  1. I stopped all NSAIDs (the day after my initial consultation which was 4 months preop) because I had been used to taking ibuprofen a lot. It was hard because Tylenol just doesn't do the same job, but I am glad I stopped them before I really needed to.
  2. Congrats on 60! My nutritionist did not give a protein requirement but recommends protein first and very little slider foods. I have been using myfitnesspal and know that I am around 35-50 G protein per day, sometimes in the 60s-which I know is lower than most are expected to do.

Shot down by my "best" friend

She may have felt awkward in not knowing the appropriate reaction to your news. I would not take it personally. Judging by her email she did try to make up for it, so she must care about you, sometimes we need to "teach" people what we want or need from them especially when it comes to something they don't understand. Give her time.
  4. Thank you! still working on it. At three mo now and new ins doesn't start until Sep. 1.
  5. I am 11 weeks post, doing well... I just moved to a new state and new job. My new insurance does not cover bariatric surgery. How do I get my 3 mo, 6 mo and year labs covered and interpreted by someone who understands our needs....without paying out of pocket? Any one have any ideas? Frustrated!!
  6. Yesterday was my 3 mo anniversary! Down 65 lbs! Happy with my progress! Frustrated with my moving and my surgeon not wanting to do anything for me from afar, but hopefully things will work out soon! [/img]
  7. I just started back to work this week. I am getting by on wearing dresses or skirts that I can still get away with wearing, esp those that have a belt. I decided no pants for awhile as all of them don't fit and I don't want to buy any. Though I do have 1 pair of skinny jeans that still fit though they are not as fitting anymore. I found I can wear some of my old shirts with those, the style right now is a bit baggy on top, so it works for now-though no jeans at work! I took my passable clothes to a consignment shop and even picked up a "new" dress while I was there for only $10! It has been a little frustrating but I feel good so I am just making it work!

    Cream of Wheat

I had it at home for a few weeks after surgery!
  9. I just moved to a new state for a new job. I am anxious about finding a new surgeon to follow me. Hoping that my new insurance will allow me to chose one-if I can find one! I saw my surgeon right before I moved and everything was fine, but now I will need to wait until my new insurance kicks in in September. Ugh-lots of changes at once. Hoping all is well...Thanks for listening!!
  10. Only 3 mos post but definitely does not feel enjoyable!

    5 days post op

Rumbling will get less with time and adding other foods. You may still get it on occasion though as mine was rumbling a bit this morning. Not a big deal it went away shortly after it started!
  12. Talk to your surgeon if the pain is bad-however, I still have pain here and there occasionally and I am three months post! Muscles, incisional, insides adjusting, gas, all kinds of reasons.
  13. Take yourself to the movies!!!?

    5 days post op

All normal! You are doing great!! I still have slight pain on the left side and I am three months post!
  15. Just moved to Georgia-north of Atlanta. Haven't been able to find a support group yet. My new insurance starts the beginning of September so I don't have a new Dr yet. Anyone know of any local groups?

    Atlanta,Ga

Anyone know of any support groups in the area? I am in Cherokee county. Had surgery 5/28/15, just moved to Georgia last week!
  17. I had numbness in my right thigh and knee that took about 2 wks to get better. I also had numbness in my left buttock-I still have some numbness there but it has improved a lot. Hopefully it continues to get better. My surgery was 5/28.
  18. I am only 11 wks out...but have gone out to eat a few times due to traveling and again today because of a new job. We went to Chinese. I looked up the menu beforehand and decided on the hibachi shrimp. It was lunch so it came with soup, rice, egg roll and crab Rangoon for $5!!! Being with new co-workers I just ordered as is instead of saying hold everything but the shrimp! I ate the shrimp-4-5 med size and a few bites of broccoli, mushroom and onion and a tiny taste of the soup. It was good and no one said anything when my plate was still full at the end. I also ordered a water even though I couldn't drink it, I have decided it is easier to do so than to say no to drinks. I just move it away and don't touch it. Overall the food was good and I really didn't miss the rest of the stuff on my plate!

    Blood thinners ...

I had them in the hospital and the nurse taught me how to do them before I left. My dr requires ten days for everyone regardless of blood clotting history. It wasn't a big deal just a necessary step in the process.

    Pre op and stressing

Strangely I was craving scallops for two weeks post op! It wasn't that bad though. I think knowing that you can't have it or you will be very ill helps. Havent had too many bad cravings lately-if I do it is usually for something in my new routine of foods, so it's all good. This surgery really does assist you, it really has helped me re-learn things, and I am still on the learning side of things everyday.

    Question about long term

I am not a veteran but in my research vitamin deficiency is a possibility. Not sure if it is more likely due to absorption issues, quality of vitamin supplements, or patient compliance.

    4 month progress report

    You look fantastic! Congratulations!!

    I'm so tired.....

Took me almost 4 weeks to stop feeling completely exhausted! Keep doing what you are supposed to, make sure you force yourself to get out and walk several times a day too!
