  1. Positive thoughts @@Seahawkgirl! We're all in this together! I'm getting so ansy to get these weigh-in appts. done! I have my next one March 26 and two more after that! If I'm calculating it right, my last appt. will be May 21. Then the countdown begins!!
  2. @mykdsmom I've been "caffeine-free" since last Saturday! Today is my sixth day of having no caffeine! Let me tell ya - Saturday and Sunday was really hard! And my husband is so sweet! He's only had a cup each day so I wouldn't suffer so bad! LOL!! No headaches! The half-caff worked! My legs have been really achy though! I'm not sure if that has to do with caffeine withdraw or what! I've never had problems with my legs before. I don't have restless leg syndrome, and I'm hoping this is not a start! Ibuprofen is really helped! I'm hoping it's short-lived!! The good thing is, I'm now getting more Water in! I've pretty much doubled my daily water intake since I stopped drinking coffee!
  3. I had to sign up with a case nurse through Optum as a part of my requirements from UHC to have surgery. She didn't tell me that I had to lose any weight. I have lost 11 lbs since my initial visit with my surgeon, that's from eating healthier, and logging my food.

    How old are/were you?

Still waiting on my surgery date, but when I do have it - I'll be 54.

    Tomorrow it Begins

Good luck tomorrow! Wishing you a quick recovery!
  6. Wow!! Two business days? I hope it's the same for me! This month I'll have my fourth appt., and it's gone really fast!! I've completed all my prerequisites for surgery. I should be ready to go after my last appointment in May! I'm so excited!
  7. Hi everyone! I had my psych eval, & he cleared me for surgery. I attended group yesterday (required to attend one meeting by my surgeon). Fourth Nut appt. in two weeks! Then two more to go! Can't believe how quickly everything is going! I'm super excited!

    EGD?

Is a EGD a requirement before surgery? I see a lot of people posting about having one done. Or does it differ by surgeons? The reason why I ask is because it's not listed on my check list from my surgeon that I have to complete before surgery.
  9. I was a little nervous for my psych appointments too! I was required to have two appointments by my surgeon. My first appt. he asked about my past - was there any physical abuse as a child, or did I ever abuse drugs or alcohol? He also wanted to make sure that I have good support at home. It wasn't bad at all! My second appt. went very well! He told me that I'm right on track with everything I'm supposed to be doing for surgery, and told me that he was going to write his letter giving me clearance for surgery! Hope this eases your mind! And good luck!
  10. Well, I'm doing it! I'm giving up coffee! Had my last Keurig (half/caff) today. It will be hard because I love having my morning cup of coffee on Saturday mornings with my husband. But then again, I couldn't of timed this any better! At least I'll know by Sunday if I have any caffeine headaches!
  11. Congrats! Hope you get to feeling better soon!

    Want to know everything

I'm pre-op too, and can tell you to do your research! This forum is a great place to start! I've used Google, and YouTube for Gastric Sleeve and found a lot of good info there! Plus, I downloaded "The Big Book of Gastric Sleeve" offered on this forum - it has a wealth of information! Good luck to all of you having surgery this month! I'm hoping to be on the Losers Bench in June!
  13. I have UHC too! And I was pleasantly surprised when I found out my first visit counted as one of the six months! I felt like I got two for the price of one! :-) I started logging everything on MyFitnessPal.com - it has a really good database, and you can easily print off your food diary before your next weigh in. It gives you detailed information on calories, carbs, fat, Protein, sodium, & sugar (all the important things you need to watch)! It also links up to my Fitbit - so that activity is logged into my activity diary too! I gave up on sodas before Thanksgiving, and essentially gave up my sweet tea after I met with my surgeon. She kind of frowned upon me on that, and told me to cut back - so I just stopped! I drink nothing but Water now, and I'm down 11 lbs since January 13th. I'm also a coffee drinker, and was told to ween off the caffeine, so I'm drinking a cup or two of Green Mountain half caff. I'll be pretty much caffeine free before I get my surgery date! I have three appointments done, and after this month - two more to go! Good luck with your appointments!

    Soo nervous!

You might ask your surgeon. I heard that some insurance companies look at your starting weight rather than your weight before surgery. Good luck!
  15. I'm kind in the same boat as @JamieLogical. My husband is my biggest supporter, but the other night was questioning why am I going to have surgery since I've lost 11 lbs since my first visit with my surgeon. (January 13th). He said I'm doing great losing weight for surgery - why couldn't I do this in the past? We've been married for almost 35 years now, and he knows the struggle I've gone through with my weight. We divorced in 2008 and I lost quite a bit of weight because of that. We got back together and remarried in 2009. And shortly thereafter I had foot surgery which kept me down for about six weeks. I've fallen off the diet wagon so many times I lost count! Knowing I'm going to have this surgery, and following my surgeons requirements to lose weight - I'm seeing good results; which has made me want to work harder! He can't understand why I'm doing so good losing the weight because I'm having surgery, and why I couldn't of done this in the past? That hit me hard! I asked him the question - how many times have I tried and how many times have I failed? I just couldn't stay on task when I was dieting. I failed Weight Watchers three times and even had a go with Adkins - that failed when I went on a cruise! I look at it this way. Getting the sleeve will be the one and only tool that will help me to stay on task. It will teach me how to eat healthier, and to eat less! Hopefully all of his questions will be answered this weekend. I'm having him go with me to my group session at my WLC.

    GERD & the sleeve

My surgeon told me to start taking 'over the counter' - Omeprazole every day post op so I get it in my system. I've experienced reflux in the past but it wasn't an every day occurrence. When I mentioned this to her, she said that it will be more beneficial for me post op.

Thank you for your responses! I have f/u appointment scheduled next month. I might take my mask with me to see they can adjust it properly. If that doesn't work, I'll look into getting something different. I would think the nostril ones come in different sizes... At least I hope so! @@Cococat - I do the same thing! I imagine myself in "my happy place" on the beach with the warm trade winds blowing! LOL!!

    sleep study

I'll have my machine for a week on Thursday, and I have yet to get that wonderful night's sleep!! I have a bipap with a nose mask. I'm having a hard time keeping it on at night! I fall asleep with it but wake up not being able to stand keeping it on my face! Has anyone else dealt with this like me? And how long does it normally take to get used to it to get that great night's sleep?
  22. Good read! I'm glad I purchased it! I'd recommend it to anyone considering gastric sleeve surgery!

    What do you tell people?

"To each is own" I always say! Some people feel it's nobody's business but their own, and I agree with them 100%. I... on the other hand have told my boss, and a few co-workers which I work closely with every day. The reason being is - they all know what a struggle I've been going through with my weight. I've been working in the same company (same department) for over 17 years, so these people are more like my work family more than anything else. And best of all.... I have their support!! After I have surgery, and someone asks me about my weight loss... I'll tell them I'm on a restricted diet and exercise program! Do what you feel is best - it's your life, your body, and your decision! Good luck with your surgery!
