At 8 months post RNY I've realized I need to keep better track of my nutrients. I've written all of my food in a journal since surgery but haven't tracked nutrients for several months. Started tracking on My Fitness Pal and found I'm over....way over, where I should be. I've always struggled with making satisfying low calorie, low fat meals, apparently I still do. Now that I have quantity under better (not perfect) control my next hurdle is meal planning for optimum health. I'd love to see how others do it. It being eating 60-100 grams of Protein and 60-100 grams of carbs while staying satisfied and eating whole, less processed foods. If you do it dairy free even better....yogurt, cottage cheese, milk and I have issues. Please, please, please share your daily menus with me! If you use MFP and have journaled your diet and are willing to share it please friend me, my username is Goodnuff there too. Thanks.

@@Runner1, I sent you a request on mfp. Thanks!

I was only supposed to do one. I called my surgeon as soon as it came back up to see if I needed to redo it and he said not to worry about it.
-
I was supposed to drink mine at 6pm for a 7am surgery the following morning. I too ended up puking mine up but the surgeon said it was ok. Never did end up having a bm from it. If I had to do it all over I wouldn't have had the last supper I did and I would have started sipping the mag citrate earlier in the day to make sure it worked. Just my two cents.

Exactly. There are so many different plans and rules. For instance I was told by my surgeon I could have caffeine right after surgery. There seems to be no hard fast rules that all practices use and when you can't get a reasonable explanation other than "because I said so" it's hard for someone that needs to know the why's to follow. I've been using unsweetened cocoa powder from week 1.

Gastric Bypass Surgery Progress Pictures
goodnuff replied to JustFluffy's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
9 months and 96 pounds lost. I can hardly believe it. Finally eating healthier and burning 300-900 calories at the gym 3 times a week is actually working and it only took having a little surgery. -
Oh mom!!! That was a very good save. I've been told twice that "at least your weight loss wasn't drastic" by people who last saw me at my pre-op weight. 92 pounds in 7 months isn't drastic? I guess some people see us the same no after what our weight is?

I'm almost 9 months post-op, prior to surgery I had issues the other way but since I have had to take 2 stool softeners (docusate sodium) every morning, Benefiber twice a day and 2-4 prunes/day. I'm happily quite regular usually but every few weeks-months I need to take a half dose of Miralax. This is all based on my surgeon's recommendation. I've recently become a fan of using the Squatty Potty position with an upside down garbage can. Good luck.

Added about 2 drops of Watkins Rootbeer Concentrate that I found at Walmart to my Premier Vanilla Protein shake and 1/2 T of half and half. Absolutely delicious!

Tylenol Cold = Upset Stomach
goodnuff replied to F4T-TRAP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it capsule form? The actual capsule upsets my stomach. Looking at tylenol's website it doesn't look like it comes in capsule form. If it is caplets try breaking them in half, if you haven't already. If that doesn't work try the liquid form. Feel better soon. -
Yep, I'm going to repeat the whole brain needs to catch up thing. 92 pounds down and I don't see the difference everyone else sees in me. I also do not feel as different as I expected,I'm still just as tired as ever. Perhaps because I was active before surgery and I still am, maybe because I'm older? Who knows? Anyway, because I can only see it in pictures and not in the mirror my therapist suggested looking at a side by side several times a day to give my brain the new information. I now have a before surgery/3 months post/current face pic as my screen saver..it's the only place I look several times a day. Hopefully no one else sees it and thinks I'm completely narcissistic.

I agree. It takes a ton of commitment to keep going and I'm always finding new areas that need improvement, diet, exercise, etc. I'm hoping this will keep the weight loss on track and help me in maintenance once I get there. You are doing amazing by the way.

Thanks @@Cervidae, I sent you an mfp friend request this morning. That sounds like a great way to keep on track.

Same thing started happening to me. I knew from past experience some would say it wasn't the weight loss it was my attitude so I did a little social experiment, I walked around with resting bitch face all day and still had more attention in one day than in the last 25 years of my life. People, both men and women, are attracted to what they see on the outside and smaller is more socially acceptable. I'm trying to not be pissed about it.

I was a quantity eater before WLS and I continue to be one when I don't pay attention. I can't imagine that I will ever not be able to weigh and measure my food because somewhere I lost the ability to naturally stop eating when I should be full and if left to my own devices would end every meal in pain. I think in our community some would see what I eat (on some days) as a binge. At separate times I've had half of a small thin crust pizza, 15 Wheat Thins with 2T of Peanut Butter, 1/2 of a doughnut, 2 servings of Doritos. I eat something sweet and processed every day. 1/2 of a cookie, 1/2 c ice cream or an ounce of dark chocolate. It's not where I want, or thought, I'd be but it is leaps and bounds better than an entire large pizza, most of a 10 ounce bag of Doritos dipped in a block of cream cheese and a row of Oreos for one meal. I beat myself up regularly for not being what I thought Post-Op perfection would be but when I take a step back and remember what I was eating until 2 nights before surgery I can appreciate where I am and realize this will be a life long process. So, to answer the question I guess it depends on everyone's personal definition of binge. Some of us see eating any simple carb as a cheat, others eat them daily and are ok with it. I imagine the first group would gasp in horror at my food journal and the second would think it was completely normal. To prevent a true binge I do not give in to instant gratification. Used to be if I saw an ad for pizza I'd order it within the hour. Now if I think I want pizza I plan for it in 1-3 days, sometimes I get it, most of the time I completely forget that I was obsessed with it a few days ago.

Gosh, and I get peeved when I get calls once every few months for painting jobs because a national company put my number in their Google listing. Good luck.

I'm sitting in a similar boat. I'm not where I thought I'd be food choice wise at this point. I get my Protein, Water and Vitamins in every day but I'm eating way more processed sweets than I thought I would or could. I struggle between being ok, or rather proud of, and being disappointed in what I eat now compared to prior to surgery. I do not want to do extremely low carb as it is not how I want to live the rest of my life but I do need to reel in the kinds of carbs I'm allowing myself. Why must it be so difficult? Trying to navigate this new life, without falling into the "not goodnuff" trap is harder than I anticipated. Wishing you luck, I hope you find some good help at your upcoming appointments.

I had the same issue the first month after surgery. So dry my cheeks stuck to my teeth. Turns out I was dehydrated. It will still happen if I'm low on water for the day. In the previous eight years that had never happened. Now I drink 8-16 ounces before bed and have a glass right at my bedside.

Yuck! The odor of improperly, long packed-away clothing.
goodnuff replied to WLSResources/ClothingExch's topic in The Lounge
White vinegar. Let your clothes soak in a solution of one cup of white vinegar in a bucket of Water for about an hour. After soaking, wash the clothes with laundry detergent in your washing machine to wash away the mold and vinegar. You might need to repeat the process to remove all the traces of mold and any moldy smell from your clothes. -
Ditto. Must be appointment day. I've slowed to a crawl in the loss department but have lost 2 sizes in the same time I've only lost 6 pounds. Still left the doctors office feeling like a failure. Stupid scales.

That is a huge NSV. Amazing really, considering everything your week has been. Congratulations and I hope it gets better.

Ok, so I'm following these posts because I'm considering getting into the dating scene after a very long dating hiatus and I'm getting tips. I came to Starbucks between appointments and overheard, eavesdropped, a woman saying she was waiting for a date to arrive and that she was going to try calling him. She dialed, walked inside, got a drink and left. I'm guessing she got stood up. 20 minutes later a guy walks up and asks if I'm Emily. I had to chuckle as I said no, thinking he was the date. Turns out he's not, he's having a business meeting. I hope that lady's day gets better. Dating sucks.
