    New Sleever Intro

I have been reading the injury reviews here too. I know my nutritionist has samples so I might ask to try some before I commit to ordering. I really just need to get my Protein up. Stalk away, Vicki!! I will definitely be giving surgery updates.
  2. Hi! I finally figured out how to start a thread of my own. I just wanted to post a little introduction of myself. I was a pretty average sized child. Around the start of my puberty years is when my relationship with food changed. I had a bit of a tumultuous home life and the only thing I had control over was what and how much I ate. After a while I became a "foodie", not just enjoying the taste of food but the culture of chef life and cooking competitions. It never really bothered me to be overweight until I went to the doctor for a routine physical and tipped the scales at 297. I decided then and there that I was done being a fat girl. I had a consultation with Dr. Medvetz at Lourdes Medical Center and she was absolutely amazing. I started the journey toward getting sleeved and it's been a long one. I think hardest of all was learning to appreciate the artistry of cooking without needing to consume the product of it. I'm having my surgery on February 9th and I'm both nervous and excited. I cannot wait to change my life, especially since I will be starting nursing school in the fall. This pre-op liquid diet is killing me though!! So far I have lost about 15lbs but it hasn't come without suffering. I don't feel hungry exactly, but weak and dizzy are a more accurate description. The shakes are hard to digest. Hoping the next four days fly by! I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing our journeys.

Thanks for the suggestion Mike. I will be looking out for those. I'm using bariatric advantage. I think my taste buds have changed, or maybe I'm just over them, but they are suddenly disgusting to me.

Thanks Vicki! I'm drinking Bariatric Advantage chocolate flavored. My nutritionist suggested that I try some protein shakes while I was going through the clearances and BA seemed to be the least foul tasting. I would put it in the blender with have a banana and 10oz of water, freeze for twenty minutes, and enjoy. And now I suddenly can't stomach the stuff. I bought unflavored whey protein to mix into my food once I hit the outer stage, but for now I am eating nothing Bc all of my "options" pretty much sicken me. Today my meal was one pickle. I'm trying to at least drink water and unflavored tea to compensate.

Thank you B, I absolutely will be giving continued updates! I'm so happy to have found this community of others having similar experiences. There are very few people in my life I can't relate to on this. And all of my friends are thin so they don't know what it's like to struggle with weight, and struggle with confidence as a result.

    February

February 9th and I'm in South Jersey
  12. I've heard horror stories about people losing too much weight and being denied by insurance because they've demonstrated weight loss success without medical intervention. I've also heard of people intentionally gaining weight just to qualify. It's tough to know how insurance companies will respond in certain situations. I hope it all goes well for you. I'd definitely contact my doctor to find out what weight they will be submitting for you.

What activities are you looking forward to doing?

First and foremost I look forward to climbing a flight of stairs and not spending the next five minutes trying to catch my breath. I would also love to ride a bike again. And learn to swim. I haven't been in a pool in many years because I was too ashamed to be seen in a bathing suit.

Thank you seahawksfan! I'm finding it very hard to focus my thoughts at work with the lightheadedness.
  15. Congrats on your pre-op success. I'm scheduled for February 9th and I'm both excited and anxious. This will be the first surgery I've ever had and my first ever stay in a hospital. I can't wait to start seeing results, though. Good luck to all!

    What's in your hospital bag?

Wow I appreciate this thread! I'm getting sleeved on Monday and I haven't been sure of what to pack. I was told to bring pajamas, a robe, my cpap, and a pillow for my stomach. I don't think I'll need the pillow, as the hospital is only down the road from my home. I also plan to bring my laptop with DVDs and my iPhone, for entertainment and communication purposes.

    Success Photos!

You look beautiful. And I agree with the poster who said you now look much younger. Thanks for the THINspiration. I've been a little depressed with the liquid diet but seeing what I'm working toward will help me stay on target.

????A shout to the February sleevers ????

Hello, I'm new to this forum so I'm not quite sure how to navigate yet. Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong area. My surgery is scheduled for February 9th, a gastric sleeve. I'm currently struggling with the pre-op diet. I was instructed to drink three protein shakes a day and clear broth. I'm allowed to have sugar free jello and Popsicles and unlimited raw veggies (unflavored). The shake Im using (bariatric advantage) is cloyingly sweet and I am having a hard time drinking it even once a day, let alone three. Adding decaf instant coffee helps a little, but not enough to combat the nausea I feel while drinking it and for sometime after. The clear low sodium broth was also hard to tolerate. I "cheated" a couple of times and ate progreso 99% fat free vegetable soups for dinner. On the days that I didn't have that soup for dinner, I just had a sugar free jello snack cup. Meal times have become so miserable for me that I find myself skipping them altogether. I'm averaging (at most) 320 calories a day. I'm losing 1-2lbs a day, which has been great, but I am worried that I'm not getting enough protein and nutrients to maintain a healthy body. I would love to hear how others are surviving their diets.
