    "BFF" Went MIA...Jealousy?

Ohhh I'm SO GLAD I found this topic. Something along the same lines happened to me this weekend, actually ON my birthday July 3. No plans had been made for my bday which, sadly, is pretty normal. My aunt wanted to buy a huge cake and my mom asked me about it. I told my mom that I can eat cake, but I break out in a sweat when I eat it so I really don't want cake. Then too, I wouldn't want any leftovers and then my mom and sister and aunts would have to finish it. Anyway, I didn't know what time my aunt was going to stop by and I was headed out to the gym (got a week pass) and said hello to my aunt. She said I looked good and silly me, I thought that was an invitation to give all the stats.. how many lbs lost, my clothing size.. etc. Later on that evening, my sister told me that when my aunt came into the house, she said to them, Was I THAT annoying when I had MY weight loss surgery? And my sister agreed. She said I should stop talking about what size I am, how much weight I lost, what I eat. And my response was just.. Ok. I won't talk about it anymore. I read stories before I had the surgery how ANGRY people can get when you lose weight. For me it's been painful because a lot of the people I thought supported me were just sitting back watching and waiting for me to fail so they could Celebrate. But something went terribly wrong.. I'm not failing and I've lost a total of 75 lbs since I met with my surgeon. 25 pre op and 50 post op.. and still losing. I'm only 4 months out and I am ON IT. Only about 50 lbs to go to goal. So I guess I will just keep showing up for visits with my mom, and if they are around, I'll just hide in the guest room or something.. I dunno. I cried today over it. This is the most weight I have ever lost in my life and the smallest I've been in 20 years and I'm supposed to not talk about it? Pretend it's not important or it's not happening? Ugh...

How do you do your meals?

The same thing happened to me. I was a month out and only lost 10 lbs. I was PISSED. I griped and moaned, "how can this happen? I'm not eating anything! Am I one of those special cases where the person has a weight loss surgery and doesn't lose not one pound?" For me, the issue was Water retention, and I wasn't having regular bowel movements. That can sort of disguise any weight loss as a stall, or even create a 'false' weight gain (meaning it's not fat weight) on the scale. As the weeks go by your body will have no choice but to let go of that fat. You've got two things working in your favor. 1) you can't physically take in anything to slow down weight loss 2) at some point your body has to give up the fight to hold on to the fat. It's inevitable, and I know as each week goes by it seems like nothing is happening but it is. By the end of next month you'll see a difference. Just focus on healing and getting in your Protein and fluids.
  4. @ KingCake and @@ShellMilliner Shell is right, it's not about the lbs when you lose preop it's about shrinking your liver. I was so scared I was going to be one of those people who gets to the surgery and have them back out because my liver wasn't small enough. Weight loss is just a byproduct of the diet, not the initial goal of the diet. I had to get my mind right to stick with it and I gave it all I got. I thought about all those other times I lost weight, and how much effort I had put in, I knew I could do it again to get over the hump (surgery) and have a good recovery. I did the diet an extra two weeks for two reasons. One, my employer would not let me off of work to do it and two, I used it as a buffer in case of any false starts I had, food funerals, etc. Surprisingly I'd made peace with the old way of eating and blew straight through. I was focused on making it through the surgery to where I am now, slowly getting my health back on track. My employer ended up firing me for taking time off, but that's another story! No worries, I have a better job now and got the offer when I was out recovering! HA! I had a LOT of hurdles (people in the way) along my journey but I pushed through. I think that made my determination even STRONGER. Or, I'm just stubborn, or a little of both, LOL!
  5. @@kingcake I had some really bad gas right after surgery, due to the air that they use to inflate your abdomen during surgery. After the first two days after surgery I was just fine. Keep some Gas-X strips handy for after surgery, they have helped a lot. I had some stomach upset early on as far as diarrhea but I think it was due to the pain meds. Other than that, now my main problem has been constipation. I have to take Miralax because 7 weeks out i'm still on soft foods and not eating many vegetables yet. @@Bbyblueyez I have heard that it is the replacement for Gastric Bypass as well. I only spent one night in the hospital. I made absolutely sure that I lost weight before the surgery. I did the liquid Protein for two more weeks than required because I didn't want anything to go wrong. I lost 25 lbs before surgery and I'm creeping up on 25 post op now. I started the diet on January 26 and stuck with it up until my surgery date, March 6, 2015. So a total so far of almost 50 lbs and I'm only 7 weeks out. SIPS has been shown to be less invasive, quicker recovery, less complication and with the same or even better percentage of excess weight that is lost. So far so good.
  6. Hi Jenna! I stumbled across your posting under Recent Topics there on the right. I had the SIPS Procedure on March 6, 2015. So I'm about 6 weeks out. Ask away!
  7. Well Hallelooyer, I am so glad to know that I am not alone! I had my surgery on March 6, and I have not lost any weight since the surgery, even though I struggle getting down any protein/liquids. I'd say I'm taking in about 500-800 calories and that is GENEROUS. I'm mad too! Not because I can't eat more, but that the scale ain't budging!! food doesn't really bother me, I actually enjoy smelling food or seeing it even though I can't eat it. I've noticed that I enjoy living vicariously through others. It helps that I don't get hungry, no hunger pains or weakness. You are not alone! WLS is NOT the easy way out! It's a physical and mental transformation. We have to find other ways to enjoy life other than eating. We also have to remind ourselves that this is not a punishment, this surgery was to save our lives and also to improve our quality of life! What would be the point if we just go back eating the same way after we have the surgery.
  8. Get a 2nd opinion. This type of thing happened to me at my psych eval. Not only did the guy tell me that since I'd battled depression but that because of that I would not make a good candidate for the surgery. Then he harped on me about being between jobs and asked me how was I even going to pay for the procedure? How are you paying your rent? He talked down to me like I was a 3 year old. Primary care physician, waited until i was done with month #5 to tell me since I'd gained 3 lbs in 5 months that I was not a good candidate. I was not about to let these jack@%$es have the last word in regards to my health. I was taking two insulins, blood pressure medicine and oral medication for diabetes and you want me to do what?? Wait? For what, my health to get worse? Wait to have a stroke, heart attack or amputation or kidney failure? Wait? Wait my. @#%.... (sigh).. Don't let anyone get in your way of doing what you feel is best for your health and well being. I hope it all worked out and you were able to get the surgery and start your new life SippedChick
