    High Protein Powder Help

My absolute favorite is unjury. Out of all the Protein powders I've tried, I think this brand tastes the best. www.unjury.com
  2. I know everyone is different. But I'm 2 weeks post op (VSG) and I've only lost 7 lbs since the surgery. I've lost a total of 17 lbs b/c of the pre op diet but I'm only 7 down in 2 weeks since surgery. First, I am grateful that I've lost any weight at all. And I realize it takes time and that I need to appreciate how far I've come and to be patient. But the main reason for my post is, I'd like to hear from others (early on at 2-3 weeks post op) on how much weight they've lost since surgery? Has anyone else only lost just a few pounds early on or did you loose a lot more in the beginning?
  3. I'm a little over 3 months post op and I'm just starting to really see noticeable hair loss. I've heard and read all about this happening prior to my surgery. And I've also read that your hair will eventually go back to normal. But what I haven't heard or read (or maybe I wasn't paying attention) is HOW LONG does it take till it starts to grow back or go back to the way it was?

    WLS Eats

I think this is a great question/topic. I'll be interested to read what others post about this. I'm a little over 3 months post op and my surgeon/nutritionist advised (especially for the first year) to stay away from carbs/starches/sugars. They suggested my diet be protein/vegetables/water. If I made breads/subs/sugar, etc (even in small amounts) as part of my daily diet, I (personally) would not loose weight. Even with having VSG.
  5. Congratulations! That must feel so good. I'm so looking forward to Onederland!

    CrAnKy! With a capital B!

During my second week post-op, I became very irritated. Everything annoyed me. I even posted something about it on here just like you. For me, the irritation was short lived. Just a few days. And I haven't felt that way since. Lovin' every day now!
  7. I have 6 incisions. I was told that, during surgery, if the surgeon needs to "see" certain area's, an extra incision or two may need to be made.

    Scale at the doctor's office.......

Thank you for sharing that. Love it!

    What did you eat

I didn't enjoy baby food at all. But I loved loved loved Cream of Wheat. I had to thin it out quite a bit w/ skim milk but at that phase, it tasted so good to me (I added cinnamon too). I also enjoyed fat-free cottage cheese and fat-free refried beans w/ low fat cheese.

    Help

My favorite tasting protein so far (and by far) is Unjury.
  11. I can tell you my experience. I have a 4 yr old and an 8 yr old. My husband stayed home from work the first 4 days I was home from the hospital. I absolutely needed that help. Resting must be your priority. Now, here's where opinions may vary. After those 4 days of resting, I was ok to do the "day to day" responsibilities of taking care of my kids on my own. (other than lifting them up). I took it slow but was able to take care of them. Best of luck to you!

    Parents with toddlers

I have 2 young children and was advised not to lift them up for at least one month after surgery. My surgeons' rule of of thumb was "nothing heavier than a gallon of milk".
  13. For me, 4 weeks until I felt "normal" again. 5 weeks until I felt no signs of me even having the surgery. (Except for, of coarse, getting full after eating very little food).

    My story is new gossip:(

I didn't keep my surgery a secret. I told everyone. And I too, rec'd lots of interesting comments. The one that sticks out in my mind the most is "its the easy way out". If I've learned anything after being sleeved, is that is it not an easy way out by any means. Its a great tool, and yes, its helped me loose weight more efficiently than if I hadn't had the surgery. But it is NOT easy. A lot of work needs to go into it. You shouldn't be embarrassed about ANYTHING!!!

    One thing

To be better prepared (mentally) that the weight comes off much slower than I thought ....even with following my diet and exercise program carefully.

    Gained weigh during surgery

I didn't gain but I've heard that between all of the fluids they pump in you during surgery as well as all of the gas, its not uncommon. My doctors office did tell me that some people gain weight during the first week or two after surgery. It will come off as long as you follow the proper diet plan. Best of luck to you!

    Diabetes

I am a Type 2 Diabetic. Was diagnosed when I was 29 (I'm now 39). So before I even considered surgery I knew I was going to have some hurdles w/ getting my A1C down. My doctor put me on insulin to lower my A1C for surgery. After about 3 months of taking the insulin, my A1C went down to a level where it was "safer" to perform the surgery. In my opinion, its been worth everything I've gone through. I'm now about 5 weeks post surgery (sleeve) and my blood sugar numbers have never been better. My goal is to beat diabetes altogether but I have to loose a lot more weight before I can get my hopes up. Best of luck to you in your journey.

    No drinking with meals

This part does not seem to get easier for me (yet). In fact, its been my most challenging change thus far. I absolutely loved having a cold drink w/ my meals. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this habit will get easier as the months pass. Maybe it will for you. Sorry that I couldn't give better news but I wanted to be honest.

    Is this normal

My story is very similar to yours. My surgery was just before yours on 1/26. I've had no complications whatsoever. I'm able to get in my Protein (I've actually found Protein shakes that I really enjoy). And I'm not the greatest at getting in my minimum ounces of Water a day. My weight loss has been slower than I expected. I've rec'd a lot of negative comments about my disappointment in my slow weight loss. I'm grateful for every pound I've lost so far, I was just taken back b/c I assumed I would loose a lot more IN THE BEGINNING. I would say not to worry and be patient. (easier said then done I know). I haven't reached any "stalls" yet that I've been reading about from other sleevers but I'm trying to get mentally ready for them. Good luck to you!

    Clock ticking on making goal?

JamieLogical, I can't add my experience to help answer your question because I am new to this. Only 3 weeks out from surgery. But I do want to add that I've always enjoyed your posts. They are intelligently written and to the point. You actually responded to one of my questions earlier on and it really helped me. You seem to have a pretty good head on your shoulders and in my opinion will do fine with whatever this sleeve throws out at you. I seem to be loosing weight a lot slower than I expected (a phase in which I'm trying hard to get over) and I know you can relate. Good luck to you after the "honeymoon" phase!

    Recovery period experience?

Everyone's recovery is different but I'll let you know about mine. It went better than I expected. I had more moderate discomfort rather than any pain. Gas pain was very moderate the day of surgery and the day after surgery. Once I got home on day 3, the gas pain diminished greatly. I had to rest for 1 full week. You'll need someone to take care of you at least for the first full week home. But after that, I felt great. No problems, no complications, and discomfort was gone. I can only imagine how busy your life is being a full time mom and full time student. The hardest part is going to find time to rest and take care of yourself for a week or two. Best of luck to you!
  23. Thank you everyone. It was great to read the responses and to know that others are experiencing or have experienced similar weight loss in the beginning. I'm proud of how far I've come. I just had a higher expectation of weight loss at the start. Your responses gave me some perspective and I do feel better.
  24. I'm 6 days out from surgery and today has been the worst thus far by way of bad mood, very short temper, and irritation. Everything enrages me. I've felt very irritated all day long. Can someone...anyone ..... just tell me this will go away in time.... I just need to hear it !!! Thank you
