Bounce Back After Surgery
Daisee68 replied to missykrissy79's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't have any advice at all. Can you not tolerate Protein shakes? How about getting some Zofran from your dr for the nausea? Not helpful I know. Just wanted to say sorry you are going through this. -
Stupid pain that wont go away
Daisee68 replied to Darkplaces's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Is there any chance it is kidney stone? I ask because have a chronic issue with them (pre WLS) and sometimes I will get pain way up high like almost to my shoulder blade. My drs say no way it is kidney stone and then sure enough a week or so later, I will pass one. They need to do a sonogram or X-ray (if u do suspect kidney stone). Good luck. So sorry u r dealing with this. So frustrating trying to convince drs you know your body better than they do. -

If this Dr won't listen, get a 2ND opinion. I know how hard that seems to do but we're it me in oak. For 4 months already, not sure I'd want to wait another 7 weeks. -
Day 3 Pre-op liquid diet
Daisee68 replied to checkmeowt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This should be your last really bad day (hopefully). Promise it gets better! Hang in there! -
I just made a new treat I thought I would share. I used 1/4 cup of 0% Fage and 1 tsp of sugar free Fat Free Jello Cheesecake pudding (mix only) and 1 tsp of Torani Sugar Free Raspberry Syrup. It was pretty good and 6g of Protein. It came out really thick, so I might use a little less of the pudding mix next time. Just thought I would share

Ooh @@Djmohr that sounds wonderful! Gotta keep that one around to try soon! @@heynowkc I don't really have a recipe (though I feel like I used to). I know you don't cook it. You just use a large flat pan and then I was just going to layer fat free refried Beans on the bottom, then a layer of sour cream (or maybe Greek yogurt - maybe even mix with taco seasoning?), then a layer of guacamole (which I probably will just use plain avocados pureed with lime and some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt and cilantro), and then a layer of pico de gallo (chopped up onions and tomatoes which I will have to pick off), then a layer of 2% Shredded Sharp (or Mexican blend) cheese, then topped with a layer of finely chopped black olives. Hmm, that is only 6 layers. Not sure what I am missing. I think sometimes there are also jalapenos but not quite brave enough to try that yet. Actually I found this receipe. So kinda like this - https://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/RecipePage.aspx?recipeid=57861 Normally served with torilla chips, but I won't be able to do that yet, so I will just eat with a fork with my (hopefully) moist shredded chicken. But it would be good in tortillas (maybe whole wheat ones?) or even in just a lettuce cup (if you can eat raw vegetables yet which I can't). Hope that helps! I am not necessarily a good cook - just a good assembler of foods.

You know my mom just suggested making a kind of 7 layer dip for me that I should be able to eat still - or at least part of with my chicken - fat free refried Beans, low fat sour cream, avacados, 2% cheese, etc. Not sure I can eat the onions, tomatoes and olives yet but I can pick those off. All soft enough for me to eat. I saw on Eggface website that she used a dip like this as leftovers wrapped inside a piece of deli meat instead of a tortilla or taco shell. I haven't tried deli meat yet (I'm 4 weeks post-op today and I am still a little scared of deli meat. Worried it might be too stringy for me to chew up correctly?)
-
So I finally start mushy foods on Friday. CAN. NOT. WAIT! I think I am going to try fat free refried Beans with cheese first! I have been craving it for 3 weeks. I am terrified of dumping. Have obviously not had the issue on liquids. My question is - will I know pretty immediately after trying a food if that is not going to be right for me? (Does that question make sense? i.e. should I stay close to home the first few days and/or anytime I try something new?) Secondly, I know we should add foods slowly so we know which food it is that causes issues but is that like only trying 1 new item per day or just 1 item per each time I eat?

2-3 weeks out, What are you eating?
Daisee68 replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@freelee - I had RNY on June 4. I was allowed pureed foods on June 15 and I made the Ricotta Bake that day for lunch. It is really good but I do fill up on it fairly quick. I do love fat free refried Beans and tolerate them well (as long as I don't eat it too fast which I made the mistake of doing yesterday). I add in a little greek yogurt to make it a little creamier and then some spices like cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and cilantro. Really hope my "incident" yesterday doesn't turn me off of the beans because I did really enjoy them. I have tried scrambled eggs twice and while I tolerate them ok, I just don't really like them. I have always eaten eggs with salsa and just haven't been adventurous enough to do that yet. I can only eat about 1/2 the egg before I am just done. I have also tolerated pimento cheese very well. I saw a recipe where someone mixed unflavored Protein powder with the light mayo and then mixed in the cheese and pimentos but I admit I just bought the premade one and haven't added any Protein Powder to it yet. (I tried that with mashed potatoes and it was awful. I clearly made it wrong.) I have also tolerated hummus quite well. Still experimenting with everything. I am not an overly adventurous eater in the first place, so trying to take it slow. Oh, I also had some tortilla soup with a little bit of chicken chewed really well and some avocado. All went fine with that too. Having people over for the holiday and plan on trying some chicken thighs cooked in the crockpot in broth (and lime and garlic and cilantro) and hoping it will be moist enough for me to try it. I won't be able to eat much but I think it will make me feel more "normal" like my guests. -
2-3 weeks out, What are you eating?
Daisee68 replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On the pureed stage I find I am having getting meals with much Protein. I will still have to have shakes (for a long time it seems). If you haven't checked out TheWorldAccordingToEggface website, be sure to do so. She has a recipe for Ricotta Bake that is basically a noodleless / meatless lasagna kind of thing. It was one of the first things I ate and it tasted SO good. Has some pretty good protein count due to the cheeses. -
I'm thinking of making Cilantro Lime chicken in the crockpot. http://www.thehouseofhendrix.com/recipes/crockpot-cilantro-lime-chicken/ If I make it with chicken thighs, I am hoping it will be moist enough for me to at least try.

@@megieg - did you find anything else out about whether your dr sent all the paperwork or not? Fingers crossed for you!

This may not be the most popular reply and I am very early out - 4 weeks tomorrow - but right now I have a bit of buyers remorse. I know things will get better and I hope to be able to come back here in a couple of months and say no regrets, but don't fool yourself, THIS IS HARD. And no matter how much I read about it, I still wasn't prepared. This feeling of buyers remorse is very normal I am told. And the first couple if weeks weren't so bad but at 4 weeks in I am a bit overwhelmed with following all the rules and thinking about following all the rules at every moment of every day. I don't want this to deter anyone from the WLS path; I just wanted to say it's not all roses in the beginning. This too shall pass...

Best protein shakes!
Daisee68 replied to alisawoo22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto for Premier Protein. I had been drinking the chocolate and didn't think I would like the vanilla but I actually do. I actually add a little Salted Caramel sugar free Syrup (by Torani) and it is SO good. To make my own shakes, I use Precision Engineering Whey Protein Isolate in Chocolate and like it quite well. For unflavored, I use a new one that my NUT recommended called Doc Hale's Whey-licious (only available online I think). Best part is it can be mixed in as little as 3 oz of Fluid which really helps early on post-op when you can't get much in. I mix it with 3 oz of Propel Fitness Water berry flavored and it tastes fine to me. (I mean not something I crave for sure but doesn't taste that bad and quickly gets me 20g of protein with only 90 calories. I also use this when I am just running short on protein for the day as it is fast. At 4 weeks post-op, it still takes me at least an hour to drink one of the Premier Protein Shakes which is 11 oz. -

How overcome a strain back?
Daisee68 replied to tiger2015's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh that stinks! Ice, heat, massage, chiropractic care? Those are the things I turn to when I do it - especially now that we aren't supposed to take Advil, Aleve, etc. Hope it gets better soon! -
The same thing happened to me - but I am only 3 1/2 weeks out so I figured it just was me not eating well enough. The first time with tuna and it was my first try at it, so I thought I just didn't tolerate it well. Today I had refried Beans at lunch which I have eaten a lot of times without issue but maybe I ate too fast or didn't chew it well enough? (I had changed brands and noticed they were not mashed as well as the previous brand I used.) Anyway, vomiting at work then left to drive home and had to pull over in a parking lot. Same as you - food but mostly mucous. I just had a very small amount of Soup for dinner and everything seems fine, so I will chalk mine up to eating too fast and not chewing and just keep an eye on it. I hope yours never happens again!

By any chance do you know if the blood work surgeon does includes Thyroid panel? Only reason I ask is that sometimes surgery can affect thyroid (I think) and it might be worth checking out. Congrats on your weight loss! -
@@mlilwood - I have Cigna not BCBS but my program specifically stated: "Programs such as Weight Watchers® , Jenny Craig® and Optifast® are acceptable alternatives if done in conjunction with the supervision of a physician or registered dietician and detailed documentation of participation is available for review. However, physician-supervised programs consisting exclusively of pharmacological management are not sufficient to meet this requirement." Not saying necessarily that BCBS requires same, but your post caught my attention and I would hate for you to go through everything and then get denied. You might ask BCBS for a copy of their specific medical coverage details - or ask that question specifically to BCBS not just the surgeon's office. Not trying to be bossy - just thought I would throw in my 2 cents!

BariActiv chewable multivitamins - strong reaction (empty stomach?)
Daisee68 replied to no onions's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take BariActiv and haven't had an issue except I got way too full too fast when I tried to take it before eating and then ate on top of it. Since then I only take it after I eat. Sorry you are having trouble with them but sounds like you aren't the only one! -
I am so sorry! Don't give up! My surgeon had to do peer to peer to get my sleep study approved. Basically the surgeon has to talk to the medical director at Cigna to discuss and then the surgeon's office should resubmit the paperwork. First thing I would do is call the surgeon's office and ask if they sent those papers. If not, it may be that they can easily resubmit that without peer to peer. Stay on your surgeon's office to get that done and if phone call still needed, find out what day and time so you can follow up to see what the outcome was. I know it seems devastating but it's not over yet. Good luck!! Hang in there!
