awfully bad. They did remember the spankings that I gave them when they were little very little light spanking with hand. Never use a belt. I worked for Family Outreach which is child abuse prevention and they do not ever recommend using anything but a hand if you feel like you just have to spank. These days I see parents not diciplining their children at all and those kids are headed for a miserable adulthood. I have a nephew (23 yr old) who throws temper tantrums and still knocks holes in the wall with fist and foot. Cusses mom out and walks past dad and smacks him open handed. I'm sorry, but that kid needs his ass kicked! His parents just walk around on egg shells and pay for his apt to keep him away from home. I just hope some day that he doesn't snap and kill them. They made him what he is from no dicipline at all.

That is one thing that I wish I had never done is spank my children. When my youngest turned 3 I stopped and just sent them to therir room and said, I will be up there in a minute to spank you. Then I would wait about 10 mins. They were so freaked out, there was no way I could spank them. I said, I won't this time but if you ever do that again, I will. That worked like a charm. Some kids are spanked so much that they can do anything because they know they are going to get it anyway. I don't believe in hard spanking maybe just a little swat with the hand on the behind. They grow up so fast. I remember my parents jumping up and spanking me and I was devastated then mom would come in and tell me it was because she loved me. What the heck! I thought how could you love someone if you hit them. I was young when I thought that.

Food has been such a part of my life for so long! I used to want to own a restaurant. tea room to be exact. Then when I got the band on, I mourned food. Probably for a month then it got easier to not care as much. Now, when I have that funky pressure in my chest, I stop and don't eat another bite. As long as you eat all of your supplements and drink the water you will be fine. Whatever you do, no matter how much you want to try to wash something down that feels stuck, don't do it! You will be fine. Follow the rules to the T! I still eat foods that are soft. I used to love vegetables that are crisp tender and now have to have them creamated. sniff I can not eat beef unless it is in a meatloaf type and ground 2-3 times until nice and fine. I was a hamburgerholic, yeah really! Bread is something I faintly remember. I believe that you can't do some things because you have this tiny pouch which is slow in digestion. Shots of alcohol is bad, any straight alcohol. I think that would hurt the tummy. Popcorn, I have been told that it is dangerous. I know a woman who eats it but hmmmm, hope she doesn't get hurt. No pain killers but Tylenol. My brother took aleve every day, even though I told him not to. Bleeding ulcer, had to have band removed. regained all the 150 pounds in about 2 months, developed graves disease. I told him not to eat that he would get some funky illnesses. Men can be so dumb. Good luck and write any time you like! yaya

Thank you! I have days when I can eat lots of food, though always soft foods. I have some days when I have trouble with liquids. Yes, I have learned that when there is that feeling, I better stop. Last night was so different though, I may have eaten too fast. After all of the fun with the slime and heaving and when the pressure got better I sat in the lounge chair and breathed deeply then felt a kind of whoosh in my stomach, maybe my Calcium chew blocked the hole. That is all I can think of and finally I got better. Today I had trouble eating liquid soup but after an hour it finally went down. I still can't eat any beef for some reason. Pork which is cooked in a stew or pork loin goes down just fine. Some chicken I stop at the first bite. I have thought about loading up on some baby foods. I love it that I have lost 57 pounds but it is kind of bittersweet. I had a lot of illness the first 2 months. Virus after virus. I don't think I can get anymore this year, I already have had them in 5 week period. Wish I would have found this site earlier. yaya

Could be coffee caffene withdrawl too. If you drink that. I went through coffee withdrawl once and had a headache for about 3 days. It will get better. yaya

Meghan, Most people don't have bad problems and therefore they won't be on this forum looking for answers. I have a few friends who have had lapband and RNY and haven't had any problems except eating too much. They tell me that I am lucky that I can't hardly eat. I think some people will have some problems but you may not have any. I do know that you do have to be really diciplined with this procedure. Good luck and stay on this forum to give the problem prone people help (when) you have great success. : ) yaya

I am new to this forum and was looking for anything about this problem that you all are having like I am. I too have trouble getting food to go down. 50% of the time it just stops at the first bite. I never know when this will happen. Sometimes I take a bite of food, even a small bite and it feels like my esophagus constricts closed tightly. It is an awful pressure, then sometimes if I try to eat more, the horrible pain comes and sometimes doesn't stop. I am not taking too big of bites and the food is always soft and totally chewed up. Last night I thought I was going to have to be rushed to the hospital. I lost mostly slime and then a tiny bit of the tiny bit of food I ate. Usually I walk around and do some nice deep breathing and that helps. Last night was bad! Oh, I hate to sound stupid but was does PB stand for? yaya

4 months into lapband and losing focus!
yaya78006 replied to babyblue71us's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new to this forum. Am looking for some answers to some problem myself and happened to see this thread. My lapband surgery was on August 16th this summer and I have lost 57 pounds. Mostly from not being able to eat food 50% of the time. I decided after having the surgery and going through all of the awful problems I have had that I will make the most of this and work hard at it. I decided that I will eat healthy and exercise. Even if it is just 10 mins a day. Anything is better than nothing. I said if I start going back to my old ways of eating because of being bored, or sad, depressed or nervous that I will go have counseling. I believe that there is a reason we are fat and getting that help is a good thing. They will build our self esteem and motivation. Get a buddy to converse with. Good luck with your weight loss. I know you all can do it.:clap2: yaya -
I think it depends on the individual. I could not tolerate any coffee for about 2 months. I did drink hot tea and loved it, it was very comforting to my tummy. I do drink coffee now and am loving it again. Some people develope acid reflux with the band and therefore shouldn't have acid type foods. Some juices are included. yaya
