Mom0f3inOC reacted to lexiemia in Did anyone like the band better?
I had my lap band in 2004. I did good for a while. Over a period of a year and three adjustments I lost 100 lbs. I did have issues now and again with sliming depending on what I ate. Around the first part of 2014 I started have lots of reflux and was not able to drink anything in the mornings. It was usually around noon before I could eat or drink without vomiting. I was sleeping basically sitting up and buying stock in tums. It got to the point where I would wake up gurgling on Fluid coming out my nose and mouth. Last May the dr removed all the fluid from my band and I had an upper GI series. He said the band had slipped and it had to come out. We were in the process of moving across the state so he said it was no emergency to do right away. Over the followings months up until now I have gained 87 lbs. I am so frustrated with myself. At my smallest I was 137 lbs wore a size 6. After moving I have found a surgeon, jumped through all the hoops for insurance and now have my sleeve scheduled for May 28. I am so ready to get this band out. I should probably stop reading all this stuff on the net because it is scaring me. Example: people reporting that their band was embedded in their liver. Saw the surgeon yesterday and got some much reassurance. It will also be wonderful to wear the 10 boxes of clothes in my garage.

Nope! My only regret is that I waited so long. I have had the "effects" of a slipped band for about 2 years...and today is 2 weeks post-op for my revision. I'm just getting to advance my diet to pureed today...haven't had any heartburn, "stuck" feeling, am able to sleep with my head completely flat...
    Good luck with your surgery.

    UPDATE
    After peer-to-peer I was APPROVED!
My doctor said it only took 5 minutes to get it approved. Apparently the doctor she spoke to said it would apper that the person who originally denied the claim didn't even read the file because this one is a "no-brainer." I agree and that's why I was so shocked!
Thanks for all of your encouragement!
I will add that after about 2 days of being shocked and really mad, I settled down and was ready to go hard in the appeal process. Yet, I was actually so at-peace with everything that I was even okay with not having the surgery, if that's the way the appeals went, becuase I know that in the end, whatever happenes is the right thing.

Thanks for the thoughts on Mexico. I might start thinking more seriously about that if things don't work out there. I do like the American doctor who did my band, and he is the one who would be doing the sleeve, if I get approved.
I got a little bit more info from the insurance company.
In general the surgery was deemed “too investigational.”
The peer to peer is on Tuesday and I have no idea what to expect.

There are actually several people on this forum who have appealed and won. Some even had to a peer to peer review. I was fortunate to be approved the first time out but I know from personal experience that appealing insurance company decisions works. I have done them for other things and won. What will not work is having a defeatist attitude such as this:
if you want this, fight for it.

That's what I did. I didn't stand a chance with my insurance company because they required a five year documented weight history of a BMI over 40 or 35 w/comorbidities. Shame on me for at least TRYING to do it "on my own" and having lost 90+ pounds back in 2010/2011. That put my BMI well below 40 until it slowly crept back over 40 this past summer. So my options were self-pay or stay fat for another 3-4 years to meet their stupid requirements!

I feel ya! You should be super mad, I would too and it's only normal. After a day or two when you see a lighter shade of red, becuase you will prob still be upset just think about it a little more, but dont give up. Keep it moving, I'm sure it will work itself out. I had a situation about two weeks ago where I finished all the req. and had the paparwork submitted to have it kicked back due to BC having new 2015 requirements (requirements changed from 3 month weight monitoring to 6 month weight monitoring). I was origionally told that the new rules would go into effect until March, so I felt hopeless as well when I found out. I felt my body in a rage and I was in tears becuase it's one thing when you dissapoint yourself, but when someone else dissapoints you after you have done your part, that was the worst for me. So i hear ya but take a day or two then think about it, then do what's best for you.
