  1. So I have been speed walking three miles a day for the past few weeks. Today I decided to jog. It was not hard and I could do it just fine unlike before. HOWEVER my loose skin and the fat left in my stomach and thighs is bouncing so bad if feels like a weight pulling me down. Is there anything that you can recommend to stop this from happening?

    Thank you!

  2. I am months post op and I want rice like no ones business. But is that a good idea? I havent been watching carbs at all I have been focussing on my Water and Protein. When did you guys start eating rice again or Pasta?

I am not a pasta person and I have no interested in bread only rice.

I would love you input and if you still don't eat it say so! I do not want to go down the rabbit hole.

  3. I want to start off by saying THANK YOU EVERYONE!

This is what I needed to pull myself up and snap out of it. I have very supportive friends and family but sometimes hearing it from other people who know the struggle makes a huge difference. The support I have found on here is the best.

I did hear back from my doctor and he said not to change a thing and has me coming in monday to talk and I spoke to my counselor who is fitting me in next week to discuss my "struggles" which will also be good.

I also read the Embrace the Stall that was added by Inner Surfer Girl and got rid of my scale ( I made my husband hide it) so I think with the temptation to weight myself everyday a few times a day will help me too.

I am just going to focus on my Protein and portion sizes and let everything else go and work out daily. Maybe that will be the golden ticket!

No you should not be worried and do not cut more calories. Weight loss is not a straight, linear progression. It's full of stops, starts and backtracks. 1 lb is not a reason to change what you are doing. Speak with your counselor about any impending spiral and continue to follow your program.

I gain back a pound or two frequently. Hormones, that time of the month, retaining Water, eating too much salt... all of it can cause a temporary gain.

You should take monthly measurements so when you think you're in a stall, you can see it is probably your body actually losing fat and gaining muscle. Get a measuring tape and check your hips, waist, chest and arms/legs and then track them once a month along with your weight. A pound of fat is much larger than a pound of muscle and you'll not see the difference on the scale.< /p>

Stop weighing yourself so often and focus on how your clothes fit, on eating good things in reasonable portions, exercising at a healthy level and learning how to retrain your brain and body right now.

I too worry about my weight everyday and weigh everyday. The scale has not moved for 2-3 days, I start to panic, and right away blame myself for eating too much, too little, too much fat, too many carbs, you can drive yourself crazy. I keep thinking how can I be eating half or more then half of what I used to and not lose more weight. I was sleeved 8/3 and am down 24lbs, 39 with preop, and I feel it should be more. The doc and NUT say I am doing good, so I have to believe in them right now. I just tell myself, the doc did his part, and I am following the plan, and that's all that can be done right now. So many people on this forum say it will come, some slower then others, and I just have to believe in them too. Good luck.

Take care of your mental health, and the rest will follow. Like @@BLERDgirl said, this won't be the last time you see fluctuations on the scale. You need to get to a point where you understand they happen and it's just a normal part of the whole process without going into a panic. That will help you focus on the things you really need to focus on!

People stall. It is VERY VERY common. If you can find me one person on these forums who got to goal without stalling out multiple times along the way, I would be SHOCKED. And no, as stall is not just slow loss, a stall is NO loss or even a gain. It happens. Your body will adjust and re-adjust a million times throughout this journey and that's going to mean stalls and weird fluctuations on the scale. If you are getting your Protein, Water, and exercise, you are doing it right. Have faith in the process.

I feel your pain girl! But I do agree with the others. Please be sure to check in with your counselor / doctor about the depression. If you're noting the signs and symptoms of depression you need to see someone right away. Do you have someone who you can talk to? Do you have friends and family nearby? Sometimes we need to talk to someone to help us along. We all struggle so if you need someone to talk to I'm here.

Maybe it would be easier to equate it to the stock market. You don't go and sell off your entire portfolio because the market dips on a single day.

I have been tracking my weight daily since surgery and I've had many weeks where I stayed the same or gained a pound or so. Yet I don't freak because overall the trend is definitively downward, and that's what's most important in the long run.

  4. Okay so let me start off by saying I know 1 pound is not the end of the world and that it could be much worse and that I need to take a deep breath and calm down. BUT! I stopped losing for almost 2 weeks and then I got on the scale this morning and I have gained a pound back.

I am EXTREMELY insecure and depressed since my surgery. I have spoken to my doctor about this and he is aware and I am on meds and going to counseling. With that being said I need on advice on where to go from here. Should i cut some calories out exercise more?

I really focus on NO sugars and the less carbs the better. But I am starting to think I am doing something wrong. I do have a call into my doctor but I do think there is something to be said about people being in the same shoes. Since we have all had the surgery we all know to some degree what the other is going through.

Any help or advice is appreciated and welcomed. I am at the point now where I am starting to spiral a little bit and I want to snap myself back...

    Thank you!

  5. I am almost 3 weeks post-op.

I woke up this morning with terrible vertigo. I've never had vertigo in my life.

    Has anyone else had this?

I realize it could be totally unrelated to surgery.

I have vertigo all the time. I am two months post op I do as much fluids as I can and to eat 500 calories a day as instructed. However I have vertigo all the time.... The doctor says to drink more..... Its normal and annoying but if it makes you nervous then call the doctor.

  6. I have a 3 year old and a 15 month old! I was sleeved in July and they are both always after my shakes. My 3 year old thinks its chocolate milk and my baby just wants whatever mommy has! It is an adjustment but sooner or later they start to loose interest! It just takes a while!! There are pluses and negatives to having small kids and doing this.... Negative you are tired a LOT but the biggest positive is you have a little kid so you are ALWAYS moving! That will help a lot and it will keep you on track more so because you have less time to miss the old things! Just hydrate the further you get from surgery the more you need all your fluids!! That is the one thing I struggled with and I would get really lightheaded and even passed out once... (My husband was home so it was okay but still) Good luck!!

  7. At what point did you start eating spicy foods again? I am a spice person and I want hot sauce or something with a kid that in within that realm but I don't want to start too soon! Help please :)

    I think I started about 5 weeks.

You didn't have any problems? Do you have any suggestions for me on where to start? I am 3 weeks post of and on pureed foods and slowly starting soft foods.

  8. I do have a meal plan

I am calling my doctor tomorrow because the full liquids aren't keeping me from feeling hungry and I am getting light headed all the time even though I am getting all my fluids. I attempted pureed Soup tonight for dinner and it is the first time in a week that I feel okay and not light headed. I was just wondering if there are other options out there or is it the same thing for everyone set in stone type moment.

    My stages were:

    4 weeks full liquids

    4 weeks purees

    4 months soft foods

Each practice has their own rules. You should get detailed instructions for your plan from your dietician, bariatric nurse, or surgeon.

  9. I don't understand why your doctor would tell you not to worry about Protein until you reach week 4. This is contrary to everything everyone told me. Protein is vital to your recovery and your weight loss and can be taken in both clear liquid and full liquid forms. Maybe he/she just meant you shouldn't to try to eat solid protein? (Because of course, you shouldn't.) Or that it's ok if you don't hit your protein goal in the first few weeks? (Because many can't.)

I don't want to pass judgment on someone I've never met, but it sounds like your doc could use some lessons in communication. The weight goal thing was unfortunate, but this seems to be just plain wrong.

No they said point blank no Protein Shakes, no adding protein for flavor and no Isopure. I called my nutritionist and she said if that's what he said then she is saying one shake a day and that's it. And I agree I think I picked the wrong surgeon

  10. You should be getting in Protein everyday. You won't start getting it from actual "food" sources until week 4

Week 1 was clear liquids so I got protein from Isopure protein drink

Week 2 was full liquids so I got protein from Protein Shakes and Greek yogurt

Weeks 3 was purées so I got protein from protein shakes and mixed in unflavored protein powder into thinks like mashed potatoes.

Week 4 was soft foods so I got protein from things like eggs and soft chicken in addition to the sources noted above.

Week 5 I started regular foods so I got protein from meat and protein smoothies here and there. Protein oatmeal balls, Greek yogurt, protein oatmeal. Gotta get creative!

I agree, it is critical to reach your protein goal every day as soon as possible after surgery. As soon as I passed my leak test in the hospital they started giving me ProtiDiet liquid concentrates.

Even on the clear liquid stage, which it sounds like you have passed, you need to be working on getting in your protein.

For the full liquid phase it is easier because you have more sources: protein shakes, yogurt, etc.

I would definitely revisit your program materials and give your NUT a call if you have any questions.

Getting in enough protein helps with both healing and weight loss.

That is what I was taught but my doctor is tell me no no no wait until you are eating sold foods 4weeks from now. I called my nut 3 times today and still no call back....
