    Want to start running...need encouragement

WOW Kristen that sounds amazing! Must be nice running with nature, knowing me though I'd be looking at a flower and fall down a cliff rofl. BillOh, why can't you run? Because your like a 'pro' now or what :-)? Got a pair of Brooks shoes Sunday and oh my what a HUGE change, had no clue how much I was beating up my feet before! Hope I'll have successes to relate eventually but for right now week 1 on C25K is kicking my over inflated a$$ :-P.

    11 days post-op feeling bad.

Sorry to hear your not feeling well. My surgeon prescribed Nexium for the first couple months after surgery to avoid re-flux. Are you following your post-surgery diet to the letter? Remember that is to allow your body to heal properly. You don't want to stretch your pouch, or open yourself up to the band slipping. The wicked breath is usually because of the high protein. Not much you can do about it right now but keep sugar-free mints handy. Hope your feeling better soonest!
  3. Of COURSE you'll get back on track! You've already started. Losing 30 pds since the birth of your son is AWESOME. Remember your body has had quite the 'workout' over the last 12 months. I'm SO impressed with what you've accomplished over the last 3 1/2 years...2 healthy babies, reaching your goal weight once, and you'll do it again. Sure it's going to take some time, but that you've got. From your story you've also the commitment to work the band and succeed. This site is a great place to find help and encouagement, welcome!

    1 Month Post Op Appt

That's AWESOME Lisa! My first fill appt. isn't til Sept 10th. I'm thinking by then I'll probably be ready :-P. So far at a month out I too am able to follow the program [portion sizes, eating just 3 times a day, etc]. Good for us

    Food Journal?

I've been using the daily plate also. I LOVE that site! It's so easy to keep track of what I eat, my exercise, etc. I enjoy seeing the total calories/net calories after I enter my daily exercise :-P. It's a great motivator for me!
  6. CONGRATULATIONS on your beautiful baby! Look at you, a new mom and back to sexy already :-P

  7. WOW! Enjoyed reading your goal list. You've done an incredible job!

    Diabetic & lapband

I too am a type 2 diabetic. I have been taking 2 glip/metformin 1,000/2.5 mg twice daily. Now 4 weeks post-op I've cut the amt in half. Hoping in a few more months to be able to drop them completely! I've also gone from a WoW addicted computer hugging couch potato, to going to the gym 5 days a week. This is my 3rd full week of the gym and scary as it sounds I actually RAN a little yesterday  [lol wasn't pretty, but still]. Still early days for me but I'm SO very glad I got the band!

    Want to start running...need encouragement

All I can say is D*mn you all! 4 weeks since surgery, 3rd full week in the gym, and today did the first day of C25K! I got so inspired reading about all of your successes I had to take a shot myself . Do have a question about shoes. I have 3 pair of trail shoes but am working out in a gym now. These shoes just aren't cutting it on the treadmill, will regular running shoes help? The 3 pr of trail running shoes I have are asics and I really like them for the larger toe box they tend to have. Should I just stick with asics for reg. running shoes? Also, in 2 weeks I'll be able to get back in my kayak which is my prefered form of exercise. Will it be OK to combine the C25K days and weight training days? Figuring on 3 days in my boat and 3 days in the gym. Anyway, psyched to be here, and CANNOT believe I actually RAN today [wasn't pretty but got it done].

    unclear on exercising

I am a recovering WoW addict . For the last 2 years I spent 8-10 hours a day on the computer. Now I go to the gym daily! Right now I do the treadmill for an hour [varying the programs], then do Nautilus and some free weights. My Dr said I couldn't do crunches for 6 weeks after surgery, and I have to stay out of my kayak til then also . I too feel a new lease on life. I'm loosing weight, loosing inches, gaining muscle, and having FUN !

    Online calorie tracker??

Another vote for The Daily Plate , not only is it easy to journel your food but it also tracks your exercise. I LOVE seeing my 'net' calories at the end of the day !
  14. While your healing, hard as it is, you pretty much have to ignore the scale. I'd certainly guess some of that weight is related to your cycle. There are lots of mushie recipes here on the forum's I enjoyed re-fried beans with a little cheese, and greek yogurt. Heck greek yogurt is awesome any way you eat it lol. Remember, your healing, don't be too hard on yourself! Eat the right foods, in the right amounts, add some exercise, and the weight is GOING to come off! I have found using The Daily Plate VERY helpful during this healing period. Not only does it track all the food/drink I have in a day but it also tracks my exercise and gives me my gross and net calories for the day. Seeing that Net amount is an awesome motivator for keeping up with your exercise .

    severe bruising...

I'm guessing it's a pretty safe bet it's from the heperin injection you get at surgery time. I also had a HUGE mystery bruise on the lower right of my abdomen. But the nurse had told me the heprin injection is given in the stomach. Other than that I had almost no bruising at all at the other insision sites.
  16. Hiya Loved :-), right now outdoor activity in FL is hard to do if you haven't been doing it. I had my surgery in July '09, and can't be back in my kayak til six weeks after surgery. So I joined the rec center in the city closest to me. It has a really nice weight room with treadmills, eliptical machines, recumbent bikes, nautilus equipment and a TON of free weights. I spend an hr a day there right now. It's fun and comparitively affordable [especially when you compare a regular gym membership]. You might also consider checking out a work-out DVD from your library. Just something to get you started til the cooler weather comes around and you can start your in-line exercise. You can DO it!
  17. Two others things to keep in mind. If you have increased your exercise your adding muscle, it weighs more than fat. Also moving on from liquids adds to the fecal load your carrying :tongue2: [i know ewwwww, but it does add weight]. We're all on a lifetime journey, relax, take a deep breath and have faith that you and the band are partners together to success! :tt2:
  18. My 3 favorite things for the first week after surgery. Benefiber [still my best friend] Cold pack on port site a couple times a day Gas-X strips Like many have stated I was very lucky and had no problems recovering, but since I prefer to avoid pain meds I found the 3 above items allowed me to not use it.

    Who knows about your surgery?

I hope I reach this point Kimaly. Right now I've told my husband, son, brother, and sil. I've become agoraphobic over the last couple years and hope as the weight goes off I'll be more inclined to interact with others.

    Anyone banded on 7/16...

I also had surgery 7/16 . I feel great, just started at the gym this past Monday. Doing 1/2 hr on the treadmill 10-15 min on the recline bike and some light [5pd] weights for arms. Am dying to get back in my kayak! But Dr told me a month til I can paddle again . Have my first post-surgical appt. with Dr on 8/3. Haven't been hungry but OMG do I want to CHEW . Started mushies today .

    Liquid diets and more????

Bill, STOP there's always hope :-). Find a Protein powder you like [probably the largest challenge], find a protein shake [pre-made] you can stand. I like EAS Advantage, I take an Advantage shake put a scoop of protein powder in it and mix, 39gm protein in one easy step :-). For the mushies, get a blender and your trusty micro lol. Micro a bit of fish, blend that with a bit of riccota cheese, a tablespoonful of jarred sauce...BOOM good filling meal. There's tons you can do with just a micro to eat healthy and well with the band, you've just got to exercise your mind. If your surgeons nutritionist isn't very helpful...go to a different nutritionist. There's no reason in the world to not be given the support you need to be successful. If no where else this forum has TONS of helpful information. You will be successful if you WANT it, and learn to work with the band. Much good luck to you on your journey! :tongue2:

    shopping list?

After Gas-x strips my best friend was a cold pack! I used it a couple times a day, mainly on the port incision. Lowered discomfort greatly!

    Emotional teeter totter pre-surg?

I'd think it's a safe bet we all went through this from one extent to another. I know I argued with myself so much I had to send my id to time-out lol. Just come up with a mantra you can repeat when your id starts the arguement 'but do you really....', "YES, I do, I know this is right for me and I'm excited!" :-) Good Luck to you.

Had no problem at all with regular panties. Wore elastic waisted shorts and a t-shirt. Worked as jammies when I got home :-P
