What to do with your old clothes?

Well, here's an idea.......anyone looking to get rid of clothing can post exactly what they have and in what sizes....anyone needing those sizes can contact that person. Because it won't ever be a "fair" trade(because the person giving will be smaller than the person receiving), the person giving the clothes can pack them up and send them C.O.D.to the person wanting them. Even if you may never find any clothing that you are interested in among the hundreds of people on this forum, odds are that you would, you at least know that your efforts to go to the post office will have made someone else's day a bit better. What do you think?
  2. I get banded on Jan 25th. This is my schedule...it sounds a little more aggressive that most other schedules.. 3-7 days Clear liquids 2-3 weeks pureed foods solids after that
  3. Sorry for the dumb question, but why do I see some people with 10cc bands and some with 4 cc bands? Amy
  4. I don't know how to post a poll, but I NEED to now more about the effects of air travel and scuba....we are going to Mexico two months post-op. If there are issues there, I need to know! I'm starting to get a little freaked out!
  5. Yea, I pretty much suck. You'd think I had never starved myself before! I am having such a hard time! If it were just me, I think it would be different, but with my husband and the two boys, there is always food needing to be made and I don't know how much more of this I can handle! Boy, I'm cranky! I have just called EVERY person in my phone book today, to keep my mouth moving without thinking about the food that I'm not supposed to be putting in my mouth! What is my problem! Why is this so hard. I shoveled my neighbors driveway the other day, and she came over today with a freakin BOX OF CHOCOLATES to say thankyou! What the heck! Amy

    I am such a looser!

Ok, so today was SUPPOSED to be my first day of pre-op diet.......I had my two shakes, the second one at around 1 and had to wait until 6 to eat(that's when I feed the kids). I sat them down and sat with them (we always eat as a family, together...that will never change, it is too important to both my husband and I) I was doing fine.....fine.......fine........then, the smell of the BBQ chicken just grabbed me! The kids finished, and left some on their plates. I took their plates to the kitchen...I'm still doing fine......and I before I knew it, the scraps were in my stomach! For the love of all that is Holy! What is wrong with me! I can't make one day!~ Frustrated, Amy

    Ovary drilling

Hey, just wondering if anyone has had ovarian drilling done while having the band put in. My endo says that it will greatly decrease hair growth. The number of hair follicles will be the same, but the rate at which the hair grows is significantly slower. I guess drilling the ovaries releases excess male hormone that is stored inside. Any thoughts? Amy

    So CAL Bandsters

It's not a typical AFB, it is actually an AF Station. The housins is down in San Pedro(19 mi) and the actual base/commissary is up in El Segundo. Not sure where we will be living. I didn't know that there was such a thing as fill centers. Thanks for the tip. When did you have your surgery? I am slated for Jan 25th. We are at Wright Patterson AFB right now, so I'm getting it done there. Tricare doesn't cover fills as of right now, unless you get it done where you had your surgery. But the surgeon said that the Lapband rep told him the other daya that Tricare picked them up, so in the near future, the fills will be covered! If you were active, you should still be grandfathered in, check it out! Could save you some dough! We move at the end of March, so I should be able to get my first two or three fills in before we go. Have a great week! amy

    So CAL Bandsters

Hey, we are moving to socal at the end of march. We are military, but I have to pay for fills. Does anyone know of a good fill doc that doesn't cost an arm and a leg? We will be at LA AFB, El Segundo area or south to San Pedro. Thanks, Amy

    Spicing it up

My packet of post op info says that you can use baby food for the mushy stage. Even food that you puree in the processor, can you add spices to it to make it kind of taste like "real" food? Or does it need to be bland? Amy Being banded on Jan 25

    Spicing it up

that's what I needed to know, thanks! amy
  13. Ktbee, Yea, I've been diagnosed since 94, the year we got married. We did about two years of oral (clomid) and 4 years of injections (gonadatropins) We did get pregnant once, but lost it at 11 weeks. We kind of gave up (my husband never lost heart, though) and I threw myself into a business that I had bought to keep my mind off of things. Two years after that, 8 years of infertility in all, I got pregnant with our first. Thirteen months later, I got pregnant with the second. Totally a God thing, both of them. This is the first time in my life that I am being treated for my pcos without the intent of getting pregnant. They have also said that I have sleep apnea, so that is what qualified me for the surgery. I'm hoping that this nightmare goes away with weight loss. Hopefully, it will for you as well, and you will spontaneously get pregnant like we did. Best of luck. I see that you are being banded just after me, we will be on this trek together! Keep me posted and I'll do the same. amy

    Anyone From The BaY???

Hey, we are moving to either the El Segundo/Torrance area or down in San Pedro. We are military, so the surgery is covered, but the fills aren't. I am being banded on Jan 25. The docs think that I could possibly get two to three fills before we leave, but the rest is on my own. Does anyone know of a good doc that will not rape and pillage for a fill? Amy

    For those who have PCOS

The function of metformin and avandia is to bring down insulin levels so that the crazy cycle of storing fat is stopped and you can metabolize fat again. I've seen that several people are on one of these drugs or similar....I would like to know if there are people that have both gone through the surgery with and without the meds. I'm wondering if just the extreme drop in calories has been enough to get the fat burning mechanism working or if continuing on the meds plus the drop in calories would be a faster means to a skinny "end". As I have been told by my endo, as we loose weight, our insulin dips back to a normal level, therefore, breaking the cycle of "backwards" metabolism. At least, that is what I'm banking on....I am being banded on Jan 25th. Amy
  16. thanks for responding to my concern, Rapkim!

    How&Where

BigLuv Between you and me, I sure he would rather have you skinny than to not have you, right?! I don't get banded until Jan 25. My husband was against it as well, dead set. I didn't want it to become a thorn in our marriage, so I prayed about it. He came up to me one day and we had a conversation about how he felt and he is on board. There are different consultations that you have to do in order to get approved.....ie...psych, nutrition and things like that. You might want to set those appts up and ask your honey to come with you to gain knowledge about it. Make an apt with the surgeon and get as much information about it in front of his eyes so that he can "see" that this is the best option for you....for him. Ignorance keeps a lot of people from being the great people that they were intended to be. With love, help him understand. Be encouraged, life is precious. Best of luck, Amy
  18. I was just talking about this to my husband today....I have pcos and take provera for onset of my mensus.....I usually get is on the third day after my dose.....that is the 25th! I don't know if I can let the surgery team throw me around on that table bleeding all over the place! Suggestions?! Should I not take my dose this month and hope that it doesn't come? I've spent most of my life not worrying about "aunt flow", and now that I'm going to be naked, spread eagle on a cold slab.....I don't know what to do! Everyone needs humbling experiences, I hope this doesnt' need to be one of mine. Amy

    January Surgery Dates

The doc had to reschedule me.....I figured out how to update the list! Yea!

    Newbie from Georgia

Pamlea I think that we spoke briefly on a thread in the recent past. Quickly, I have "officially" had pcos for 12 years. Figured it out the year we got married. We went through 6 years of infertility injections and nothing.....two years passed-threw myself into my business-and there is the first one....22 months later....the second one. The big thing I learned from that....God makes babies, not doctors or science or drugs. Anyway....I, too, was an athlete all throughout HS and college. I had a freak accident on our honeymoon which landed me with two fused vertebra. So, I wasn't as active as I had been. Unfortunately, with the insulin resistance that pcos brings, I have gained just over 100 lbs since 94. I was just put on my doc's schedule today for the 22nd of Jan. I am beyond thrilled. I have been told that my insulin should normalize, the hair should subside, my periods will normalize and not be so painful, my sleep apnea will go away, and I will burn fat like every other human on the planet! Yea! So, so, so excited. I'm grateful for this site. Amy

    January Surgery Dates

I have no idea how to do this posting thing..I'm being banded on Jan 22-rakes4321
  22. This happens to be my first group posting! I have been content with quietly lurking around the site, but I have to report........I made my surgery date today and it is for Jan 22nd. The moment that the doc wrote me in on the schedule, this overwhelming sense of hope swept over me. I am so blessed to have this opportunity! "Attaboys" to everyone on this journey. On the last train out of fatville, Amy :whoo:

    Question for those with PCOS

This is only my second post on this site, and I feel like I have hit gold with these couple of threads on PCOS. I posted a response with some history on another thread earlier, but more precisely, to your question. My endo has said so many things to me and it all seems like a blur, but these are some things that have been passed to me. -The metformin is used for the regulation of insulin only. But when your metabolism is "Reset" your beta oxidation (fat burning) can work properly. -The nerve that is compressed by the ring is somehow effected and tells the brain that you aren't hungry. Maybe there is some other signal or rewiring that this compression sends to your brain that resets metabolism as well, I don't know. To me, it makes sense that if the metabolism is reset through drugs, that when the caloric intake is lowered, everything acts as normal. But I do think that there is more to the nerve thing than we currently know. I am totally encouraged to see your pics. I am going to have this done soon and I can't tell you how much seeing your pictures meant to me today. Thanks for the pick me up. amy

    For those who have PCOS

I have been visiting this forum for about 1 month, just reading and hoping to get a better understanding of what I am about to get myself into. This is the first thread that I feel like I "get". I don't want to bore with tons of background information, but I will bullet some highlights. -I wad diagnosed with PCOS within the first year of marriage. (but with all that I know now, I had it in high school) -We were married for eight years before becoming pregnant with our first; and if that wasn't miracle enough, we had a second! God is good. -I have been a lifetime athlete. And in my mind, I am still one. -I injured my back on our honeymoon(the sex was great, but not backbreaking great. I was playing volleyball on the beach) Thus, two fusions later, I am pain free. -I am just shy of 6ft and weighed 170 lbs. not an inch of fat....all muscle. Now, I am 265. -I work out more than most skinny people do and I don't loose an ounce. I'm talking 45 min cardio with 30 min strength/core training 6 days a week with a 1400cal diet. My husband is a triathlete (which, hopefully, that is my goal) and he has trained me to ride my road bike like he does. My HR is at 150-160 for 2 hours with a cadence of 85-92. So, I am at my wits end. I am ready for this, but if I haven't been able to do it with what I've already been doing, I don't know if this will work. I have been working on this since my youngest was born which was three years ago. My endo says that basically whatever I'm eating is turned to fat and whatever I burn is only carb. Only my Krebs cycle is working, not beta oxidation(fat burning) Wow, not as short- tongued as I would have hoped. Anyway, it is good for me to see that pcos patients have done this and it is working. Gives me tons of hope. Amy
