Insurance gave Dr wrong coverage info?!
Daisee68 replied to jenjackson's topic in Insurance & Financing
I am so sorry this is happening! You are on the right track with an appeal and an attorney. Good luck! Hang in there! Hugs! -
Time off work? One week? More?
Daisee68 replied to itstimealready's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Dub I took 2 1/2 weeks and wished I had taken at least 3 (though I did work from home most of that time) and I didn't have the hernia repairs. Remember it is not just pain or exhaustion, it is getting used to your new way of life - sipping, shakes, eating tiny amounts, walking, etc. I have no idea how these people go back after a few days but more power to them or maybe they just don't have a choice. No need to be a hero if you can get the time off. I would plan at least 3 weeks. If you can get 4 without hassle, I would ask for that and you can always go back early if you are feeling up to it. -
Bucket list of things to do after weight loss...
Daisee68 replied to whisper43's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
OK not sure this is really bucket list but I thought of 2 more things I cannot wait for - 1) my shirts to be small enough to stop slipping off the dang hangers because the neck is too big and 2) to be able to wear heels. It's not that my feet don't fit. It's just that those shoes aren't built to hold so much weight so they get a bit wobbly. Can't wait for non-wobbly high heels! ????. #fatgirlproblems -
Did a stupid thing last night, scared myself
Daisee68 replied to Margie122's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some of us'll are lucky folks. I have vomited more in the last 4 months than in my whole life combined! No exaggeration. Of course it turned out mostly to be a stricture and I successfully went 5 weeks without vomiting until last Friday after first try at salmon. Not sure what went wrong but I will definitely NOT be trying salmon again anytime soon.... ???? -
I don't want to eat chemicals...
Daisee68 replied to Ashlegal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@James Marusek - Thanks for posting this. I think your statement about things changing at 1 year post-op makes a lot of sense and I hadn't thought about it before but it just hit me that of course that makes sense! I had rotator cuff surgery 5 years ago and my shoulder hurt for nearly a year and then like magic, I was back to normal. So it makes sense to me that my stomach and intestines would also "heal" fully around a year out. I don't know why this gives me such comfort but it does! You always have such great practical and logical advice. I so appreciate you! Apologies to @@Ashlegal for hijacking your post! I understand your frustration but there are quite a few people on here who talk about "clean" eating, so I do think you will be able to get back to that stage eventually. You just have to make some sacrifices in the meantime while your body heals. -
It drives me crazy still! It actually woke me up in the middle of the night what time! Scared the heck out of me!

What's normal for 7.5 weeks out
Daisee68 replied to lachellove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Someone told you wrong about fluids. Powerade Zero, propel water, etc DO count as fluids. As long as you are getting 64 oz of that, you are fine. In fact at your point, I think I was only getting 50 - 55 oz. If you are trying to drink those things plus 64oz of water, no wonder you are frustrated. -
Transitioning between diet phases
Daisee68 replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@gpmed - Glad it helped! I had a few food dreams too! Wake up scared to death I ate potato chips and drank a soda! Oh and once you get to solid food, the Protein gets a lot easier too, but again I just asked my NUT maybe 2 weeks ago, if it is was ok for me to still be drinking 2 shakes a day if I needed to get to my goal and she said absolutely and as long as I was still getting some protein with my food and not a lot of carbs. -
Transitioning between diet phases
Daisee68 replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@gpmed - I did find the 30/30 rule very overwhelming in the beginning but it does get easier. I did not follow it with shakes (per my NUT) though she did tell me to not mix the two. in other words, just drink your shake and then when you are done, have other liquids. Eventually I settled on not necessarily waiting 30 minutes after drinking before I ate. I always wait at least 15 minutes and sometime it is 30, but that one rule particularly overwhelmed me. (I am not saying do what I do, but that did help me relax.) I set a timer for 30 minutes on my phone after I finish eating and don't drink until the timer goes off, so I do stick with that rule. I probably only eat 3 to 4 times per day and have 1 shake per day. It is what works for me and I am able to get my Protein to at least 80 grams that way. I use Premier Protein ready to drink shakes or Precision Engineered powder both of which have 30 grams of protein so that helps a lot. (By the way, if you haven't read this yet - your body only absorbs 25g to 30g per hour so it won't do any good to add a bunch of protein or drink one of those protein shots.) If you can add unflavored Protein Powder to any of your food, that helps too (though I don't do that much anymore). If you like milk, you can also drink some skim milk in between meals which will get you fluids and protein at the same time. (Try Fairlife milk if you haven't. It is very good with more protein and less carbs.) I can promise your NUT nor surgeon expect you to get to your protein goals every day at this point. It will come in time. Just keep focusing on it. Hope that helps a little. I have only recently sort of settled in to not being so overwhelmed with the rules so don't feel bad. -
Favorite protein bars...
Daisee68 replied to kanaud's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I prefer Quest for what you get. I like Premier Protein but they are pretty high calorie and carb. http://shop.premierprotein.com/Premier-Protein-Dark-Chocolate-Mint-Bar--30g/p/PREM-000563&c=PremierProtein@Bars -
What's normal for 7.5 weeks out
Daisee68 replied to lachellove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a hard time at that point all the way through 3 months when they finally figured out I had a stricture. Are you able to keep food and liquids down? -
I asked that question on my first visit. I had a 3 month pre-op diet like you. They told me 5 months. My first consult was January 26 and my surgery was June 4 just over 4 months.

You may need a prescription PPI (i.e. Pantoprozole). Surprised your doctor didn't give you a prescription for that. Call your surgeon tomorrow and get that. It will take a week or so to work but should help. You should be able to also take Pepcid in the meantime (but ask dr to be sure).

What comes after clear liquids?!?!

Yes you should be able to add pudding, yogurt and some cream soups. -
Transitioning between diet phases
Daisee68 replied to gpmed's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 months post op and still drinking at least 1 if not 2 shakes per day. Lots of people a year out drink at least 1 shake a day, so do not feel bad about still doing that. It takes a LONG time to get to where you need to be with Protein from food and very few get there during pureeds (I certainly didn't). -
Sounds like it could be acid reflux. Are you taking a daily med for that?
-
I found Senokot-s (1 tablet) with 2 Vivace tablets work for me and I don't necessarily have to take them everyday

Motion Sickness Question
Daisee68 replied to DangerMouse007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was just thinking about you and wondering if you made it home OK. Glad you did! Maybe call Dr for a different solution for the longer travel time coming? The transderm patch mentioned above seems like a good bet! -
Try swimsuitsforall.com. they have plus size and have some good clearance prices especially if you buy the separates
-
Sorry u r sick. No fun. Go back to basics. Use a 1 of medicine cup and sip 1/2 of it every ,5 minutes (set a timer). Do that for an hour and several tines a day. Do the same with some protein shakes. Keep your protein up and gets liquids in at the same time. Hope the antibiotic works fast!
-
It is probably actually acid reflux. If you don't have a daily med for that prescribed, ask your surgeon for one or ask if you can take one over the counter like Zantac or Pepcid

Not following my surgeons recommendations....
Daisee68 replied to c1973d's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sounds pretty good to me and I DID have bypass! How annoying that he can't get that right! Read your dang notes! What if there was something else really important you needed him to remember? Dr's get on my last nerve sometimes! I know they can't remember all of us, but that's why there is a medical file.... -

So glad you are feeling better! -
@@quevedo05 - I made the same mistake but better to start somewhere as you said. Try on a pair of pants from pre-op. You will see your body has changed.
