  1. I am 3 weeks out tomorrow and had my nutritionist meeting today also. I had refried beans with no problems but had some cheese for supper and it went down easily. But now my belly is gurgling too. I think it's just going to take some time.

Concerned about calories.. 8 Days Post Op

If you are too nauseous to even drink, I would contact your surgeon to get some nausea meds...you need to be drinking. Can you try some warm broth? I found I could handle that a bit more easily than very cold things.
  3. I also had them for probably 10 days. My dr said it was from the stomach and esophagus being swollen..he said sometimes the swell inwards more than out wards and when you drink, they spasm. I am 18 days out with no pain, hope yours goes away quickly too.

    Ate too soon..

You are lucky you can eat anything at 10 days...I have to wait 21 days to even try an egg!
  5. Are you drinking a lot of broth? When I had it I noticed I didn't lose, but days I didn't drink it I do lose..I think it's the salt causing water retention.

    Soft Foods

There is a great website Theworldaccordingtoeggface.com. Mshe has great recipes, even by stage . My nutritionist recommended egg salad, tuna salad or canned chicken salad mixed with tiny bit if fat free mayo, or meats cooked in broth.

    Surgery 3-16-15 an starving

I read that you can become lactose intolerant after the surgery and this can cause diarrhea also...try switching to soy or almond milk for your protein drinks to see if that helps. Good luck

    So disappointed

I wonder if you switched to going very low carb you would see bigger results...my dr has us avoid all carbs for 2 months...I can only have proteins...no veggies, no fruit, no grains..after 2 months I can go to 50 carbs...and this is for ever.

    2 days post-op

I am 2 weeks today. First couple days hurt but each day afterward gets easier. I couldn't really drink either..felt like I woukd explode..but I didn't...just dont get dehydrated. Try your best to walk because this truly is what is going to make you feel better...I have 2 dogs so had no choice but to walk and in hindsight I am thankful I did. But even up til about day 8-9, every time I drank, whether it was Water, Protein drink, warm boullion, or crystal light my belly would spasm for a few seconds..but my dr assured me this was normal and just from the swelling still. It has passed, my incisions are healed, I've lost 19 pounds, I'm walking close to 3 miles a day, my clothes are getting looser, and best of all I can start yogurt and strained Soup today. It will get better for you...if you don't have nausea meds, call your dr. And hang in there, you just had major surgery..don't have regrets!

    questions about surgery

I had a catheter but was put in and removed while I was asleep...( this was my worry also, along with a drain, which if did not have) I wore hospital gown the whole time, with a second one as a robe when I got up to walk Normally no one allowed in recovery at my hospital but as I waited 4 hours in morning for surgery ( an emergency appendectomy bumped me) and there was no bed available in a room for me for another 5-6 hours, they allowed my husband 5 minutes to say hello as he was waiting that whole time...I told him just to go home at that point. I am almost 2 weeks post op and to tell you the truth, at this point it's kind of a blur

    Blurred vision when I stand

I know they took me off my blood pressure meds....right after surgery! But my 2 daughters have normally low blood pressure and they have to be careful when getting up fast...and make sure they drink LOTS during the day.

    What are your food stages?

Stage 1..first day...clear liquid..aka Water Stage 2 day 2-21 clear liquids under 10 calories and Protein drinks only Stage 3 week 3 soft puréed food..yogurt, strained cream soup made with milk, soft cheese Stage 4 weeks 4- one month...soft Proteins, lean meats...eggs, cheese, tuna, tender chicken, 90% hamburger Stage 5...week 8-life...can now add veggies and fruit slowly...2/3 of meal should be protein and veggie needs to be soft and non starchy...can eventually add 1/4 cup of complex carb starch such as brown rice, Pasta, sweet potatoe, etc My stages seem to be more "severe" than everyone else's and it sometimes disappoints me but I'm sure it's for a great reason...changing my eating habits!

    Surgery 3-16-15 an starving

I was sleeved on the 13 th and have head hunger too but do not give in to it! Drink your Protein drinks only! I have added extracts to give gem different flavors and notice that if I add additional scoop of protein to the drinks, they actually fill me up...try doing this. My dr also puts all of his patients on Zantac from day one...are you taking some kind of acid reducer? Remember those stomach nerves need time to heal before adding food...that dan mimic hunger too but it's not real...you are stronger than this!

[quote name="meggieo79" post="3789051" Meggio, I feel everything at umass was great! I didn't have dr Kelly but he spoke at one of the support meetings I went to. They set me up with dr perugini and I really liked him too. I had a six month wait because of my insurance requirements, but when I look back, I needed it to mentally ready for these changes. I had no problems with surgery...a little nausea for the first day but was up walking to the bathroom while in recovery, because I waited several hours for a bed on the floor. The nurses were great though everywhere I was. The have you drinking a Protein drink the next morning and I was discharged by 330 that afternoon. For a couple days, everytime I drank, whether it was Water or carnation instant Breakfast, I had spasms in my belly for 5-10 seconds, but when I called, dr perugini called me back within 20 mins...it was all normal and it actually was gone by a week out. My incisions healed up nicely and I have no complaints!! I go today for my fist follow up and really hope I can add yogurt and cream Soups...yummmmm.

    6 days post op

I am just 3 days ahead of you and spend my free time on Pinterest looking at different bariatric recipes...most look so yummy and they are making me head hungry...I'm hoping at my 2 week checkup that I can add yogurt and strained cream soups..then week after I can add eggs and cheese...oh how I can't wait. I am getting Water and Protein in..but I'm sick of drinking..I just want flavor and texture..but it's all worth it when I step on the scale. Have you tried sugar free Popsicles or sf Jello? chicken broth is pretty good too

Lol...pizza! I am also craving it...I am 10 days out and also feeling great..had a little nausea at beginning but only lasted a couple days. I have been on Protein drinks since the hospital and are very tired of them ...can't start real food until 3 weeks out . But I've been out walking dog since the day I got out of hosputal...shopping..cooking...doing housework...it's great watching the scale...and my tight jeans aren't as tight haha
  20. I take prescription NSAIDs for my arthritis and surgeon said it was fine...he said people who need to take long term meds without worrying about absorption like the rny should go the sleeve.
  21. I didn't have a hernia repair but I also had that..I called my dr who said it should get better..it actually hurt to drink...but I am 9 days out now and feel so much better..am able to drink, get my protein, take my vitamins, etc...only thing that still hurts though is the calcium chews. I am doing housework, walking the dogs a few times a day, shopping, etc

    Excited Yet Nervous

I have 6 incisions...3 on the lower belly as like maybe 1/8-1/4 inch..tiny..under my bra line as 3 more. Largest one on the left where my belly was taken out..maybe 2 inches long...when I left hosputal, they were bandaged and I couldn't see them at all...told to remove the bandaged in a couple says and that under that was sterie strips and those would fall off on their own. They did, at about day 6-7. There is no care to be done, just let dr know if they start oozing, etc...they have dissolvable sutures and glue over that..they don't really bother me other than itchy sometimes..I know from my other surgeries, they will fade in a couple years to mostly I almost invisible scars.

    Anxiety

I was supposed to be sleeved at 730 but an emergency appendectomy came before me...so I was laying on a bed in the holding area...( it was a long time before the finally hold me why I was just waiting even all the other people had gone and two hours later more were coming in!) so tbe anesthesiologist came in and gave me something to relax me..even asked me a while later if I wanted more...so they will definitely take care of you if you need it...just let them know when you are there.

    Getting Cold Feet?

You sound like me 9 days ago...I was nervous, anxious, second guessing my decision, wondering how bad I was going yo miss good, etc Let me just say it's been alotveasier than I anticipated...I don't really have any pain..only used pain relievers for 3-4 days...I am getting more and more Water and Protein in each day ( was a little tough first couple of days) was walking my dogs the day after I got home. I am soooo ready to eat some real food though..but my drs plan is not for 3 weeks. I am planning different things I'll try...Eggs or refried Beans..lol But I think I over did it today...I shoveled..yes I am from northeast like you, did laundry, went shopping, walked dogs, baked brownies for my teen son and his track friends...now my left side hurts...I guess it's a sign to do a ewe bit less. But I have already lost about 11-12#s and I am thrilled..my bmi was 34.5 when I went to surgery so didn't expect it to drop that fast the first week...makes this worth it!
  25. To drink my protein, not tendering..grrr autocorrect
