Surgery tomorrow (30/Mar/15
MsAlaineus replied to Magsqoti's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What a lovely place to recover! Best wishes! -
Many folks who go through WLS realize at some point that they've inadvertently developed an emotional attachment to food over the years that they've never fully realized. I think for men it is difficult to fully grasp the role that food plays in managing/avoiding or even mediating feelings. Do you think he would be open to going to a support group for overeating, or attending therapy? He's not alone in this, and with support, he can get through it. He's lucky to have you to care and look out for him! XO, Ms. A

My BFF shared with me that she uses her loose tummy skin to *ahem* "caress" her husband when she's in certain positions. She treats it as an extension of herself...he loves it, and she is unashamed/unapologetic about it. I think it's all about attitude.

MsAlaineus replied to MsAlaineus's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ann, I appreciate your kind words. I hadn't considered how admitting my struggle was a positive thing.???? I want to be successful. I know I can get there. I also realize I can't do this on my own. The commitment to three years of counseling is genius! I'm going to start looking for a counselor now that I can work with. I also have discovered that I have really powerful feelings bottled up inside me. Now that I'm not eating food whenever/however I want to, it's like a tidal wave of emotion at times. Am I the only one who has this happening to me? -
Weird pet related question

You were MIA, and now you're home, but your dog knows something's up. Give it time. You'll have your snuggle pup back soon. -
I am beginning to worry about the liquid diet! Are you able to drink hot tea? I think if I were able to drink hot tea I would be able to manage.

I certainly understand the imbedded biases that men (and women for that matter) carry toward anyone who falls outside the range of ordinary. I agree that heavier people are in some ways invisible, too. I also think that in our everyday social lives there isn't really have an acceptable way to talk about a person's weight loss. Most conversations are clumsy at best...and blunt at their worst. Try to be open to the possibility that people have become drawn to you and perhaps can't really articulate why. Don't spend one more second of your life building walls...and please don't disqualify others based on your hunch. That makes you no better. XO, Ms. A

ProjectMe: I honestly think most folks haven't the slightest notion of what a healthy BMI actually looks like.

You will be ok. You're doing this for yourself, and that's what is most important. She will come around, especially when the hard parts are over with.
