Yep. Mirena hurt but only briefly. If you can stand it, it is worth it.
-
At least one night after you are home then you should be fine after that. My mom stayed with me the one night in the hospital then 1 night at home and ideas ready for her to go! ????

Cigna approved mine very quickly. Submitted Friday at noon and approval by Monday morning. Just make sure you have everything including letter of recommendation for surgery from someone other than your surgeon.

First hang up - sleep study
Daisee68 replied to ange117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I had my study earlier this year, I had previously been trying to set up the test through the hospital and she told me lots of insurance companies were moving towards the at-home sleep studies as much as they could get away with it. Apparently the sleep lab test are very expensive so as typical with insurance, anything to save money.... -
First hang up - sleep study
Daisee68 replied to ange117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@ange117 - Yep. Same thing happened to me. The insurance required a peer to peer with my surgeon which she did over the phone and then insurance approved at-home study only - which was fine with me. Much easier than sleeping in an unfamiliar place. I had no apnea (as I told my dr before the test but whatever). Just stay in touch with your dr office to see what they are doing next and making sure the peer to peer gets done so you can the test. PS - Are you SURE you aren't having some daytime sleepiness..... -
@@Indieflickers - I too am still pretty tired but I know it is my thyroid. It was high at my 3 month checkup so they adjusted med but only a little and it is taking too long to catch up! At least I hope that is what it is and I won't be this tired forever....

I also ate mine with a spoon early on and then also used it as a dip to keep my meats moist going down. I love hummus. There is a recipe on here somewhere for chicken bake covered in hummus. I gotta find that and try it...

I am a bit of a broken record with this, but have you had your thyroid checked? And what about acid reflux? Both of those issues have caused me to have hunger (or hunger feeling) in the past. For what it's worth, my NUT says 1000-1200 calories would be maintenance. I think that is too low personally but I am only 4 months out, so I don't know for sure for a while.

Toothache / Ibuprofen
Daisee68 replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great suggestions guys! Why didn't I think of Oragel or cold compress?! You will be happy to know that I did not take it. I took Tylenol and went to bed. Jaws are still sore today but not as bad as yesterday. Think I will try the Oragel and the cold compress after dinner. Thanks everyone! I have an appt with my PCP tomorrow and may ask what solutions there might be other than NSAIDs for that next headache or toothache - preferably non-narcotic. -
First, I have had the same issues with some if my doctors. My endocrinologist was all for it but he studies weight/metabolism/hormone issues (not to mention treated me for diabetes). He has been very supportive. My other doctors aren't as educated in that specific area. Second, I was just thinking about the whole "can't u just eat right" comments. And almost 4 months in, here is what I decided. I am eating right now but without the surgery, I just couldn't sustain on this low calories. Iowa's so hungry and would go to bed hungry. (I'm talking my stomach growling hungry). With the surgery, I am not hungry and WHILE I am learning new habits and getting my body out of the heavy carbs cravings, I am able to lose weight which then encourages me to stay on track and lose more. It is a tool and if u do not use it correctly, it will not work but if u treat it as the tool it is and then use that time to get healthy with a NUT and therapist, then it gives u the time u need to get it done and get to the maintenance faster using the tools u learned along the way.

Best Friend... Not so much
Daisee68 replied to kranky813's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same thing here. And honestly I knew before I told her what she would say. The thing is, as someone who has never struggled with her weight, I think she just flat doesn't get it. It just makes no sense at all to her. Maybe that is the same with your friend? Or maybe you always spent time with her over a meal or drinks? I know I did previously and we are really having to adjust to spend time together not over a meal or at least over a healthy meal. Hopefully she will come around. Very good for you for standing up for yourself and your relationship and telling her she has to support you. Maybe that will sink in and things will get better.... -
Thank you surgeon, without being cliche
Daisee68 replied to little_mrs's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have thought about same thing. I think a card / letter would be welcome by them. -
@@Sophie74656 - I disagree. Addiction is fully treatable if a person wants to treat it. I have been seeing a therapist to treat this and will continue to do so for at least 2 years post-op constantly dealing with this. The problem is people think WLS "fixes" everything and you have to remember that it is just a tool to help you lose while you are getting healthy in other ways by seeing nutritionist and therapist.

Gallbladder sludge preop, removal or not?
Daisee68 replied to ange117's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My surgeon didn't even check it - I guess since no symptoms? My insurance specifically states it won't cover removal of gallbladder if not "medically necessary", so they wouldn't automatically do it. have had some symptoms since so I really wish it had been at least checked before my surgery. -
Decaf green tea. I buy different flavors from Republic of Teas. I love the Ginger Peach. I usually steep it for a minute in hot Water then pour it over ice and add water. I also like Orange Crush Water Enhancer (stick of powder like Crystal Light). Powerade Zero occasionally. Sometimes I squirt a little lime juice in my water but yea I am definitely sick of water....

Dr Supervised Diet - Nutrition Visits
Daisee68 replied to Susan66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hmmm.... I don't think so. I only met with my NUT. I had to get a letter from my PCP (or doctor other than surgeon) recommending me for the surgery. You might need to get your surgeon's office and/or your insurance to clarify for you. I had Cigna. -
Welcome! Not sure how those with surgery from Mexico handle their supplements. I got a prescription from my dr for Nascobal which is a nasal B12 spray and they also send you the supplements. It is REALLY expensive and even though my insurance covers it, I am considering changing to an over the counter supplement at the end of the year when my insurance starts over. Do you meet with a nutrionist? I recommend you find one stateside that you can check in with if your surgeon doesn't have that post-op after care. The surgeon or NUT should state at least what you need but really important to get follow up labs from your PCP here. Even with the recommended doses, after my first labs, we made some adjustments. Hopefully bumping this post op will get some other folks who had surgery in Mexico to weigh in. BUT bottom line is you do not have to buy the brand the dr sells. You just need to get equivalent somehow.

Lots of posts about Cigna if you do a search. I have them and my surgery was covered; however, the customer service told me about 50% of their plans do and 50% don't. It depends on the employer / purchaser of the insurance and whether or not they specifically excluded bariatric surgery. If your specific plan does cover it, then it is 3 months pre-op diet requirement, letter from Primary Care doctor (or doctor other than surgeon), over 40 BMI or over 35 BMI with co-morbidities. This link might be helpful if your plan does cover it: https://cignaforhcp.cigna.com/public/content/pdf/coveragePolicies/medical/mm_0051_coveragepositioncriteria_bariatric_surgery.pdf

Weight gain 4 yrs post rny
Daisee68 replied to queenbug's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Have you worked with a therapist in the past? I know the one I see specifically works with post-op patients who have gained weight (in addition to pre-op and initial post-op like me). You might seek that out.... -
When don't start adding....
Daisee68 replied to christinekerib's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Be really careful with nuts. Specifically peanuts. They don't really digest and I didn't chew them well enough and got a small piece stuck (and that was at 3 months). Now it got stuck because I had a stricture but my Dr said not nuts. I was confused because I thought it was a good protein source but now I think I will just avoid.
