    Eating before its time ..

Hmm. Well that is frustrating. How far out are you again?

    Eating before its time ..

@@lachellove it is probably because you aren't getting enough protein also. Did your NUT ever call you back about adding protein shakes?

    Share your profession

Commercial insurance - specifically oil & gas companies. Yep. I know your jealous...????. Wish I had done something more noble and worthwhile for humanity like most of you have!

    Day 3 post op

I know it seems crummy now but Day 3 to maybe 5 is really the worst. Keep taking the Zofran and do not get dehydrated. Use a medicine cup (or shot glass) and set a timer and sip tiny amounts (1/3rd of the medicine cup) every 5 minutes. That will get you 4 ounces per hour. You don't have to do it all day but try it for a couple of hours at a time. It is the only way I could keep from getting dehydrated. Promise it gets better! You just have to sort of endure the first couple of weeks. Congrats!! And good luck!
  5. Gas-X strips or chewables help a lot! Walking and heating pad. Congrats!

I did not have this test

    Nausea, pain

Try a heating pad on your back also. Sometimes that eases the gas pain.

    I'm afraid!

Totally normal fears. Exact same thing happened to me and I said I would not be pursuing RNY. That was January. i am not (almost) 11 weeks post-op RNY. It did take me a while to come around to it. Don't count it out yet. Read a lot of posts. Read some books (The big book of gastric bypass from this site is very helpful.) I still have some acid reflux but hoping it goes away soon. It does keep making me wonder how much worse it would have been with sleeve though. I'm really glad I did RNY (and oddly I was JUST thinking that on the way home!). As far as it being more invasive, I hear that argument a lot but just a reminder in sleeve, they completely remove from your body part of your stomach and it cannot be put back. Sounds pretty invasive to me. (At the very least certainly no less invasive than the RNY.) Good luck! You are the only one that can make the decision but just take a week or so to think about it before making a definitive decision.
  9. You are in the dreaded 3 week stall. It's totally normal. Your body is catching up. There are a ton of posts about this stall so if you search for "stall" under the forums you will see you aren't alone. Hang in there and be patient. Take your measurements. Sometimes you are losing inches when scale is not moving.

    My stage 2 is different

Right??!! Just so strange.... I am so curious what she tells you about this stage... You know I just remembered about a dr that gives lectures and records on YouTube that isn't a big fan of shakes. Or I think you can go to his website - drmatthewweiner.com or you might be able to google it. Maybe it will give you some good ideas while you wait for your NUT to call back? (I haven't watched it in a while so I don't quite remember so don't judge me if it is bad info. )

    My stage 2 is different

Yes, but I have had a bit of trouble with it and have stuck with pureed mostly for quite a while and I just cannot eat enough to ever get 80g + of Protein I am supposed to get. I am still (usually) using 2 Protein shakes a day. It is getting a little better everyday (though today wasn't a great day), but I know it will get better. I think a lot of my issue is eating too fast or not chewing enough so I end up getting sick. Still I can only eat about 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup at a time (depending on what it is) but if it is meat like chicken or turkey, I'm only getting about an ounce at a time which is only 7 or 8 g at each meal so clearly not enough. I eat a lot of dairy - yogurt, cheese, etc. but even then I increase that with Protein powder when I can. I don't know that I am normal though so don't be worried that is how it will be for you!

    My stage 2 is different

Hmm. Yep. Agree it is strange. Glad you are doing ok without! This is the first day in 12 weeks I have gone without a shake. It feels quite strange like surely I have forgotten something important.

    My stage 2 is different

@@lachellove - any word from your NUT today? Been thinking about you. I got my day all messed up because I had to fast for labs and then they had it wrong and had to go somewhere else, blah blah blah. Anyway, I felt awful all day and was never able to get a shake in (yet anyway) and just kept thinking I wasn't sure how you were getting through without them!
  14. So dr decided I need to get CT scan to check for internal hernia and / or gallbladder issues following a severe pain incident last week. I just made the appt and i have to drink 32 oz of "dye" before the scan. They usually ask you to come an hour early but said to come 1 1/2 hours early. I am assured the liquid is quite thin (not like the barium junk I had to do pre-op). Anyone have any experience with this and can soothe my fears of getting this in? I am 8 weeks post-op today and when I am intentionally trying, I can get 16 oz of water down in an hour. Just not sure I can do 32 oz....
  15. I am just over 9 weeks out and just FINALLY feeling better and feel like I am turning a corner. (No vomiting in 8 days! YAY!) I had quite a bit of trouble with meats but likely because I wasn't chewing enough or eating too much so I have stayed with very soft foods that I knew I could tolerate and with that I don't feel like I am making the healthiest choices - just been focused on getting any food down and keeping it there and learning to stop when satisfied, eat slowly, etc. I am consuming around 500-600 calories per day with 80-90g Protein (thanks to shakes). I am not crazy about cooked mushy vegetables though I do like raw veggies but I know my system is not quite ready to tolerate them. I do love fruit - especially berries but I know I am not quite ready for those either. I have had a small bit of banana a few times (in a shake) and a peach slice (in Water no sugar added) and tolerated both very well. For what it's worth, I am getting in about 1/4 to 1/3 cup per meal which is pretty much 2 Tbsp (1/2 ounce) of meat (shaved turkey or tilapia) and then another 2 to 3 Tbsp of cheese usually. (Most of my protein is coming from dairy - cheese, yogurt, etc.) I did successfully eat 1/2 a Quest bar today for Breakfast for the first time and I was very happy about that! I sure wish I could move on to nuts and Jerky but not confident I will chew it will enough yet to tolerate it. Oh and I have had scrambled eggs but honestly I just don't like them that much unless they have salsa on them. (Seem to be handling spicy just fine.) I was only able to eat about 1/4 of the egg before I just couldn't get in anymore. (Cold eggs are even nastier than hot eggs and eating a small bite every 90 seconds or so gets the eggs cold very quick!) I have a meeting with NUT on Monday but was wondering if anyone had suggestions that I might ask her if I can progress to. I think she has told me a few more weeks at least before raw veggies (never craved cucumber so much in my life! ) I am not frustrated or bored with my food choices at all. Not struggling with head hunger. Just wanting to make sure I am really working on healthy food choices in addition to very tiny food choices....
  16. Sorry to ramble about my food. I just get so excited when I can try something new and healthy and tolerate it!

    back in the hospital

Yikes! That stinks! Hope they can get you fixed and on the road to recovery soon!
  18. I finally got some veggies / fruit I have been craving. I had frozen berries and frozen mango in my Protein shake. It was a little too much carb probably (27g yikes!) but got some Fiber in which I am hoping helps other problems . It was 1 cup of fruit (and with Water not milk - my NUT says only milk OR fruit - not together because of the sugars). I already emailed my NUT to ask if 27g was too much and got a response back! (My team is so awesome!) She said cut it down a little next time and try to shoot for 15g sugar. But good news is it didn't make me sick! (I live in fear of new foods making me sick which I know is crazy.) Anyway, then I had chicken salad with diced pickles for lunch AND no issues! And now for dinner, I had some deli turkey, cheese and FINALLY those darn cucumbers I have been craving! (Well I guess technically I had cucumber at lunch with I had the dill pickle relish in my chicken salad.) So far so good but it has only been about 15 minutes since I finished. Sure hope it settles well because I really like the freshness of cucumbers. I think I might even put them in my water tomorrow with a little lemon or something.

    My stage 2 is different

@@lachellove - I'm sorry it is so confusing. You have enough to deal with without this confusion! Wait until tomorrow and then make sure when you call you tell them it is urgent so they call you back! Lots of programs are different, so maybe there is a reason behind it. Hopefully you can sleep well and will get answers tomorrow! HUGS!

    Not losing!

Have you talked to your NUT? That would be my next step - with copies of your food logs.
  21. Daisee68

    Not losing!

Hang in there. You may have more swelling than the first time WLS patient. Stall is normal around week 3 and 4. Are you tracking your food and Fluid intake? How much Protein and fluid are you getting? Maybe call your NUT and show them your food logs and see what they can suggest?
  22. Luck!! Totally normal emotions! See you on the loser's bench! You got this!

    My stage 2 is different

My point maybe I should call my nut and see what's going on. Yes I think I would. Maybe (hopefully) they just didn't explain correctly? Protein is needed to heal so I don't know how you can go without it. Good luck! Let us know what they say!
  24. Daisee68

    My stage 2 is different

Hmm. That is strange. So how are you supposed to get protein? Hopefully someone else who had a similar plan will weigh in. Sorry I couldn't help!
  25. Daisee68

    My stage 2 is different

This is pretty common. It's just called different things. You should be able to have Protein shakes, right? That should make up a lot of your intake at this point. Be sure the soups are strained / thinned out a little bit. No chunks at all (some soups have chunks). Blend them if you have to in order to get the chunks out. Otherwise, just keep doing what you have been - Protein Shakes, broths, sugar free popsicles, etc. I know it is tough but it will be over soon. You just have to power through it. Pureeds will be here soon and trust me you will welcome it!
