    Sweet things

Sugar free/FF pudding, SF Jello or for a Protein boost take part skim ricotta, add a couple tsps of sweetener, a TBSP of unsweetened cocoa and a splash of vanilla. It is yummy and helps with chocolate cravings. Yogurts are good and so is cottage cheese with some SF jam mixed in.

    food stuck in throat?

I'm just starting on soft foods and that is my indicator that I'm literally stuffed. Usually that happens around the 2-3 oz mark of whatever I'm eating.
  3. Not sure what happened we are only 2 weeks out.
  4. @@brandnewme2015 That sounds good! I will have to try to add meatballs. I had salmon today and that was very good. I ate about 2 oz and a few steamed yellow squash pieces. @@x0CheekzVSG Where are you? How are you? I know you were struggling getting protein and water in last week. Good luck to all of you! I was an April 1st DS, so tomorrow is two weeks! Wishing everyone an uncomplicated surgery and speedy recovery!

    Possible sleep apnea?

I finally went for a sleep study about a year ago because I was always tired, I never felt rested no matter how much sleep I got. My sleep study determined I had severe apnea. I would stop breathing on average 81 times/hour. This is a severe strain on the heart. I had my DS on April 1st and will need to possibly go back for another fitting or possibly an overnight. As uou lose weight you don't require as much pressure from the cpap. I have lost over 30 lbs already so I will need an adjustment. Please do not put off a sleep study if you suspect apnea it really is a very dangerous affliction.
  8. Hi there, tomorrow is two weeks already! I made a very yummy and protein packed (48g) smoothie this morning. It made a full shaker cup so it took a while to drink, but it was also fluffy so not heavy to drink. I have a nutribullet but a regular blender should be fine too. 1/2 frozen banana 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries (I used raspberries, blackberries and blueberries) 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt (I used Fage) 1 scoop protein powder (I used an unflavored GNC brand) 1 1/4 cup skim milk 2 packets Splenda Blend, blend, blend till smoothie consistency. I really enjoyed it because it wasn't overly sweet or as heavy as the protein shakes. I will likely do it again with frozen strawberries and banana. Maybe add a little vanilla extract or use vanilla flavored protein. What are some of your favorite things right now?
  9. Please be careful, I don't want to sound like your mom, but solids especially bread is pushing your pouch. Remember the phases aren't just about comfort and what stays down but allowing your pouch to heal. Solids can stretch your pouch and pull at your staples. The last thing you want is a leak. I was also told until swelling reduces foods can get "stuck" in the healing areas and abscess. Please, please don't hurt yourself, not to keep a secret that you are doing something to change your life for the better. Okay, I'm done lecturing. Hugs, be strong and above all else take care of your self.
  10. Happy Saturday everyone. I woke up feeling badly today. I can't put my finger on it but just run down and tired almost like a flu but no fever or aches. I started feeling a bit better later morning but not super. I did manage to get down two premier Protein shakes today and about 20oz of Water so far (and a little soup). I got really nauseated around 6:00 tonight (about an hour after my last shake) it passed in about 25 minutes but I was miserable during the episode. Then all of a sudden around 7:30 I felt great and hungry so I decided to give the ricotta bake a try. It looked so good, it tasted like food. My first couple bites were likely too big and it just sat and sat in what felt like my esophagus. I waited about five minutes and tried taking small bites and chewing them into oblivion but after about 4-5 more bites I felt full. I think I had the equivalent of 2 TBSP of food. I think with the mozzarella it is just a bit too dense still. But let me tell you head hunger folks is real! It tasted so good and smelled so good I had to walk away to keep from eating another bite. I may warm a little more up in about 30 minutes (so an hour and half from my first sitting) if I'm actually hungry. I am going to refrigerate the rest. It makes four servings but when you only eat less than 1/8 of a cup...heck I have two weeks worth. I hope everyone is having a nice weekend. I will be venturing to my in-laws tomorrow for a late Easter dinner (they were on a cruise) and want to do Easter with the grand babies. I will be bringing soup and a shake!
  11. I had an a GREAT day! Protein shake went down easy this morning and I made a Shakeology shake with frozen berries and almond milk for lunch and I was able to finish it in one sitting! What the wha? I also drank about 24 oz of Water. Dinner was egg drop Soup, but man I miss the crunchy noodles! Oh and the staples are out! Yippe! I'm hoping tomorrow is as good as today for everyone! And I had to go look up that ricotta bake...OMG, that makes my mouth water. I'm still on full liquid with pureed fruit like apple sauce. I can start working in soft foods mid-end of next week. I think that and scrambled eggs are on the the top of my list...oh and crab legs...I've been dreaming about crab legs! (what does that mean?) Weekly weigh in: SW 302 CW 286 Total: 16lbs since surgery
  12. @@brandnewme2015 @@CrissyBat Today was much better. I took a long nap this afternoon which I guess I really needed. I managed 1 whole premier Protein shake and a half of another brand. about 1/2 cup of the broth from chick fil a Soup, 20oz of Water and a SF popcicle! My post op is tomorrow, so I'm hoping there is all good news!
  13. @@CrissyBat I was right there with you yesterday! Everything I put in my mouth either hurt or made me nauseated. I don't start my Vitamins until after I'm cleared at my post op (which is tomorrow). I'm looking forward to getting these staples removed! My biggest problem is sleeping! I'm a side/stomach sleeper normally. But it is too uncomfortable still, it feels like the sutures and my insides are being pulled around. I have a wedge pillow that I've been sleeping on that keeps me from being flat but the past couple days it has put pressure on my lower back making it painful after a few hours. I think I still have my pregnancy pillow stashed in a closet so I may try that, otherwise it's the recliner for me. I know everyday is a challenge but each day I know I'm healing it it will get better. Time to push the Protein today! Have an awesome day everyone!
  14. scales are evil lol ^^^ What she said! You are likely retaining fluids. Try to drink more Water. I know all liquids count toward the 64oz day but water is still important. Try squeezing some lemon, lime or orange in it to break the surface tension. @@brandnewme2015 yay for no drain! I had mine removed before I left the hospital but it is a bit disconcerting seeing a hole in your side as it heals. I think I am finding out I'm lactose intolerant. Every time I try something that has milk the gas pain is unreal. Yesterday, I mixed up some cream of wheat and thinned it will lots of milk. Just a few bites in and holy ouch. So I decided to have a premier Protein shake, two sips and yikes. Today I tried cottage cheese and it rendered me out of commission with pain from the middle of my back around my chest. I think I will stay clear of dairy for a bit.

You won't be disappointed with the hospital staff. They were top notch. I had both my babies (C-section) at Winnie Palmer and thought the care was great, but the staff on bariatric surgery floor at ORMC were phenomenal! I came home on Saturday and it's been a game since starting full liquids what sits best with me. I also believe I may be lactose intolerant because I've tried a Protein shake with dairy and a 1/4 cup cottage cheese and the gas/indigestion was terribly painful. Which really bites because I LOVE milk and cheese. I figure I will give dairy a break for a few more days and try again. Is Dr. Jawad or Dr. T your surgeon? Which procedure are you having?
  16. I'm so sorry to hear you're having a rough start. I found warm herbal tea was pleasant and tolerable as was Jello. It was much easier for me than sipping plain water. It does get better and just remember listen to your body. If you are tired get rest. If you are feeling full don't push. Try sipping one ounce of water every 10-15 minutes (add a squeeze of lemon to it). Oh and Gas-x strips help too if you start feeling bloated. Check-in as you can. Sending well wished your way.
  17. I can't wait for tomorrow so I can start having yogurt and shakes. I've been a bit light headed this evening so I'm thinking about opening a bottle of Isopure since it is a clear liquid to get a little Protein in. I manged 24 oz of Water today and a quarter cup of Jello. It was a lovely night cooler and breezy evening so I walked around the block. I should've worn my pedometer. My sister and her husband came over and cooked ham, au gratin potatoes and green Beans for Easter dinner. Everything looked and smelled so good. I sat with everyone and talked as I don't want to isolate myself. I sipped my water and ate my jello. I really haven't had much pain, except for the tenderness of the incision sites and very little nausea today. Still some pain when sipping water, but that seems to be improving. I hope everyone had a great Easter!
  18. Please share that recipe (I have one more day on CL but I will be ready on Monday)! I got my drain out today and was discharged early afternoon. But I'm finding it harder to get comfortable at home. Coming home feels like I lost my safety net. I don't have a call light if I feel nauseated or pain. Not getting the IV fluids so really needing to force myself to drink. Small sips still hurt occasionally. How much liquid on average is everyone up to right now?
  19. Hey all sorry I hadn't checked in, I'm finally beginning to feel much better. I had the SADI DS on the 1st. When I woke up I had an NG tube which was very uncomfortable. They removed the tube the next morning which helped. My next challenge was swallowing the contrast for the xray. It made me extra nauseated and was painful. I had a break down (pity party) in radiology but felt better in the afternoon when my surgeon came in was and said they were able to get enough and images that my doc felt confident enough to start me on the phase 1 diet. I will likely be discharged later today, they are just keeping an eye on my nausea. So if not today it will be tomorrow. The only thing that is annoying and painful is the drain so I'm looking forward to getting it out. Right now I'm working on my Water. It is slow going but I'm getting a bit more in every hour.
  20. Gah, my nerves went into overdrive last night. Probably doesn't help that my 2.5 year old starting running a fever yesterday, so those mamma nerves and worry are intensified. I'm finishing last minute straightening up around the house now then heading to finish up shopping. Once that is done I'm going for a mani/pedi, hoping that will relax me. My husband is 100% behind me on this and so is my sister, as a matter of fact she "just" moved back to Florida today and will be staying at my house tonight to get the kids off to school and daycare tomorrow morning. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am and my surgery is scheduled for 8 am. Wishing everyone an uneventful surgery, super speedy recovery and amazing results! Best, Michelle
