Waiting for insurance and over eating
AWD12368 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I have been doing really well the past few months with eating properly. But the past week has been awful. I submitted to insurance a week and a half ago and ever since all these doubts have been creeping in. Can I really get the Protein I need after surgery? Will I really be able to just eat small meals and not always feel hungry? Will I fail because I am having trouble now? Does anyone have recommendations or have similar struggle? I have already contacts a group for overeating and emotional eating which I will join next week for there next session. But I still just feel lost. -
Gastric Sleeve after a few yrs? Any serious issues?
AWD12368 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So I am summiting to insurance on May 20th once I finish up with all my requirements. This past week I met a women who is literally dying from her gastic bypass surgery. Now I realize that there are risks and everyone is different but I wanted to know how people are going 5-10 years after surgery. If anyone can let me know that would be great. I realize she is probably an isolated case but she had it in 2003 and she is in her mid 30s and they give her maybe to age 45 to live. She gets monthly blood transfusion, she had a hysterectomy, and now her kidneys are failing. She didn't have the sleeve but I guess I am just wondering. My doctor said that is a low percentage and I believe that. However, I still would like some feed back! Thanks! -
I don't know what to do! Help please

I went to the Doctors on Thursday to discuss my options and all that for the surgeries. I had decided months ago I wanted to do the lap band and my doctor said point blank. "I would never recommend doing that surgery to anyone, I think you would be better off doing the bypass. But I will do the lap band if you are sure." I was shocked but I had never considered the bypass and honestly I don't know much about it. I know the surgery basis of it but nothing else. What advice do you have and what was your experience with it the good and the bad please. I want to make the right choice and you can read all the do's and don'ts and the statistics but I think talking to people about there actual journey is better (for me). Thank you all so much! -

@@Cupcake He did tell me why and he had good reasons for it. There is just something about the bypass that scares me. I could talk myself into or out of it. I have just heard so many people say that it worked but then they gained it all back and it was a waste or they had saggy skin and it was so uncomfortable. Then there were more self conscious then before the surgery, however, I realize these are possible with ALL weight loss surgeries and it is something you need to prepare for. -
First class and totally shocked

@@chasingadream Thank you for response and I do think this is what is best for me it has taken me a long tim to get to the point where I needed to admit I need to change. Now I am ready and working hard to make the right choices and hopefully I can find the right fit with the band to help me get where I want to be. -
So I have been researching the lap Band surgery for months. I finally enrolled in the classes and setup and appointment with a surgeon. After my first class I was shocked to hear so many negative things about the lap band. The instructor said that there are so many being removed every year because it's not effective and people don't do well with it. The acid reflux with it is unbearable and this list goes on and on. Did anyone else have this issue with people saying its not worth the time or energy doing it? I choose this because I am looking for something that will work with my lifestyle that wont involve removing my stomach. I am just feeling extremely confused and over whelmed. Thank you for any advice

Funky_monkey800. I couldn't agree more there are a million horror stories and negative possibilities. I think what threw me was the “teacher” who you would think would be unbiased made her feelings very clear. So that just really struck me the wrong way. The class was for all 3 options and I did listen to everything about the sleeve and bypass. Like you I just don’t want anything removed and I like the shorter surgery time and recovery time. Maybe that is my problem I don’t know anyone who has had it done or have anyone to talk to about it, so that is why I joined here. I am already learning so much and I appreciate any and all feed back. Lawrence. I haven’t spoken to my M.D. as of yet. I need to make an appointment it order to learn more and become better versed on everything. I have not learned all the guidelines yet, but I have 5 more classes over the next few months and many appointments, so hopefully I will learn all the tools and then of course there is this site. Which Is already putting my mind as easy to know I am not alone and other people went through this and are willing to share. I have started doing Protein shakes, will the doctors recommend a specific kind? I started the 310 nutrition shake over the holidays. My nutritionist says its a good shake and she felt it had what I needed currently. I have heard about tons of people getting the band removed on here and that scares me, but like you said they might not be following all the guidelines. My fear is that in a year I will be in the same spot weight wise and so unhappy. CherieRyde. That does seem to be the pattern and the fact that I am hearing all these success stories it really does help. Thank you -

Tomi71. No, I would not consider the sleeve. I am not okay with removing part of stomach. Lawrence Thank you for your response. I have started making those changes already its really hard but its been a month without carbonated beverages and 2 weeks with no Pasta. I have not given up rice as of now. But I am in the very beginning stages so I do have time. I am extremely serious out loosing weight. I have to kids I need to think about and last year I lost my third grandparent to diabetes. Thats when it hit me, if I don't change what I am doing I won't be around to see my kids grow up so that is a great motivator. Have the people you know who have had it done already had any problems with reflux? Like beyond the normal post surgery issues? -
I have heard from a few people that the pain afterwards was bad they could not lay down or lift anything for weeks after surgery. I am wondering how accurate this is? I have had 2 c-sections and my gallbladder removed and had no problems with pain or recovery. Will that help me with this or no? Thank you for any information!
