How did I gain so fast?
Daisee68 replied to cuchas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow 14 pounds in 3 days?! Amazing. Don't panic. It's not real weight. Your body is just adjusting. It will go away very quickly. As long as you are following the rules - Protein shakes, Water, etc. - you haven't done anything that could have caused that. -
Welcome. here is another one - http://www.bariatriceating.com/2013/04/16/post-op-help-purees-soft-foods-begin-to-use-protein-for-healing/

Honestly, tell me the truth. NO more Booze or caffinee?
Daisee68 replied to Michelle Tarver's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dealing with the "you can't have" is just part of the process as you prepare your mind. I cited those 2 things specifically for several years as the reason I would never have WLS, but I have finally come to terms with it. As you can see from above, all drs are different and as a general rule it probably just isn't the best choices you can make. I don't drink coffee but had to give up a bad Diet Dr Pepper habit. I think maybe someday I will likely try a soda, but so far, I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would. I am more scared of the pain carbonation would cause me than anything right now. 3 months from now may be a different story, but my therapist keeps reminding me to stay in the present and don't worry about 3 months away for now. Re the alcohol, I do plan to have an occasional drink eventually; however, I do have 2 friends who ended up as alcoholics following surgery -1 of them still drinking even after a revision. The risk of transferring addiction to alcohol is very very real, so I think for most this has to be approached very carefully. Don't let these 2 things scare you off. Once you get there, these 2 items will likely be the least of your concerns. -
I cheated....I'm ashamed
Daisee68 replied to chines66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ugh. Wait I just realized you said Pre-op not post-op. Ok will admit that is harder but same stuff still applies. You don't want them to cancel your surgery. The food is not worth that. This is the hardest part. It will get easier. -

Ok, so definitely don't beat yourself up but learn from it. Understand that this is not about deprivation but truly about your stomach healing at this point. Just like you can't pick up a 20 pound weight 5 days after shoulder surgery, you can't expect your stomach to be healed enough to breakdown food. Now having said that, it is very good news it didn't make you sick (I am assuming). What are you eating? Try lots of variations on shakes. Try lots of broth and drink lots of Water. if you actually feel hungry it could actually be thirst and/or it could be acid reflux (which I read as hunger sometimes). You don't want to undo all the work, so just keep your eye on the prize. You have made it this far. You can get in a few more days. Get some variety in your liquids. That will help. And depending on your surgeon, you may be able to move to mushy foods in a day or 2. (My dr required 15 days but not all do.) -
Peanut butter...oh no!
Daisee68 replied to lucky1gg33's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried PB2? A lot of fat taken out. It would have to be mixed with something to dip apples in but I have been using it in my chocolate Protein shakes and it is WONDERFUL! -

@@Rogofulm - Great list! I concur with many of those (at least those that I have experienced only 15 days post-op)!

Butt hurts when sitting
Daisee68 replied to jmabry's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Well first, congrats on your lost! That is amazing! I am just starting so I don't have that issue but I remember reading someone else on here recently that mentioned it. Something about the difference in not having the same cushion back there. Don't know what to do about it or if it goes away but just thought I would say I don't think you are alone! -
Don't feel like I had surgery
Daisee68 replied to Emmyandlisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt like the same. I am only 15 days out. You shouldn't have dumping this early if you are still drinking fluids only and not drinking anything high sugar. (Someone had to tell me this when I had the same question. ) I hope I never get it but I know some people hope they do. I learned today what eating too much might cause (and managed to stop just before), so trust me once you start with foods, you will know you had surgery. Incidentally I asked my NUT on Wednesday if it was ok that I was drinking 8 oz Fluid per hour on average already and she said that was great as long as it was in sips. The first few days I could only get 4 oz per hour but right about day 8 or 9 it changed. Its a good thing. As long as I don't gulp and wait in between sips, I cannot overfill my pouch. -
@@sparksrn - The only way I have been getting my fluids in is by setting an alarm on my phone to beep at me every 5 minutes to remind me to take a sip. I found an app that reminds me every 15 minutes (and let's me track Fluid intake) in case I have to turn my alarm off for some reason. Including my Protein shakes, I am getting right at 60-64 oz fluid. Today since I had food, I have only had 1 Protein Drink so less fluid today but I have gotten 48 oz so far including a 12 oz shake. You might try something like that to remind you.

Ok, now I had my 2nd meal - Shelly's Ricotta Bake.http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2007/08/pureed-foods.html - O. M. G. If you have not tried this yet, please do. It is basically lasagna without noodles - just a bunch of cheese and marinara sauce. I used all light versions of stuff (i.e. light ricotta, egg whites, etc.) but it was really good and I'm not even a huge fan of Italian food. But when I can finally tolerate it, I am going to try this with spaghetti squash or zuchinni or eggplant. I was only about to eat about 3 tbsp. before I had that full feeling. Well, I am not sure that is exactly what it was. Wasn't a stomach full like was expecting anyway. I just ate tiny bites really slowly and then I felt it sort of tight in my mid-chest behind my sternum. I confess I probably took 2 additional bites after that but finally realized it was worth putting down before it made me sick. I SO want to avoid that but it was hard to put that spoon down. Now I am really starting to understand why the smaller stomach / pouch will help me lose weight. Refried Beans haven't hurt me and that was almost 6 hours ago, so hopefully I am good there. Hoping this one stays down as well. PS - I go back to work Monday. Just didn't want everyone to think I would be posting my every bite! That could be annoying.

I just had my first real food. I woke up hungry this morning for some reason and today was the day to start mushy foods. I had 4 Tbsp (1/4 cup) of fat free refried Beans with 1 tsp of cheese. I took 20 minutes to eat it and no problems with it going down, but I am certainly not full. And at only 6 g Protein I will definitely have to have a shake next - waiting 30 minutes of course. This is going to be hard... I was hoping to be full. Maybe I will try 6 Tbsp (1/3 cup) at lunch and see how that goes. @@scarletwitch19 - I go back to work on Monday and like you will be glad to be back in a routine but it will be very weird to be around people with food. (I live alone so haven't had to deal with that yet.) We already got an email about a holiday party on July 2 with BBQ and I am already dreading what I will eat and what I will say when I can't eat, etc. One day at a time, right?

Maybe they just haven't told you yet because they didn't want you to have to worry about it yet? Do you have a NUT? I would ask them.

What other different foods can we eat? My surgery was 3 months ago but I'm out of ideas plz help

Have you been to this site - http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com ? It has a lot of great recipes. The ones I am looking forward to making are any of the "bites" which are different kinds of little crustless quiches. -
Does anyone have problems feeling like your breathing in dust or smoke?
Daisee68 replied to sparksrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have not had that yet but I will tell you that pre-surgery, I would occasionally smell smoke (I did that for years) and I eventually think I figured out it was related to acid reflux. Are you having heartburn or reflux issues? I also sometimes feel very hungry (or at least I thought I was) when my reflux was bad. -
I had bypass on June 4. Finally get to eat mushy foods tomorrow and I cannot wait! Up to now, pain is manageable but I have absolutely used my pain meds. Of course, I passed 2 kidney stones the first week so that was part of the pain. I did actually feel hunger on Day 6 and 7 (I think) but it wasn't terrible and shakes or SF popsicle take it away. Rough day today emotionally, but feeling better now. I think I am just anxious about eating tomorrow and the potential of getting sick. How are you doing?

Ok. WTF am I doing wrong?
Daisee68 replied to thecakewasalie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@thecakewasalie - I cannot believe this guy! What a jerk! He actually told someone she broke the table?! I would not only report him to ASMBS but also to the hospital and frankly I would make sure to post his name here and leave a review so no one ever uses him. That ticks me off! I was mad enough at him for just telling you he would resleeve you in 2 years instead of helping but the rest of it is even more unacceptable. I am so sorry you had this experience. Unbelievable. Now - having said that, I wonder if you can contact a NUT on your own? The team I use just does the visits over the phone. They don't accept insurance but charge isn't too bad and they have been very helpful. If you would like that contact info, let me know and I will shoot them an email and make sure it is ok to give out their info. (I don't want to post it here until I have their approval.) In the meantime, there are some good handbooks on the internet that I have found - even though I had a good one to start with. My Bariatric Solutions in Texas has very good material which you can download and save to your computer. Several of the hospitals have good info you can download. Google "gastric sleeve handbook". But honestly most important is finding a NUT you can work with - and make sure they are someone that works with bariatric patients. You might even check in to local hospitals that have bariatric programs and see if they have an RD on staff that can refer you. -
OOh I cannot wait! My day 15 is tomorrow and I think I am having refried Beans for breakfast!

You poor thing! An entire year! Wow. Take heart. you are almost there!

what foods are you all eating 2 months post RNY?
Daisee68 replied to MamaDDDD's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Gosh sorry you are having that trouble! I start mushy foods tomorrow and having some anxiety about that. My NUT gave me the following suggestions (which I suppose you have already tried?) - no sugar added applesauce, refried Beans with lowfat cheese melted on top, no sugar greek yogurt, Protein pudding (mix Protein powder with milk first then add to powdered no sugar pudding), etc. Have you been to http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com ? She has a lot of great recipes. I'm definitely going to try the ricotta bake ASAP. PS Call your NUT! -

Two weeks post-op today. Has really been going well, but for some reason, I am having a very emotional day today - I can't stop crying (and I haven't cried since well before my surgery!). Not sure what is wrong (other than maybe a little work stress as I am working from home and had a stressful day yesterday). I return to work (my actual desk) on Monday. I start mushy foods tomorrow and scared about getting sick. Not sure if that is what is adding to the emotions, but need some reminders that this was a good decision and I shouldn't regret it. I emailed my counselor (who I will see next Tuesday) and she is just reminding me to stay in the present and not think about the long road ahead. (FYI, its not hormones - I had a hysterectomy nearly 2 years ago). Help (and thank you). -
