  1. Hi, I have CDPHP also EPO, but do have deductibles (Utica area surgeon). The process was actually really easy for me. My surgeon's office did all of the paperwork, approval process for me. So much so that I called several times saying "are you sure I don't have to do anything else" and they always said yep, you are fine. I did not have an insurance mandated pre-op diet, just a 2 day liquid diet from my surgeon. It may have to do with our pre-existing conditions too though, not sure. You can call CDPHP and ask them how much it will cost you-that was an easy call. My consultation was the end of January and my surgery was May 28. It could have been in April, but I wanted to wait till had I a lot of time off a work. The time in between was spent on a visit to my GP, an endoscopy, several different blood tests, h-pylori test, psych visit, nutritionist visit, pre-op testing, and maybe one other thing. Good luck!!
  2. Hi Rosemary! I love Mahi too! Would love to make that. Have you been eating it now? Is it easily digestible?
  3. Thanks Nancy New. I think I will try something like that! I had previously tried baking it! The veggies you mentioned sound yummy, though I have yet to try any of them as I starting with very soft ones!

    Why did you choose bypasd?

I chose this first after prompting from my surgeon and after more research it seemed like many people were having revision to rny and I did not want to go down that road. Sleeve is very new and the I would have liked to see more research to convince me.
  6. Hi All, I was May 28th... Does someone have a light and flaky fish recommendation? I tried cod and tilapia and neither one went over very well. Has anyone tried anything else? Not allowed other meats yet. Thanks!!
  7. Was able to start next phase yesterday which includes fish, soft veggies, and some other things. So I made Tilapia for dinner. Felt fine afterward but 2 hours later felt like the food was stuck in my throat-then ensuing uncomfortable feeling in chest and general nausea. Long story short, had to make myself throw up after about 4 hours of pain. The whole experience got me really upset! Not sure if it was just the fish, the amount, the chewing-I swear I really tried to follow all the rules. So now I am scared to try fish again or anything that resembles it. Back to cottage cheese for today and probably tomorrow...How to get past this? I am not allowed any other kind of meats yet (only egg, tuna and flaky fish).
  8. Hi TLW! Good to hear from you! I am doing ok except for last night (and last week ended up having to get hydration)!! I am not allowed shell fish until the 8 week mark, ugh! I too will see my surgeon this week-on Thurs. thinking I am around -30+ a bit, if their scale matches mine. I need to ask about protein because our Nut does not have recommendations for protein after week 2, right now I am not supposed to be doing protein shakes either. They want us to get it from food I guess-but there is no number attached to it! I am definitely afraid to try the fish again, but can't do other meats until week 7!! That seems so far away!! I did have some canned green beans and they went ok, going to try lentils tomorrow I think! Feeling ok otherwise, less tired!

    Could use some ideas

Blend equal parts ricotta and pumpkin purée, 1 egg, a bit of pumpkin pie spice and a tiny bit of a sweetener of your choice like Splenda. Cook on stove in large frying pan stirring until egg is cooked through and the consistency changes. It's like pumpkin oatmeal, so good!
  10. New York but moving to Woodstock, Ga in two months!

    Any Regrets?

I am only 3 weeks out, so I know my thoughts will change as my weight changes too... I have had a tough few weeks, certainly not as bad as some, but not totally easy. That being said, I have not once regretted this decision, but have gone through the "wow, this is really how it is now, really it is" thing. I am learning everyday and glad I have the summer to make it work (I am in education!).

    Personal question.

I am definitely the odd one out. I have gone everyday since the day after surgery and I am 3 weeks tomorrow. However, this definitely caught up with me as I had to have hydration yesterday (even though I was drinking the recommended amount of water!!).

    Nausea

I was also May 28. I started feeling dizzy two days ago. Yesterday nausea started too. Now today both dizziness and nausea have not gotten better. This really has me down/sad, dizziness has kept me from doing anything, all I can do is lay down. I have been drinking the required amount of liquid. Called my surgeon, they want me to go in tomorrow, might give me iv fluids. I don't really think that dehydration is the cause, we will see!
  15. I am 18 days post-op, today I was allowed to start eggs, tuna, crackers. I had 1/2 of a scrambled egg around 11:30am. Around 2:30 I became very dizzy and nauseous, had to lay down. Then started to feel like I was going to be sick (both directions!). Diarrhea and gagging continued for awhile and I still feel a bit nauseous-laying down now. What could cause this? I know it is not dumping, because there was no sugar involved. Could it be low/high blood sugar? I had yogurt and cottage cheese all week (this past week) and have been ok. I used about a teaspoon of lactose free fat free milk to make the scrambled egg. Now I am afraid to eat eggs again! And this is day one of new-soft chew foods! I am not supposed to drink protein shakes anymore-as nut says they want us to stop on week 3. Ugh, sad about this incident.
  16. Not necessarily, they had me taking all my pills normally, uncrushed, while I was in the hospital! I was worried at first but it was fine.
  17. That I would have numbness in my leg and butt! I had a hard time walking around and laying/sitting was horribly uncomfortable not due to incisional pain but to the numbness apparently caused by the way the move you around and strap you down during surgery. This scared me and my nurse/surgeon were like "well, it may be from the straps, I don't know" like they didn't want to say. I still have some numbness praying it goes away.

    Frustrated

I am just 2 wks and not feeling annoyed, but definitely sensitive to all emotion. I think part of it is the fear of the unknown and the lack of control. Being on such a strict schedule of food and Water and Vitamins, that is ultimately what we HAVE to do (obviously we chose it), or else. We no longer have a smorgesboard of options at our disposal and are no longer free to graze and roam on the food aspect of our day. I have have the fear in the back of my mind of eating too much, not drinking enough water, getting sick, moving to the next food stage, feeling tired forever, etc. All of this will pass, but we are right in it. Push through and be patient and kind to yourself!
  19. I will be 17 days post op when I need to run an all day meeting at work. I am worried about two things mostly-1. being super tired, 2. lunch will be catered and we usually eat WHILE running the meeting. I have not told any of these people about my RNY and do not plan to (I am also leaving this job in a few weeks). I don't know how to handle this. Foods I am allowed at that point per my nut will be-scrambled eggs, tuna, crackers, toast, cottage cheese, applesauce, oatmeal, cream of wheat. Pretty sure none of these foods will be available with the possible exception of toast. If I bring my little teeny tupperware of tuna salad-I will feel so awkward while everyone is eating the catered food! Help.
  20. 1 week 1 day post, and I swear I think about scallops (of all things) all day long. This is totally in my head but hoping it goes away??? Ugh! What happens when I am allowed to eat foods like scallops? I guess it could be a protein thing? It's too early for me to be eating a full amount of protein though! Does this mind stuff get easier?
