  1. Started at 240, weight on surgery day (3/30) 215' current weight 171. I am loving working out with a trainer and building stamina. I just hit the overweight bmi, no longer obese.
  2. I weigh myself daily but only record my weight every Monday. I get to see the daily fluctuations and can adjust my eating and exercise accordingly. My weight loss is slow but that is perfectly fine with me. I have yet to gain any weight.

    Vacationing after surgery.

I know putting off the surgery isn't what you want to do; however, it might be the best option. If you aren't feeling good on your vacation then it won't be fun for you or your family. Just my opinion.

    When can you have......

Spaghetti squash is a wonderful alternative to pasta.

    Fat free Creamer...

I never gave up coffee. I only have 4 to 6 oz and use full fat cream. I am one month out and haven't had a issue.
  6. I use 1/2 scoop Premier Protein Vanilla Milkshake flavored powder that has stevia as the sweeter along with 3/4 scoop of Unjury unflavored protein in fresh squeezed orange juice and ice cubes blended in the blender. Tastes like an Orange Julius.

    Soft Boiled Egg

Prada, I had surgery on 3/30 and had a soft boiled egg this past Monday. It was delicious and didn't give me any problems at all. Just remember to chew, chew, chew. Good luck.
  9. I am happy that things are going well for you. Stay positive!
  10. My gastric bypass was on Monday and everything went fantastic. The worse part was riding an hour to the hospital having to use the bathroom because they needed to do a pregnancy test. Surgery lasted 3 hours and was robotically assisted. I have six 1 1/2 inch slits on my abdomen. After the surgery I was only allowed to have ice chips for the rest of day. I did get up and walk the hospital floor twice on Monday. I wasn't able to fall asleep but managed to stay relaxed through the night. Dr. Dietrick came in Tuesday morning and explained that I would need to drink 1oz. of protein and 1 oz. of water every hour (alternating) and if I could keep it down I could go home. I also walked the halls six times. Fortunately, I had no problem drinking and keeping it down so I was able to leave the hospital at 6:30 pm.Once again the ride was horrendous. The pain on the way home was my body is shock for what has been done to it. Today has been pretty good, I have been experiencing some pain on the left side but once I find a comfortable position it goes away. I walked 1/3 mile around the block. I have finished one shake and I am half way done with my second. They don't taste the same as before but I am hoping that will change as I get farther out from surgery. I hope my surgery buddies are having good experiences.

    10days Post-Op

I can relate to things not tasting the same and the lack of energy. I am having a hard time with the artificial sweeteners in the protein drinks. I am using Greek yogurt as my main source of protein now. You will get through this your body needs time to adjust to its new lifestyle. Your mind wants it yesterday, your body will catch up. Stay strong Sam!

    Bowel movement

I will warn you this is graphic. When this started "it" was close enough to feel. I unfortunately strained and pushed for over an hour then asked my husband to go to the store. As Chubbey1 said gloves and fingers are involved. Picking "it" apart was like pulling apart hard tootsies rolls.(I guess it is good that I would never been able to eat one again because now I definitely don't ever want one.) It took 5 minutes for the first one to produce a small result. After that I was still in pain but needed a break from the pressure, sweating and pain, so I went to lay down in bed for an hour. Got back up and used the second one. That was almost immediate. The size both thickness and length was unbelievable. I cannot believe that I wasn't in any pain prior. I hope all works out for you.

    Bowel movement

Sam, I would suggest trying an enema soon and some Miralax. I am 6 days out and had an extremely painful morning with an impacted bowl movement. It took two enemas and over two hours to pass. I am feeling better but I can tell that there is still more to come. Chubbsey1, I hope you feel better.

OregonTeacher so far so good. Where are you in the process? Have a wonderful day. I am just waiting for my day to come. My surgery is on the 21st and I start my liquid diet on the 13th. My pre-op appointment is tomorrow. I am starting to get a little nervous now that it is so close and real! I think reading about everyone else's struggles has a good and bad side. Good because I/we can all know what we might expect, but bad because we know what we are facing. Here's my good... Pre op was great I had no problem with shakes I drank 2-3 Premier Protein shake a day and I was allowed 4oz of protein if needed. I took "infant gas relief" drops to the hospital with me and the first night took one dropper full and two droppers the next day. I didn't have the gas pains that others had reported. The Bad...Two nights ago, I slept 11 hours, which was great but I didn't feel very good all day. I was calmy, had no pain but I just was not myself. I think it was to long to go without protein. By 6 pm I was much better. Last night I woke up to let the dogs out and took and drink of protein. I felt good when I woke up. The the worse thing so far happened. I had impacted constipation, It was extremely painful and took over two hours required two enemas to relieve. I just took some Miralax in the hope that this won't happen again. I read that a lot of people have this happen but I am not sure why the doctors don't address it. You may want to ask yours if there is something you can do to prevent it. That is all I have for you right now. I know we are all different so it is really hard to know what to expect. Stay positive! I will keep you in my thoughts.

skc72 My only problem was the constipation but that was expected. How was your day at Universal yesterday? My surgeon was Dr. Dietrick at Florida Hospital and the staff there was amazing too. Have a great day!

    Sleeved March 3 now Bypass!

I never had a sleeve because I have suffered from GERD for years and chose gastric bypass to help remedy the issue so I wouldn't have to take pills for the rest of my life. I had my bypass on Monday and yesterday I tried a new protein shake and within 15 minutes the nasty GERD was back so I immediately started taking the medicine again and haven't had any pain today. I take 40 mg of generic Prilosec. I hope the medicine helps you because there is no guarantee that the bypass will cure GERD. I am still hopeful that some day I won't have to take the medicine but only time will tell.

    Sleep flat? Post op

The first night in the hospital I was told I had to stay at a 45 degree position. When the Doctor came in and released me he said any position was fine with him. I have only been able to sleep in an hour and a half intervals but that includes sleeping on my side and stomach. I just have to be careful how I get in and out of the position. Good Luck.
