  1. My husband is scheduled for next Wednesday 2/11 and is suffering through the pre-op protein diet now. I will be sleeved 2 weeks later on 2/25, so I start my two weeks of pre-op protein the day of his surgery! He is using the Celebrate protein in vanilla and mixes PB 2 with it and it tastes ok. The premier protein chocolate is property good too. I am very picky so I am not sure how much I will get down. I have also ordered the sample pack of Syntac Nectar flavored protein which are suppose to be more like juices than shakes!.....I will let you know ????! Best of luck to everyone and I look forward to going through this journey with all of you!

My NUT gave us a sample of the premier shakes.....and I must say they are pretty good (and I am VERY picky)! Good luck!
  3. Hi @@no onions! I must agree that this app is very helpful whether you are deciding what to do or looking for support as you go through the process! I just found the site a couple weeks ago myself and everyone is very helpful and kind. Your post caught my attention as I was born and raised in St. Louis and worked the first 15 years of my nursing career at BJC hospital! We moved west about 6 years ago and I can honestly say, even though I like the hospital I work for......nothing compares to BJC/Wash U! I am 54 years old and a few inches shorter but weigh about the same as you. Everyone has their "ah ha" moment .... Mine was on a flight when they told me unwound have to take two seats and gave me a reserved seat voucher! I was mortified and cried all the way home! I am having the sleeve on feb 25 and am very excited. Chose the sleeve because I feel it is safer even though they are still collecting data! I am very excited, however very nervous, as I have been blessed to have never needed surgery before! My husband is actually having the sleeve done on the 11th so we are on this journey together! Wish you the best as you make your decision! Please let me know if I can help in any way????!

Good luck to both of you! I will be thinking/praying for you on Monday (and on the 18th????). My date is February 25! We can go through this together!

    Menstrual cycle

My surgeon's nurse went over the whole period thing and said cycle changes/irregularities are normal after surgery ????.
  6. Great job! Keep up the good work....and keep enjoying the journey! When was your surgery?

    PRE SURGERY SCARES

My husband is scheduled for Feb 11 too! I will follow 2 weeks later! I am relatively new on here as well and it has been very comforting to hear everyone's journey. I get the impression that most people are both scared and excited. I thought it was just me being a nurse and knowing too much.....but it is a normal process! All will go well, however I understand the feeling of the fear of life as we know it changing! Food will no longer be the focus and we will have to make huge lifestyle changes....and change can be scary....however, in our cases the change comes in a package of better health, more energy, better body image.....the list is long! You will do great!

    Before and now pictures

So awesome! So happy for you!! Look in' GREAT!
  9. Actually they have been doing gastrectomies for decades, mainly for cancer and excessive ulcers. People can typically live normal lives afterwards with attention to proper nutrition. We made the decision to do the sleeve because of the positive surgical outcomes (even though it is one of the newer procedures to be used for weight loss). Hope this helps ????.
  10. Hello everyone! I am new to this site. Our NUT told us about the app and I have been reading everyone's entries. I am excited to finally log in.... There appears to be a great deal of support and kindness in the forums! YAY! So my husband and I are on this journey together. He is scheduled on February 11 and I am scheduled 2 weeks later on February 25! We are both so excited to start our new lives, however, scared of the process/changes as well. I have been an RN for 25 years (and know too much for my own good...lol), but also realize the extra 170 lbs I'm carrying and the 250 lbs my husband is carrying is more detrimental than the surgery! My husband starts his 2 weeks of liquids Wednesday!! Anyone else scheduled around those times? Also, we are almost 50 and 55....are there others out there who have decided to do make these changes around this time of their lives?? Wishing everyone the best and we will be available to provide support to whomever!!
  11. @@LPSteven, thanks for the comment.... And congratulations on you and your wife's success! To answer your question re: band vs. sleeve...... Mainly personal choice, we have seen many bands fail (although I have heard of sleeves not being successful as well). There was also the "fill" issue and prior to mining to Palm Springs we were over 100 miles from the surgeon (inconvenient). We have been looking at options for over 4 years and the surgeons we have talked with recommended the sleeve over the other options. We know WLS isn't a cure but a tool to help reach the goals we have. Again, you are looking great and I am very happy for your success......hoping the same for us ????!

    I have my date!

Congrats! That is exactly one month from when I am scheduled????.
  13. It's also great to know other couples are embarking on the same journey. We will be only a couple weeks different so for the most part will have close to the same diet. It will definitely be great to have someone so close to go through this with!
  14. Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement. This is truly a great site and I am excited to be a part of such a great group!
