    camping food ideas????

I'm not sure where your at as far as foods are concerned, but canned re-fried Beans with some cheese is awesome. Also cottage cheese, yogurt, string cheese, all very portable if you've cooler space. Pre-cooking some meat is a great idea too if your on solids now. Also pre-made Protein shakes don't NEED refridgeration [though it sure helps!!]. Have a great time!

    Re-examining my goal

Remember too BillOH the amount of muscle you've put on with all your exercise and running. BMI charts don't take that into consideration. You might consider seeing a sports medicine Dr and asking his opinion. Sounds like you've done an incredible job!
  3. Personally I got a LOT of relief with Gas-x strips. They seemed to help my body absorb and 'deal' with the after surgery gases. Also, a cold pack was my best friend for the first 4 days, gave me tons of relief. Hope you feel better soonest, don't avoid your pain meds.

    No surgery today...

wow mom, I'm so sorry! But now is the time to ask and answer these questions for yourself! It took me almost 3 years from when I first looked into banding to decide to do it. During that time I read and researched. I took the time to ask and answer the tough questions for myself, cause that's what this all comes down to. Doing this for YOURSELF. Until you and only you are totally sure that this is the right decision then your not ready for surgery. Don't let the opinion of people that don't matter in the long haul influence you. I had my surgery July 16th, all I can tell you is, I'm beyond glad I did, and I feel great. Good luck to you on your journey. Don't get the cart before the horse, be sure in your own heart and mind that the band is right for you, when you do you'll be ready and look forward to the change :-)!

I'll be glad when I can........

I'll be glad *when i can quit taking my diabetes meds!!!!!! *when i hit Onederland *when i can shop anywhere for clothes
  6. The bottem line....What does your post-op directions say?? THAT'S what you need to follow. It's not a DIET it's directions to help you recover from major surgery! Protein shakes are available in any grocery store, Protein powder too in most. Hope you contact your Dr and get back with the program. You can do this and be successful! :bored:
  7. Cathrine55, WOW!! That's just awesome. I've no clue what Onederland will look like....let alone the 170's! Keep up your great work.
  8. Had surgery 7/16, all went really well. My 3 best friends post-op have been. Gas-x melts [omg the relief!!], a cold pack for my port incision, using it at least once a day and quit using pain meds yesterday, and Benefiber! Ah I could get rapturous about Benefiber rofl.

    Realize or Lap-Band??

I decided on the Lap-Band. I like to travel and was told there are significantly more Lap-Band qualified Drs out there than Realize. Felt that if there were a problem on a trip finding a Dr. or fill center that could help me would be important.

    Surgery on July 15th

Hi Jescil, I have my surgery on the 16th, I'm right between super excited and super nervous lol. May your journey be smooth and your recovery swift!
  11. What we think of as the 'classic' signs of a heart attack are for MEN. Women often present in a totally different way, please do what has been suggested and at least contact your regular physician!
  12. My pre-op diet is 2 liquid Protein shakes and a Lean Cuisine. I can also have s/f Jello and popcicles. I look at the shakes as 'medicine', right now all foods turn me off, but I'm getting a bit tired of being spacey [spacier?]. I told my hub and son I was taking a month off from the kitchen . I'll get back to them after the post-op 2 weeks of liquids! I'm in awe of those of you on full liquid pre-op diets! Your amazing.
  13. One-a-day has come out with a One-a-day Woman's formula that disolves in Water. I bought a packet of that for the first few weeks post-op til I can go back to pill form Vitamins. Also got Benefiber with Calcium, to use once daily to up my calcium intake. I plan to use regular Benefiber in almost all I drink to keep things 'on track', just the thought of MOM makes me have childhood flashbacks I'd prefer not to revisit rofl. From previous experience I have a small pillow for restroom visits post-op. I've found a pillow held against the abdomen makes things much less painful the first few days.

    Doubts? Nerves

Sounds like we're all in about the same boat! I too am nervous as I get closer to surgery date [7/16]. I'm also VERY excited. I'm SURE this will be the successful time. Oddly enough on the diet, I'm really not interested in food. FWIW, for my 'meal' each day, I'm just having a Lean Cuisine. That way I don't get tempted to overeat, when it's gone...it's gone  Also, even though I don't like Jello or popcicles, I have found them helpful right now. As for normal, I've never been and have no intention of starting now lol . I want to be off my meds, I want to buy clothes in the 'ladies' rather than the 'womans' dept . I want to be proud of ME, and with the band and the support of bandsters here and my family....I will be, and so will you all! :tongue_smilie:

    grandmawof3

Try brushing your teeth when you want something sweet. NOTHING tastes good right after you brush lol. Also consider a hobby that takes both hands to do [knitting, crocheting, x-stitch, beading, etc.] hard to eat if your hands are busy. Some exercise instead is a great idea, if walking is too difficult try some 'chair' exercises, such as stretching or Yoga. There are great tapes out there or programs on PBS that'll help you learn what to do. Also repeat this mantra :-) 'NOTHING tastes better than thin'! Good luck to you. Gitrdone

    Confused. Can someone help me??

I'm sorry, but for me this would be a no-brainer. If you were able to lose your excess weight and keep it off you wouldn't need to consider WLS, but since your here..... I'd jump on the chance to clear up health issues such as you face. Good luck with your decision. I DO understand your questioning yourself, I think most of us do leading up to this. July Bios?

I'm 53 almost 54 :tongue2:! I weighed 150 at 18 when I got married. Weigh 261 now, my highest. I'm 5'7". Haven't weighed under 200 in 30 years. It's been so long since I've been able to wear non-plus clothes I've no idea how much I'd have to lose to be able to DO that. I've been married 35 years in July, have a 17 yr old son and 5 Border Terriers. I also have Type II Diabetes. My first goal is to get off my meds, honestly after that is all 'gravy'. Like most of us, I'm excited and scared at the same time. My surgery date is July 16th, I know with the help and support of my family and the folks I meet on this site I'll be successful! We ALL will be! :cursing: Gitrdone

    Pre-Op Diet?

I start my 2 weeks on July 2nd :-). Two Protein shakes a day and a meal of protein/veggie. Also allows s/f Jello, popcicles, s/f non carbonated drinks etc. Oddest thing for me, since I had my Dr consult, I've lost interest in food. I mean I've had some 'goodbye' foods, and they just weren't worth it. I'm looking forward to the pre-op diet part. Gitrdone

  23. Good for you! I'm in the same boat, with the six month diet, almost one month down :-P. Noticed your from Carlisle, used to spend summers there when I was a kid. My aunt and uncle had a dairy farm. GL on your lapband journey! Gitrdone
  24. fwiw, you can also use the egg whites that come in a carton for protien. Just be sure they are pasturized. There's a recipe right on the carton. Gitrdone
  25. My biggest fan is my son. My husband is supportive, but questions everything, though I'm guessing he'll get in line when I'm successful. My brother and sil are awesome about it. I guess being aggorophobic has it's fringe +'s lol. Gitrdone
