Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
mclorrie replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I circled June 18 on my calendar. It will be interesting to see how close I am! -
You're not alone! I feel the same way!! My grandkids were playing a Dance Moves game on their Xbox one. I walked through the room where they were dancing, & the Kinect video recorded me walking through, and I seen it because it does a partial playback when their done. I didn't like what I seen either! I'm ashamed of myself, & how I didn't think about what I was doing to my body & my health! It makes me want this surgery so much more! I'm counting down the days!

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
mclorrie replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my psych evaluation today... Piece of cake! He told me I'm right on track with working on getting weight loss surgery! I'm at my halfway point! Getting super excited! -
Death: about 1 in every 200 patients dies as the result of bariatric surgery.
mclorrie replied to RobinL123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon says that the risk from dying from bariatric surgery is less than 1%. You are much higher risk of dying from the diseases caused by obesity than from surgery. -
Psych appt was this morning

Thanks for the information AlwaysVegas! I have my psych eval tomorrow, and I don't have any of those issues either. I'm so glad I found this forum! Everyone has been so helpful!! -
Appointments are starting!
mclorrie replied to ges12877's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi!! My surgeon gave me a check list at my first appt. I bet you'll get yours with your first appointment with your surgeon. After reading a lot of posts on this site, I think a lot of surgeons differ on what they require. They should also tell you what your insurance company requires too. They should be able to tell you all of this on your first visit. Good luck!! -
I had my sleep test February 2nd, and the technician woke me up three times. I slept okay, but when I slept - I didn't like the fact I had wires attached, and must of kicked off the ones from one of my legs, and at one time removed the one from my nose. The third time he woke me up was to be fitted for a mask. I didn't think I'd get back to sleep with the mask on, but after making myself relax, I was able to get to sleep. It wasn't very restful as I was exhausted the following day, but still worked the entire day. They have a company in their building that supplies you with the machines - I figured I'd go with them because it would be convenient. Wrong idea! I got the call from them to set up a time to get my machine, and was told they would need $300 up front - and the rest would be billed to me? I questioned this - and asked how much does this machine cost? I was quoted $4500 retail, and because of my contract - it would cost around $4000! With my 20% I would pay $800. My husband & I were a little sticker shocked over this, so we did a little research online and found the same machine I would get for around $1800. I called another medical supply company in my area and my 20% I would owe would be around $290. I called the other company and cancelled my appt. and am now waiting for approval from my insurance company.

Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?
mclorrie replied to Seahawkgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll be finished with my six month Doctor supervised weight loss appointments in May. So I hope I'll be approved to be sleeved in June! I'm close to having all my requirements done. My cardiologist has cleared me for surgery. I've had my sleep study, getting my bipap soon. I have my psych eval this Tuesday. And my f/u psych appt. In two weeks. I have one group meeting to complete; then I'll be well on my way! I'm really excited! -
Did anyone NOT tell their job about surgery?
mclorrie replied to VGB's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was open with my boss & a few co-workers and they've all been very supportive! I don't feel bad when I have to leave early for an appointment, because my boss told me "whatever I need!" I feel so blessed to work for the company, & the people I work for! No surgery date for me yet, after this month I still have three more doctor supervised appointments. I'm looking forward to the day I get to announce my surgery date! :-) -
After reading through my binder I received from the WLC last night, I don't think that it's a requirement. I've really never suffered much from acid reflux and I was told by my doctor to start taking OTC 20 mg of Omeprazole daily - which I am doing. H. Pylori test is done prior to my pre-op appt.
-
Thanks! I'll check at my next appointment. In my binder, under Preparation for surgery, preoperative testing - it says I'll have a breath test for H. pylori... No mention of a endoscopy...

Sleep Study - What to expect
mclorrie replied to Hoven's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used to, but had surgery to repair it several years ago. I had my sleep study week ago last Monday. They will have a wire below your nostrils (to see how you breath) in addition to all over you face, head, chest, & legs. I was awakened three times in the night with the last time being attached to a CPAP. Let the technician know you have a deviated septum. -
Hiccup... Sorry!

3rd time is a charm!

Yay!! Good luck with your surgery! -
I was told at my second nut appointment that I need to wean myself off of caffeine. I love my morning coffee, and I don't like decaf! I tried it, and blah!! What have you done to wean yourself from coffee? Did you go cold turkey? Or just decreased your intake gradually? Did you suffer any headaches? If so, for how long?

I'm getting antsy, & I'm not even close to getting my surgery date. I have four more Dr. supervised visits. My psych evaluation is a week from this Tuesday, & a f/u psych appt. two weeks after that. I've been cleared for surgery by my cardiologist, so hopefully the rest of my appointments go fast! I'm hoping for a May surgery date! I've been doing a lot of research about which Protein drinks to try. Looking at nutritional value, reading reviews, & ordering samples to try pre-op (primarily when I start my pre-op diet). I'm learning so much from this forum, everyone is so friendly, & have been great with offering advice! I'm glad I found you, and know I'm not going through this alone!

Weaning off caffeine...
mclorrie replied to mclorrie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Let me know how you do! If your headache doesn't last long, that's what I'll probably do. Maybe I'll give it up over the weekend, it will give me two days that I'm not working... And I'll be able to deal with a headache, & the sluggishness. When I tried half decaf & half fully leaded, I almost didn't make it through the day! -
I thought I would share this idea
mclorrie replied to minniegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought about that too! Especially when I have to do the full liquid diet post-op. I was thinking of freezing fat-free cream soup in an ice cube tray so that it will be portioned about right for meals. -
How to pass the time?

Why does this say the post timed out when it posted?
