Hi Letitbeatles9, I am a very bad sugar addict. If I'd have chosen the sleeve, I would have eaten nothing but frosting and frosties for the rest of my life, and never lost any weight. This is exactly why I choose the MGB (mini gastric bypass). Now I can eat whatever I like in small portions so I don't have to deprive myself of anything, but if I eat too much, I immediately feel sick and can get dumping which is a great governor for me. Also, I don't crave the sugar badly like I used to do, and believe me it's not because of willpower. Thank you for allowing us to share with you, and best of luck in your weight loss journey.

Worried it wont work
avriddle replied to staceymeaux's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Stacy, You're right, there is a very certain possibility that the Sleeve might not work for certain people. The sleeve is designed for higher volume eaters. I was a very low volume eater 500-800 calories/day, but still obese despite my honest and healthy efforts. If you are a low volume eater, then I would highly recommend getting a bypass or mini bypass. This way you fight obesity by restricting your intake, and also by restricting the amount of food your body absorbs. I can guarantee that this will work for anyone, and yes, you do get out of it what you put in. Best of luck to you in your search. -

MGB or OAGB in Mexico / India / other foreign country
avriddle replied to utahgirll's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
I had MGB with Dr. Zavalza in Mexico. I don't know how many he's preformed, but he has 5 years experience with bariatric surgery, and several more years experience with general surgery. My total package cost was $4800.00 US dollars. That included everything. We have a Facebook group too. My experience was remarkable, and this was the best decision, and the best care I have ever received. Now I am living the dream! -
CONTRAVE - med newly approved by FDA Sept 2014
avriddle replied to utahgirll's topic in GLP-1 & Other Weight Loss Medications (NEW!)
I tried Contrave just as it first came out. The Wellbutrin portion of Contrave improved my mood, and the Naltrexone portion of Contrave helped relieve general aches & pains. Contrave also completely relieved any of my food cravings and appetite, however, I could not stay on it long because I am one of the rare individuals who ended up with a Parkinsonian-like response from the drug. I was odd, expressionless, and felt like I could not move or function; like moving through quicksand. I also got a very bad migraine after the fourth day on the lowest dose, so had to quit after the first week. I have tried all the new and old obesity medications, but the side effects are bad for me every time, not to mention the cost on some of the newer ones like Belviq. Thank you to the help of BariatricPal, I had the mini gastric bypass one week ago with Dr. Zavalza in Mexico. Best decision I've ever made, and cheaper in the long run than taking the medications for even just 1 1/2 years. -
RNY or Mini Gastric Bypass?
avriddle replied to Okiebon's topic in Mini Gastric Bypass Surgery Forum
It's my layman's understanding that RNY allows for a 2-3 oz. stomach pouch (restrictive), and bypasses 3-4 ft. small intestines (malabsorptive). The MBG allows for a 4-6 oz. stomach pouch (restrictive), and bypasses up to 7 ft. of small intestines (malabsorptive). Both surgeries remove the ghrelin producing portion of the stomach. With RNY there's chance of intestinal blockage, and with MBG there chance of bile backwash into the stomach pouch. Both have potential for dumping syndrome.
