  1. I'm 7 weeks out-This morning I made an egg bake- eggs, lactaid milk, diced mushrooms, diced onions, spices and some cooking spray for the baking dish. Shortly after I urgently had to go to the bathroom and felt like I was going to throw up. Luckily did not throw up, but right now I still feel very nauseous (2 1/2 hrs later). I have been eating all of these things for several weeks with the exception of the mushrooms. Could the mushrooms really cause this? I feel awful!
  2. Thank you all! I threw out the rest of the egg bake and have decided to steer clear of mushrooms for awhile! Not sure if that was it? I am also really watching myself to see if I am eating too fast.
  3. I am only in week 8, but my advice would be to re-read all of your materials from your surgeons office-regarding nutrition. Then, take inventory of yourself, are you following the recommendations? You have done really well so far. I hope at 5 mos I have been as successful as you!!
  4. I was in the hospital for three nights. By the time I got home I was doing things on my own though I did have someone staying with me to help out. It was nice to have someone just in case. I was only on Tylenol. I wouldn't say you have to have someone but if she can stay with you just the first full day at home it would probably make you both feel more at ease.

    Light headed

I was feeling very light headed about the same time. I was not on bp meds and I was getting in the recommended amount of fluid. But I was also going to the bathroom frequently. Turned out to be dehydration, I had to go to hydration clinic and I felt much better after that. However, it would have been nice to not have to do that. I have since upped my fluid 20 oz more than recommended.
  6. While I don't have the same medical conditions, I do have a back injury. Tylenol does nothing for the pain! My best friend has been the heating pad. I have also been able to move around a bit more and stretch-that is helping a little.
  7. I am 7 wks post op and I am definitely not mourning the appearance of me. However, I do feel a since of uneasiness about my social side-going out to eat with friends, going to other's houses for dinner parties, picnics, get togethers. The experience is going to be different for me, because I will not be celebrating the food, and sometimes not eating at all. Food has been a big part of my entire life-birthdays, graduations, family gatherings, holidays, memorials, and food has been just plain social. I have gone out with a friend twice since surgery and it is a bit limiting looking at the menu and not finding anything to eat and not having as many choices. However, it was not a bad experience and I did not feel that overstuffed, I am going to regret this later feeling. I know that I will learn how to hand the social situations, it will just take time!
  8. It was my first time in the hospital. I ended up staying for 4 days and 3 nights-it seemed like forever. I had my own room so there was no need for ear plugs. I was glad to have my phone and charger and slippers. Other than that they provided everything. I wasn't in the mood to watch tv or do anything other than send a few texts here and there. I had my ipad but didn't even take it out of my bag! It was nice to have visitors, though I slept a lot esp. the first two days. I only had Water the entire time I was at the hospital-that was interesting, though I did not feel like I was hungry or anything. Worst things-getting out of bed and moving around in bed was very painful but you have to do it to gain strength, my IV blew in my hand-this was painful and they had to place a new one in my other arm-my hand was swollen and painful for 2 weeks, someone on the floor had C diff so I was scared to death that I would get it! Some of my nurses were great, others lacked the "nurse" compassion! Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience, but it was a necessary experience to get me to the path I am on.
  9. Yes, don't stock up too much. I have unused Protein powders and drinks that I probably won't use. My plan does not want us to continue to drink calories (protein drinks/shakes) after week 4. For energy, I was surprised at how tired I was and how little energy I had for the first 3 weeks. Getting the Water in was difficult for the first two weeks for me only because of the learning curve and being afraid to drink too much. Once you figure out how much you can sip at once, it becomes much easier. I have 5 water bottles that have ounces labeled on the side which is helpful in knowing how much I have to go or have finished so far. As for clothes, I am close to needing smaller sizes. I have already donated or taken to consignment clothes that just don't work anymore. I plan on going to consignment/thrift shops to see if I can find cheap but nice things to get me through. I may buy a few new items for work clothes if I can find them on a super sale somewhere. I will continue taking to consignment, hoping to make a few bucks to put back into the clothing fund.
  10. Yay for clothes being too big! Congratulations! I too went through clothes over the weekend-I am moving in two weeks and trying to get rid of things anyway. It was surprising how many pairs of pants and jeans no longer fit! Less to pack!
  11. Has anyone tried the online clothing rental services like Gwynnie Bee? I wonder if it is worth it, instead of purchasing new/used clothes every so often. I am at the point where my professional work clothing is not working for me anymore. Any other ideas?

    Small Plateau Blues

I go back in forth on whether I should weigh myself everyday. However, I just made a graph of my weightloss and I really feel that it is helpful. Some days I have lost nothing, others I have been up and others down a good amount. It is the endpoint that is what matters! My weekly totals are steady now but it was interesting at the beginning! 1 wk Preop -3.2lbs, wk 1 -6.8, wk 2 -22lbs, wk 3 -0lbs, wk 4 -3.8lbs, wk 5 -4.8lbs, wk 6 -4.2lbs. Keep doing what you are doing, it will pay off!
  13. My plan allows it and I use a little bit with both.
  14. Congratulations! What a positive outlook you have. You will definitely reach your goals!

    50 lbs LOST!

Fantastic job!!! Do you have a 50lb goal celebration planned? I plan to get a mani/pedi-which is something I normally don't spend money on but will when I reach 50!
  17. I am a teacher, so I planned to have surgery at the beginning of the summer when I was off of work already. However, looking back on the process I would have wanted at least 3 weeks. With the ups and downs, lack of energy, nausea and just getting used to everything 3 weeks would be helpful.

  20. The cotton feeling in your mouth could be thrush. Check to see if your tongue and cheeks look normal and pink!

    TODAY'S THE DAY

Hope you are doing well! Congratulations!!
  23. About the vitamins-have you been eating all the recommended amount of Vitamins in your current diet (with just the foods you have been eating)-probably not. I hate taking vitamins, but I can really tell the difference now that I take them daily, even just in my skin and nails-they look so much better, nails so much stronger too. I would venture there is not enough scientific, peer reviewed research (not just some opinion article) to show that taking vitamins is not good for you! My surgeon gave me a statistic that I found to be very helpful-something like people who have the surgery live 12-15 years longer than those who continue in the obese lifestyle.
  24. Is it normal to start feeling sore again at 5 weeks post op? I was definitely more active yesterday than I have been, but didn't think I would feel sore afterwards. I feel like it is mostly incisional pain, but also some soreness on inside too. Anyone felt like this after doing more activity at this stage?
