When did you feel "not sick" post op?

Your story is encouraging. Thanks for sharing. I have a chemistry exam and a lab scheduled for Monday. Part of me considered putting this semester off until summer due to the surgery but I had heard of so many others feeling great right away that I decided it was worth the risk. With the constant dry heaving im almost regretting it.

When did you feel "not sick" post op?

This was my very first surgery too. I just don't want to be bedridden. I was hoping to return to school on Monday.

When did you feel "not sick" post op?

Thank you. I keep seeing and hearing all of these stories of people feeling great after just a couple of days. That feels miles away for me.
  4. I woke up not even knowing I'd been taken to surgery! The nurse gave me medicine to "relax" me while I was in the waiting area. The next thing I knew she was waking me up asking me my pain level. I won't even pretend, the first few hours were awful. It took a little while for me to receive enough pain meds and I felt a heaviness as if someone were sitting on my stomach and chest. I slept a lot, too. By midnight I was feeling just fine. Currently experiencing no pain and zero sleepiness. I haven't yet felt any hunger, either. Complications: my blood pressure went through the roof as a result of the medications I was given. I've also been experiencing some pretty severe tachycardia. During the surgery they discovered an abscess on my tonsils, so I likely will be having surgery to remove that today. But all of those are minor in relation to how amazing I feel. I hope all of my Feb 9th Sleever buddies had good experiences as well.

    Got my sleeve yesterday 2/9/15

No I don't think so. So glad you're doing well! If I could just get past this gas pain I'd be perfect. I need to buy gas ex on my way home today.
  8. I was Sleeved yesterday and this morning I felt great! But this afternoon, after being taken off of IV meds, I started having excruciating abdominal pain and nasal congestion. I feel like such a baby because the nurse saw me crying, but I totally lost control. The liquid Lortab is helping a little, but too much movement starts up the pain agin. Please tell me it gets better.

One day post op sudden pain

I'm so sorry you're having such a tough time time. My surgeon came to pay me a visit and reassure me that the day after is the worst it will get and that tomorrow I will feel great. She also said that I need to try and pass gas to get the pain to go away.

    Pre-Op Diet?

I'm on the last day of my pre-op diet now. It's three protein shakes a day, broth, sugar free jello, sugar free Popsicles, and unlimited raw veggies.

I think the YouTube videos are a great idea! I want to start photo journaling my progress. So far people have been commenting on their notice of my weight loss (about 30lbs since my first consultation 15 of which is from the preop diet) but I don't notice it. Maybe if I can show others the consist progression of weight loss and healthy living, they will see that bariatric surgery isn't the easy way out. It's the decision to change your lifestyle. They may even be inspired to have their own surgeries.

My mom and uncle said that to me just last night! "You're losing weight now without the surgery. Why don't you just diet and exercise instead of relying on surgery to help you lose. Also, when I explained that I want to lose weight to feel good about myself they said that I will still have a miserable self-image when I'm smaller. Really disheartening to hear 48 hours before surgery.

  24. Hi! I finally figured out how to start a thread of my own. I just wanted to post a little introduction of myself. I was a pretty average sized child. Around the start of my puberty years is when my relationship with food changed. I had a bit of a tumultuous home life and the only thing I had control over was what and how much I ate. After a while I became a "foodie", not just enjoying the taste of food but the culture of chef life and cooking competitions. It never really bothered me to be overweight until I went to the doctor for a routine physical and tipped the scales at 297. I decided then and there that I was done being a fat girl. I had a consultation with Dr. Medvetz at Lourdes Medical Center and she was absolutely amazing. I started the journey toward getting sleeved and it's been a long one. I think hardest of all was learning to appreciate the artistry of cooking without needing to consume the product of it. I'm having my surgery on February 9th and I'm both nervous and excited. I cannot wait to change my life, especially since I will be starting nursing school in the fall. This pre-op liquid diet is killing me though!! So far I have lost about 15lbs but it hasn't come without suffering. I don't feel hungry exactly, but weak and dizzy are a more accurate description. The shakes are hard to digest. Hoping the next four days fly by! I look forward to getting to know you all and sharing our journeys.

    New Sleever Intro

Thank you wantingabetterlife! A huge part of the reason I wanted this surgery is so that I'll have the stamina to get through an accelerated BSN program. Congratulations on your weight loss success!!!
