How long before approval and surgery date?
Mel24 replied to Shilatte's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started in February and I had the main testing done then. It took me 2 weeks to get a psych consult (did it online), then I was able to do the official meet the surgeon meeting. After that March 10th, I assumed that I'd have to do the 3 mo weight management, but they were going to submit the application with my 4 yrs worth of weight watcher records. I got a call on March 25, saying I was approved! I was scheduled a couple days later for May 4th! I just did the pre-op seminar/class today. Less than 3 weeks!!! -
1 month from today we are going to be heading to the OR! I am so nervous, but so excited at the same time. I am visualizing myself this time next year and I look GOOD! We all will!! Let's get a list going of who's going in on May 4, so we can all support each other! Melissa

I am planning on ordering a bunch of samples of Nectars. Especially the Cappuccino, I love coffee. I think the fuzzy navel will be great during summer. I prefer having 25-30 g of Protein, so I might just do a little bigger scoop to get more bang for the buck. Muscle Milk RTD is God awful!!! I refuse to even try the powder. I like MRM's whey protein in dutch cocoa. It's delish.

May Sleevers...where are you?
Mel24 replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hey you...We have the same date. Congrats !!! Me too! 5/4!!! -
I was told about 10 days, but it depends on how you heal. Once they are sealed and are feeling OK, that's when my Dr. said I could gently walk in the pool or sit in the hot tub. But once I have surgery, then it could be totally different.

I am an avid spin class girl, and I'll go through 25-32 oz of Water in a 45 minute class. Granted this is a HIIT type interval class so it's level 4-5 heart rate. I am wondering how you get all the water in while exercising? Also can you eventually "gulp" water down again? I am going to be doing a 33 mile ride in August and I want to be able to keep hydrated since it's going to be 85-100 degrees outside. I have a camelback that I wear when I ride. Any info, support would be very helpful. My surgery is scheduled for May 4th and they told me if I am feeling good, they will clear me for all exercise 3 weeks post-op. That way I can keep training for the ride.

In my 4 years of weight watchers meetings, we have come to a conclusion (not scientific, lol). If you didn't see this week's work on the scale, you will see it the following week. You just have to stay the course. I know it's easy to flustered and frustrated, but just keep to it. 3 lb a week is amazing, I loved it when I had big weeks like that, because they are BIG!!! I will know more once I am on the other side in May. ????

Vomiting...but not until four mos out.
Mel24 replied to wicked_ash's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was thinking preggo too! It sound like how I was. I have emitophobia as well, I was thrilled when I had a name for it. I have Xanax for the panic attacks that come and zofran with me always. I am having sleeve surgery in 4 weeks, and this is what I am so nervous about. Have you tried ginger? There are supplements if you don't want flat ginger ale. Can you do pressure points on the inside of your wrists? That's what I did when I was pg, both times. Only puked 5 times with both boys. Ugh, I feel you. Hugs!! -

Anyone do outpatient surgery for VSG? How long were you in the hosp?

How do they do the leak test? Or so they do it while in the OR? My sister had hers done in TJ and was in for 2 nights. She had to do leak tests, had a drain, etc. just curious. Thanks! -
Thank you for the insight! I know to stay hydrated, but I never noticed if I gulp when I am dehydrated. I will pay attention to that over the next couple of weeks and see if I see a correlation to how much I drink during spin class.

I am in, it's my first, so I hope to do this correctly. My goal weight by Memorial Day is 269.

I had a hiatal hernia and GERD a long time ago, prior to having my my first boy (just turned 10) . I was on 2 (80mg) Protonix a day all the way until my 3rd trimester, then had to come off it. After I had Chandler, some how the pregnancy fixed my hernia. I don't know if all the pressure rearranged it. Anyway, I am getting sleeved on the 4th and we are prepped if the hernia is still there or not. She'll fix it if so.

This s what I have been told for myself.mi will know more on the 14th.

Thank you! I am trying to decide if I should tell my mom and sister. Sister had VSG done 9 weeks ago in TJ, and is trying to show how "bad" the diet is and that I won't be able to handle it. I think here is jealousy since my insurance is paying... Ugh.

May Sleevers...where are you?
Mel24 replied to bvenegas's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I began my journey on 2/20, and it looked like it would be a July surgery date to comply with a 3 month WL period. However they approved me (in 1 day) because I had been doing weight watchers and other things prior. I am all approved (as of 3/25) and they were booked out all of April. So I am ready to roll on 5/4! I have a pre op class that I need to do on 4/15 where they will give me all the post op info, prescriptions, and more pre op details. I do know that I just need to keep up on a lower carb/high Protein diet. I don't have to do liquids until the day before (So Saturday night will be my last meal before Monday's surgery). So I bumped up a couple months, and it's messed with me too.I am nervous, and I am keeping it quiet to my family. My sister had VSG done 9 weeks ago, and she's trying to talk me out of it. She doesn't think I can do it, and I won't tell them until I've finished the pre op class. My b-day is 4/24 so I am thinking dinner at the Melting Pot as a final indulgent meal. We have to stay in touch... DITTO! I am May 4 too! -
This is something I am worried about, and so is my husband. Especially since insurance will not cover any of it...

It took me a while to find something that I would like. I began Taekwondo when I was 1 year into my diet (2012), I loved it. I was getting a good cardio workout, self defense moves, more flexible. I felt strong, mentally! I earned my black belt June 2013, completing a 5 hr (over 2 days) test. I would suggest martial arts to anyone! I miss it terribly! After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, I quit and it took me about a year to find something to make me feel good again. I began RPM spin classes 3 times a week. I noticed how much more my heart health was, more when losing weight. I am able to recover from a level 5 heart rate so much faster than I could when I began. I think it is all about trying different things and having the courage to do something you never would have done. I was scared to do spin, the idea that instructors would be militant made me nervous. Turns out the instructors are not all like that. Give it a shot!

Picky Eater and almost borderline anorexic
Mel24 replied to Keyo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am a very picky eater and this is one thing that makes me extremely nervous for surgery. I am a carb lover, which is why I ended up so big. But I am a very picky veggie eater, so I have a hard time with that, since most of the ones I like are considered starchy...bummer. I was told to really cut the starches out, eat lean protein: chicken and fish (I am not a seafood person), Beans, & non starchy veggies. So I am having a real tough time with this. I am a pinterest girl, so I will do searches there to get ideas. And I have a bunch of things pinned that are OK to eat. I have a friend that is all Paleo and has found good things that are good substitutes. I totally get where you are at. I wish you lots of luck! -
I am the same date!!! I have my seminar on 4/15 to get all the post op info. Good luck!!!

I am so afraid of the gulping when I am thirsty. Especially when I am working out hard. Totally freaks me out. -
preop diet... constipation?
Mel24 replied to chaggard's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am doing 100 gm of Protein and I was/am so stopped up. I take target's version of colace stoof softener, to help. Nope... My surgeon told me to take a Fiber gummy to help with it. I don't think 5 gm of fiber is enough, so I am doing 2 doses of that to see if it will help. I will try and add more Water. Since I am not on liquid diet, I can see if more roughage will help too. I hope you all get relief! -
1500 cal diet pre surgery
Mel24 replied to mandyq1985's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Give it a few days to get used to it. I went from 2200 to 1800, then to 1500. When I went from 1800 to 1500, I found that it took a few days to NOT be starving. I tried to fill up on fruit, like apples and maybe cheese. It helped if I added a protein shake into the mix. I was told to hit 90-100 gm of protein, and if I did that, I was OK. Good luck!!!
