  1. I'm right there with you... On month 3 of 6 and I just want to be post op already. The WLS center that I'm going to focuses on starting the behaviors you'll need to follow post-op during the 6 months. This includes making sure your Protein intake is adequate (at least 60 grams). Eat protein first. Then veggies if still hungry then healthy carbs. Measure everything! Track everything (myfitnesspal) Another big one- Water consumption. At least 64 oz daily. Start following the rule of no drinking 15 min before, during and 30 mins after a meal. Cut out carbonated beverages. Exercise. Start doing 10-15 mins 3 days a week and work up to 40-45 mins at least 4 days a week.
  2. Pure Protein makes pretty good shakes. They are premixed so very convenient. They have 170 cals 35g of protein and 4g carbs. Come in a bunch of flavors- chocolate, cookies and cream, vanilla, banana, strawberry. I've tried them all and really like the chocolate and cookies n cream. I think they're also coming out w a smaller container that has 23g protein. They typically come by the case but If you get it from vitamin shoppe they will let you buy just one to try (or a few).

    Terrified of sleep study

I am a nurse practitioner for pulmonary/critical care/sleep medicine. I do not specialize in the sleep part but I do know that sleep centers will be able to understand your needs because they dont just focus on sleep apnea, they also trailer to all sleep disorders. If you can share your worries with them they will come up with a plan for you to make you feel safe. Traditionally most places will do a sleep study then have you come back for the results. If you have apneic events then they will schedule you to come back for another night where they use the cpap and find the right pressure for you. You might be able to do the study at home but the quality might not be as good as if you went to the center. Monitoring by video while you sleep may give them clues to other sleep disorders you have. You could ask for a split-PSG where everything is done in one night. They may also be able to give you a sleeping pill to help you relax and sleep. they also tailor* (not trailer) lol
  4. For those of you who's insurance required 6 months of supervised nutrition... How long after that did it take you to get surgery date ?

    Sleeve or lap band?

Sleeve... The Bariatric center that I'm going to is no longer doing the band due to complications. They said there are a lot of issues trying to get the right amount of fluid in the band. Too much causes vomiting and issues with ulcers/esophageal erosion. And too little means slow/no weight loss because the person can eat a larger amount of food. A lot of their banded patients are now choosing to be sleeved.
