Hello BP,
I didn't have any pastries in the month of January. That's a record for me. Just by watching portion size, eating very little meat and very little wheat, I lost 10 pounds. I never went hungry and even had fast food three times. I'm pleasantly surprised. 201 to 190.8. Depending on which BMI calculator I use, my BMI is either 38.4 (Surgeon website) or 38.5 (Insurance website).
I had to switch insurance companies during open enrollment to one that would approve weight loss surgery. The approval process seems to be consistent for all insurance companies that cover surgeries. BMI 40 or greater, or BMI 35-39.9 with a comorbidities, Dietician or Nutritionist Consult, Psychology Consult (MMPI required), Documentation of Medically Supervised Weight Loss 6 consecutive within the past two years, Cardiac and Pulmonary Consults mandatory if age 50 or greater or BMI 50 or greater.
I met with the primary care doc on Jan. 4 to discuss surgery and documenting for supervised weight loss. I've been in touch with the surgeon's office too. During the second visit with the PCP in February I will give her the referral paperwork from the surgeon then make an appointment to see him. His office coordinator said that once he has the referral getting into see him is pretty quick, no long wait times for an appointment.
I've told my mom and best friend and they are on board and supportive. I'm not going to say anything to other friends and family until after the surgery.
