Liver Reduction Diet... SUCKS.
ShellMilliner replied to erinmay93's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@erinmay93 Honestly, call you NUT or doctor and ask them if they would allow you to go off program for a meal. BUT, to keep yourself in ketosis you will need to ensure there are no added carbs, the Protein (fish or chicken) is lean and your veggies are free of fat. Personally, you are this close I say just keep plugging away, you already had your food funerals. But if you want do it under your docs advisement. -
How can I be stalled at 10 days post surgery
ShellMilliner replied to trishaz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're doing fine. You likely hit your 3 week stall a little early. I did too and it lasted about 2.5 weeks. Focus on getting in more Protein every day and increasing your Water. It is frustrating and if you did a poll on this site I am willing to bet 97% of everyone hit the same stall and felt exactly the same way. You are normal, just keep following your plan and the scale will move again. -
How did it feel?
ShellMilliner replied to dismond1209's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto on the, I'm still here! Then the next feeling was I did it, no turning back now. I had great pain killers on board and an NG tube for the first 24 hours so very minimal gas pain. I napped for an hour or so then started walking every 2 hours...slowly at first. I was a SADI so I was in the hospital 3 days. By the time I left I think I wore a trench around the unit from all my walks. -
pre op weight loss
ShellMilliner replied to jenpoo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
@jenpoo As @@TEXASLADY52 mentioned the purpose of a pre-op diet is not to lose weight. It is all about shrinking your liver. When you are obese the liver gets fatty and large and covers up the stomach like a blanket. Most docs have patients do a no carb, low fat diet of some sort (it varies greatly between sugeons on length and type). It is proven that the low carb diet reduces the fat and shrinks your liver, lifting it out of the way. This is beneficial because the less liver they have manipulate during surgery the better and less chance of nicks! -
Finally Lost Weight! Under 200# !
ShellMilliner replied to ab123.'s topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Woot, woot! Welcome to onederland! I can't wait to get there! Think the last time I saw that side of the 200's was in the early 90's! -
@stevodreo I do not have the answer to that. I do know that DS/SADI do require higher levels of AEDK and Iron than RNY. I was in the hospital for 3 days. They gave me the option to hangout for another day but the next day was Easter and I wanted to be home with my kids. I took off for three weeks but could've easliy returned in two. I had the time off and spent most of the third week hanging with my sister, shopping and relaxing.

2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea
ShellMilliner replied to ssourgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Actually, the sheer amount of IV fluids she has been receiving would impede weight loss. Also without protein and calories the body enters starvation mode so it holds on to everything it can. She likely has lost some muscle mass. That being said once she's up and moving around and getting real nutrition the results will come. Hoping for continued improvement. -

@@ssourgirl How are you both doing? I'm crossing my fingers there's been some improvement, but I'm worried since you didn't check in yesterday or today. -
@@stevodreo my only real decrease in energy was during the first three weeks, which is normal because of recovering from a major surgery. I went walking around EPCOT center on day 11 or 12...I kinda pushed it and over did but I really wanted a change of scenery. I'm almost 50lbs down and have a lot more energy than I did before surgery. To begin with because of swelling the sleeve holds about 2-3 oz from what my doctor told me as you heal and the sleeve stretches a bit 4-6 oz is about what most people end up with. This is why they stress 5 small meals/day. It helps with energy and maintaining your blood sugar. With the SADI you do have to commit to a life time of Vitamins. A special Multivitamin that is high in AEDK, Calcium, Iron, B-12 either sub-lingual weekly or injected monthly. I also have to take pepcid complete 2x/day for the first 6 months. I also chose to add Biotin (hair, skin, nails formula) for good measure. You will require 80-100 grams of protein/day so basically you become a carnivore but keep in mind fish and chicken are the leaner options. These were all things that I was wiling to accept to get healthy so I can enjoy my time with my children.

@Determination For Water, I had to have mine flavored. Prior to surgery I drank tons of water no issues, but after WLS it just hurt like swallowing rocks. Squeeze lemon, lime, add crystal light or make infused waters, it is easier to get down. Try drinking 1 oz every 15 minutes. Remember at this stage your shakes count as liquid too. At just over five weeks out I finally started hitting my Protein goals consistently. I had the SADI and need to get 80-100 grams and I started having an aversion to the shakes, so it was hard. I keep water with me at all times and sip throughout the day. But to start work on the 1 oz every 15 minutes then try to increase to 1.5-2 oz every 20. You will get there. You are not alone. I'd be willing the vast majority of people on this board all started the same way.

I'm considering going from a sleeve ( i have a leak) to a Bypass.
ShellMilliner replied to losinghope15's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@losinghope15 I really can not offer advice but I empathize with you situation. I'm so very sorry you've had so many complications and have been enduring it for so long. You obviously are a very strong and independent person because you have continued to perceiver for you family. Have you gone to another doctor for a second opinion? I'm not a doctor nor a medical professional but after 9 months and all you have been through to say just be patient seems a bit non-chalant. If you feel the revision is right for you then do it. It seems like you've done your research but again if it is within your means I would have a consult with a different doc just to see what they say. -
@Determination Yep I gained a couple pounds in the hospital. Lost a few then hit my week 3 stall that lasted close to three weeks. Now the scale is moving again. As long as you work the program and do what you should be doing, your surgery will work.

Hard Boiled Egg?
ShellMilliner replied to Amanda0305's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Amanda0305 That was soft foods for me, but per my plan I moved on to soft foods on day 15 post op. When does your next phase start. It is important to remember your tummy is healing and swollen and angry right now, so you don't want to irritate it or hurt yourself. -
How long on on puréed food?
ShellMilliner replied to hellohealthy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gotcha...Mine was full liquids and purees, then to soft foods (anything that can be cut easliy with a spoon), and I can begin regular foods next week (7 weeks). I know. I'm on it for a week to two weeks. Just curious to see what others' time frames were like! -
How long on on puréed food?

That is information you will need to get from your doctor and NUT. Everyone's post-op instructions are different. I was on purees from day 3-14.
