    Food packing for Vacation

I am getting ready to do same and often have to pack some snacks for times away with my nephews for soccer tournaments. So I pack my snacks I. Snack size bags and then put them all in one big ziploc. I pack 1 oz portions of beef jerky (love Leave brand as it is very tender), cashews and Quest bars. If I am going to have ability to refrigerate, I take the 2% Cracker Barrel sharp cheddar cheese bars (3/4 oz) and Premier Protein ready made drinks and yogurt. I will be going to Mexico on vacation soon and won't be able to take the liquids, so I am going to put a scoop of Protein. powder in ags to take with me to mix with water. It doesn't taste as great mixed with water but I know it will make sure to get my protein in. Will be interested to see others suggestions.

    Sweet Tooth

@@princesswarrior - I have and they are very good but they are much higher calories & carbs than the Quest bars, so I try to avoid them. The chocolate mint and chocolate Peanut Butter are the ones I have tried.
  3. Did you have sleeve or bypass? You say "pouch" so I am assuming bypass? If so, I am 8 months post-op and just recently increased my calorie intake to 900-1000. Before that, I was closer to 800 for several months. As @@JamieLogical Protein, carb, fat makeup is more important really than calories. I am for 30g fat, 75g carbs and 105g protein (which totals 990 calories). Sometimes I am over in one category (generally fat) and lower in others but my protein is ALWAYS greater than carbs.
  4. I am so sorry you are getting responses like that! I told everyone about my surgery (seriously, I am a talker and tell EVERYONE - 2 perfect strangers while shopping today for example). I have been very lucky not to experience negative talk. They may be doing it behind my back, but what I don't know can't hurt me. Having said that, my very first thought when I read what people have said to you is that I would have told them to F*(! off. Seriously do not understand why people feel the need to give their opinion on this rather than encouragement or just silence. "You're better than that" really ticks me off. How dare they?! I don't have any advice at all. I just wanted to say I feel righteous indignation on your behalf!

    Hungry after bypass

It could be acid reflux which can mimic hunger feelings. Are you taking a PPI? If not, try Zantac. It helps.

    Alcoholism & WLS

It can be a transfer addiction for many people. Your Dr just wanted you to be aware of it.
  7. Daisee68

    Did I hear her right?

@@sassyfrass23 - Congrats!! It is the beginning for a new life for you! For what it's worth, I had bypass and only stayed in the hospital one night (barely 24 hours), so unless your surgeon is just very very cautious, you could get to go home after only 1 night!

    Transfer Addiction: Fashion

Oh mine may very well be an addiction.... And I have bought and worn more jewelry too! I never used to even bother with earrings and now I don't leave the house without earrings, necklace, watch and bracelet. I still have at least one more closet clean out too but for now I am well stocked - for winter that is. Watch out summer time clothing!

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

@@reree6898 & @@Babbs - I was thinking the same thing about the results! Well at least on the girl. Not as much on the guy. Those surgeons definitely need to work on contouring / sculpting.
  10. @@Elode -- I want to know what that "best answer" thing is too. I have seen it (albeit rarely) on a few other posts and often though that no, in fact, that was not the best answer. Maybe @AlexBrecher can tell us.

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

RIght? I mean why would that guy go from MI to Austin, TX for surgeons who clearly are not experts as this? And did you just see his stomach which he said is swelling? That looked very odd to me....
  12. @@JamieLogical - Ooh perfect!! You have already been there and been through it so you could be our guide! @@Elode is a nurse, so we would have that going for us. I have no special skills I am afraid. As many times as I have been to Mexico AND live in Texas AND took 4 years of Spanish in high school, I still can't speak Spanish. Well, I can understand some and can speak some words (I find that am much more fluent with alcohol. Wonder what pain meds would do for my Spanish? )

My 600 Pound Life: 2016 Season

@@Daveo - Heck no!! Those surgeons appear to be hacks PLUS I would NEVER (no matter how much free surgery or how much they paid me) be able to show that skin on TV! How about you? If you were at goal (which still am not either), would you be game?
  14. @@Elode - I still say we need to work on a group discount / girls trip to Mexico! Who's in - @@Babbs? @@Djmohr? And don't worry @@Elode, I will have a drink for you. (Water likely, but still.... )

  18. Try Poshmark.com You can search by size and negotiate prices and some of the prices are very low - I just got some cute dresses for vacation.
  19. @@Elode - SO excited for you! Not sure which doctor you consulted in Tulsa but I recall a post a long time ago from @@OKCPirate recommending an excellent doctor in OK (I think with an office in Tulsa). I don't remember the name now though. Maybe he will see this and let you know. @@JamieLogical - So glad you weighed in. I know you have had great experience in Mexico and was hoping you would give dr name and other info to @@Elode. @@NewSetOfCurves - I am SUPER excited you used this doctor and the info you provided. Did you do brachioplasty? Your arms and abs look AMAZING! I looked at Dr. Fisher's site last week after you posted about him. I really like the info he provided. You would think living in Dallas I could find a great surgeon here, but I like the idea that Dr. Fisher seems to be such an artist specifically with weight loss patients. You mentioned you went home 2 days later. Did you not have to go in for follow-ups? I guess that was my concern - driving 5 hours for a follow-up visit too early in to the process. I like the Mexico idea, but I just don't think my family would go for it and couldn't take off for 2 weeks for sure. At least if I was in San Antonio, I could fly them back very cheaply if I needed to stay in SA for longer. Lastly, @@AvaFern, I am so glad you said you were able to care for yourself so much after these surgeries. I live alone and I have amazing family who will help, but I get tired of them being here. I have cared for myself (after 2 or 3 days) after RNY, rotator cuff surgery, hysterectomy and more, so it sounds like I might be able to handle this after a couple of days too. Plus I am starting a new job on March 1 where I will be working from home and it sounds like barring unforeseen circumstances, I can likely work from home (at least part-time) after a week off. Sorry @@Elode to hijack your post, but I am started to get excited about this and I am not even at goal! I am getting a little ahead of myself but all this great info has really helped! PS - I am going to Cancun on vacation Feb. 22-29. If you can bump up your surgery, I can be there to help take care of you!

    Carbs

My NUT (post-op) says I just need equal to or less than my protein. Some NUTs allow greater carbs than protein. I have always tried to stay around 50-55g carbs and done well with that. I am recently trying to increase my calories to closer to 1000 and it breaks down as 105g protein / 75g carbs and 30g fat. I don't always stick to that (I tend to go over on fat and less carbs).
  21. It shouldn't. They hurt (as you know by now), but they are fairly common. The only thing I can see slowing you down is if you have a one that is too large to be passed and is blocking something - even then likely not an issue. I have a long history of stones (in fact passed a rather large one the day after my bypass surgery ). I will tell you that there is some speculation that they could possibly get worse after surgery, but mine actually seem to be better (oddly). Even with, my endocrinologist and urologist were very happy for me to pursue WLS without worry. Some people have one incidence with them and then never have them again...
