    At the starting line...

So, today I went to my first appointment. I got my official BMI, measurements, lab work, and met with the PA. I Learned that my BMI allows me to skip the six-month waiting period. I am nervous and excited. It's like I won the lottery, or something. I'm trying to keep myself in check. I am going to the library right now to pick up books on CBT to support my work making the mental shift. Wish me luck! XO, Ms. A

BCBS of Michigan. Waiving the six months?

You're right, Monopoly! The cut off is 50. Anything above eliminates the six month wait. Anyone know how long the process is without the 6 months?

    Post op pain?

I how many days did everyone miss from work? I am having my procedure sooner than I thought and need to know what kind of time off I should ask for.
  5. Wow! I can relate to your situation. I just came home for my first consult, and the six months was waived for me as well. I wish you the best, and agree that you will need to get those behaviors down no so that you can remain successful long term.

    Epiphany

So this morning as I am buzzing around the house trying to make it out the door to church on time, (Curse you, Daylight Savings) the thought struck me that after this surgery, grabbing a quick bite to hold me over isn't going to work anymore. I've been telling myself that I am willing to do whatever is necessary to get healthier, and that surgically removing out 2/3 of my stomach would be the one tool I needed to finally sustain my efforts to stay at a healthy weight. This morning as I hustled around the house it became clear to me that I need a lifestyle change more than anything...otherwise I would come home from this surgery with a third less of a stomach and the same mindset that necessitated this decision. One thing I have learned from this forum and from others in my life is that people no different than me--with the same optimism and good intentions--can (and do) regain weight after the surgery. I knew That in my head, but this morning, I recognized how it would play out for me. Lack of foresight, with a dash of poor planning, stress, and a few mornings hitting the snooze button, halfhearted (or perhaps far too unrealistic) fitness goals, and I'll be one if those posters needing someone to cheer me up because I've gained some obscene amount of weight back. I already know I don't want that, so, I am deciding now to shift my thinking as well as actions to prepare for the changes I know are coming. My initial appointment isn't until Tuesday morning, however, it's never too early to start. Anyone have suggestions on books to support a shift in mindset? XO, Ms. A

  19. I'm in MI. I was SUPPOSED to have my first appt. today, but there was a mandatory meeting called after work and I had to reschedule. I am so bummed because I have to wait until the TENTH of next month before I can be seen. Aright! Just venting.

How to tell your 4 yr old?

You might tell your young one that mommy is going to see the doctor to help her get healthy. This way, if it gets repeated, it is Pretty vague...

    One year anniversary

Are you eating at regular intervals to avoid your blood sugar crashing? I am just getting started on my journey, but I tend to crave starchy foods and noticed that if I went too long between meals I was more likely to grab carbs. How is your water intake? There are a ton of great recipes in the forums you may want to try. You can do this!!! XO, Ms.A

Weight Loss Surgery: The Easy Way?

I appreciate your comments and observations, and will use them to fortify myself for the journey ahead of me. I have been mulling over how I plan on addressing comments, and the more I do, the angrier I become. Weight loss in our society is like some kind of twisted blood sport: If I do well...it must come at the expense of someone else's success. The sleeve is a tool that haters consider to be an advantage. Nothing could be further from the truth! Others may want to discredit your success loosing weight once they learn how you have chosen to go about doing so, but I believe that is only because they are not willing to go through the process, or even understand the process. What's more, I am not going to waste my time explaining it.
