SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015
whirlwen replied to Brigette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope all feb 9thers are healing well and quickly. I am on day 6 of mushies and food has never tasted so good! I'm down 22 lbs since my 1 day pre-op diet and am pretty darn excited with that. I'm exercising 30-45 minutes a day and outside of a lot of tiredness, am feeling great. Please post and update on how things are going for all of you! -

I'm sorry to hear that things didn't come together in time for you to get surgery in February, but March is only a few days away! I know how hard it is to wait once you make the decision to have surgery. You are a feb sleever in spirit, so please keep us updated on your progress! -

Heard that! I am now 15 days out and am on puréeds now. At the end of full liquids I was spending all my free time looking at recipes on Pinterest and drooling. I wouldn't recommend doing that--it's torture. I do have a whole new appreciation for the taste of food. I so enjoy my 1/4 cup of mushy food at every meal. Hang in there! You'll be there soon. I'm down 22 lbs from my 1 day pre-op and the 15 days since. Feeling great--walking 1+ miles a day or biking 5+ miles. Still a bit on the tired side, but it's getting better! Hope the rest of you fellow febbies are healing quickly as well! -

I'm taking bariatric advantage as well and they go down very easy ( at least for me). They aren't terribly expensive either, maybe $50 a month, which is a small portion of what I am saving on food! -
Forgot to log weight yesterday. Yesterday's weight 292.6 Goal weight 271

46 and wish I had done it 10 years ago! My children are following in my footsteps obesity-wise, unfortunately, and I would support them if they wanted to do surgery at 22!

Ive realized a few things after surgery
whirlwen replied to bfloguy82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have done the exact same thing and so far, so good. I do have to say, though, @@bfloguy82 that I am really sick of Protein shakes and have been tempted. Thanks for the warning! -
Congratulations! Sending you happy and healing thoughts!

@@BeautifullyCreated1982 good for you! As you can see from the variety of responses, you have to find the motivation that works for you. None of us are the same. This process is a journey, not a destination so if you head down the wrong road, turn around and try a different one. Progress, not perfection. Happy and healthy thoughts to you! -
Keeping weight loss surgery a secret
whirlwen replied to mandyboo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I actually posted a similar question a few days ago on here and the responses varied a lot! Some people are very open about it while others prefer to keep it private. I myself have only told a few people--my husband, children, parents and a couple co-workers who are struggling with their weight as well. I have decided if people ask, I will just tell them that I have been working hard on eating well and exercising. Do what you have to do to take care of yourself and don't let others bring you down--that's their issue, not yours. I have yet to speak to anyone who has had this surgery who has regretted it. -
SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015
whirlwen replied to Brigette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@GeminiSleever I would like to say it was strength, but really, I just knew what damage I could do if I tried to eat any solids at this point. I am TERRIFIED of the temptations that await me when I am on solids and don't have the medical restrictions I have right now. Food has filled so many holes in my life, so I totally understand what you are saying. It is like we are in mourning for a dear friend. I love the idea of having a small bite of favorites when the need arises. I truly think that may help keep the cravings from leading to an all-out binge. Stay strong! You can do this! -
Is there such thing as too much water?
whirlwen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 2/9 and have already lost the full feeling after drinking water. I could easily drink more than the allotted 2 oz every 15 minutes but am worried about stretching my pouch. I don't go in for my follow-up until 2/19 and don't want to call my surgeon with something so trivial. -
I'm all in! When do we start? This is my first challenge ????
-
Good for you for sticking with it! My surgeon only required a one day pre-op liquid diet and I didn't clarify with him if it was full or clear liquids, so I opted for clear to be on the safe side, I was worried that I would be dying of hunger and thirst the morning of surgery (it was scheduled for 12:30pm), but felt remarkably good. I don't know how I would have handled two weeks of it, though! Keep it up! You won't regret it!

SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015
whirlwen replied to Brigette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have regrets, but I have had some temptation. Being Valentine's Day yesterday, my son's girlfriend came over and made the most delicious smelling dinner for the family. Then my daughter made brownies. Then this morning they made pancakes. I say tempted, but not really because I know it would be completely stupid to have solids at this point, but the delicious smells were tantalizing. It was good practice for me to sit with them and eat my lime jello, focusing on conversation and not food. I know it will get harder when I move to solids, so I want to figure out some strategies for making healthy choices. Just know that there are lots of us taking this journey with you and we are here when the rest of the world doesn't understand what you are going through! Hope you enjoyed the time with your family and that the coming week will offer less temptation! -
@@amyecpa i agree that your surgeon is your best resource at this point. Your anxiety is totally understandable, but it's probably not helping your symptoms. I know it is easier said than done, but try to relax, breathe, and focus on taking care of yourself. Sending healing thoughts your way!

Cheated every day of 7 day pre op diet
whirlwen replied to BeautifullyCreated1982's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If it were so easy to "just do it" all of us would have lost the weight without surgery. Most of us also spend a lot of time beating ourselves up over our weight, so cut yourself some slack and treat yourself with kindness and empathy. I think it would be wise to talk to your NUT and/or a therapist about strategies to help you, but I wouldn't give up! Wishing you peace and success!!! -

My surgery is tomorrow and I'm freaking out!
whirlwen replied to marbelvsg's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Keep the faith! This is a huge lifestyle change so it is only natural that it bring up some intense emotions. The day of my surgery I was doubting my decision and almost had a full-fledged panic attack. But somewhere in the midst of it, I realized that the Universe brought me to this point for a reason. I have spent a lot of time meditating since then and have found that trusting the path has given me a lot more strength and courage. Happy and healing thoughts to you!!! -
SURGERY 9 FEBRUARY 2015
whirlwen replied to Brigette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. Seven days out and I'm feeling great! I'm tired, but I'm starting to get the hang (kind of) of hunger and fullness. I would love to go out walking, but I'm afraid of getting away from home and being too weak to make it back, so I spend a lot of time pacing the house. I haven't had problems with drinking anything, but find that certain smells make me very nauseous. Absolutely no regrets! Hope all of you are feeling the same! -

I had my sleeve on 2/9 and the morning of I got so nervous I considered canceling. But I am really glad I didn't. At seven days out, I have no pain, the gas is gone and other than being tired, I feel great. I know every person is different, but my experience was far better than I anticipated. The thing that helped me stay the course throughout the process was imagining what life would be like if I had the surgery and then what life would be like if I didn't. I couldn't bear the thought of spending any more of my life struggling with my weight. Think about what led you to this decision in the first place and trust that you know what is best, whichever way you decide to go. Wishing you peace and clarity in making your decision! -
how do you answer the questions from people who don't know you had wls?
whirlwen posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 days post-op and anticipating the questions that will arise when I return to real life. I told very few people that I was having wls and I know that a few weeks or months out, people will start noticing the weight loss and asking about it. I have also wondered how I can eat around my coworkers and friends without them noticing my drastically altered eating habits. I am curious how others have handled it. Right now I feel like I don't want to share this with many people, but I also think it will be difficult to keep private in the long term. -

whirlwen replied to whirlwen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I have spent so much of my life worrying about what other people think that the biggest challenge of this surgery may be learning to take care of myself and not worry about others. I'm a very private person as well and I have to give myself permission to put my needs before others' curiosity. -

Congratulations to all who had surgery this week and thanks for all the well wishes! I had mine on 2/9 with very little pain, but tons of gas! I have to burp with every sip and sometimes have to walk around between sips to get things to settle. I'm sorry to hear some of you are suffering from nausea and vomiting. Just try to breathe through it and remember this too shall pass. This is only a small part of what will become a healthier, happier life. Healing thoughts to all of you!
