I have my ds surgery scheduled Feb 20th, It will be at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania with Dr Anthony Peterick. Has anyone had surgery preformed by him? Anyone had surgery at Geisinger? When I finally saw him after the 6 months of nutrition classes, support groups & surgery classes he was very nice and talked through the procedure with me then at the end he dropped the sadi-s loop bomb on me. Not what I wanted. I don't know why but I just said okay. Well about 2 days later after I had been stewing over this I called his office back to tell them I would not be having surgery there and spoke to one of the nurses who assured me that if I explain to him I want the traditional ds he will do it and has done them. I hate to admit it but I'm having 2nd thoughts about my hospital and surgeon. Anyone else been in my shoes? Advise? Did you move forward with the procedure anyway or axe the hospital / surgeon and move on? Thanks!

My Dr was going to do the loop because he said the recovery time was less and it was an easier procedure... I was grocery shopping on day 3 and at work on day 7, it was so he didn't have to spent 4+ hours operating. I made it perfectly clear I didn't want the loop so he preformed the pain ole DS on me. Personal choice that's what I wanted, I don't have any I'll will towards loop'ers, we are all in this for the same thing =) I'm 1 month 4 days out down 37lbs -

I think there are a great deal of newbies who have the loop but don't know it, several people have found out after the fact that they in fact didn't have the "traditional" DS which is why some of the DS'rs get angry. -

Oh, I thought they were a little more active. I know there are a few in the regular duodena switch group who have had it -
Never heard of him. Bariatricfacts.com has a list of really the only reputable vetted surgeons. Hope that helps!

I went home day 3, was grocery shopping for my family that night. Day 7 I was at work. But I've heard people say it took them a lot longer.

He probably does the SADI-S or SIPS, not a true DS. Get an experienced cutter!

They have pages for the SADI SIPS people, your right though, it isn't a DS and they usually don't have much advice for them. -

Sounds good lol are you on any of the Facebook DS pages? I use them a lot because the people have been so helpful with all my questions! Its a personal choice for each of us. My Dr wanted to do the sadi-s I just chose not to. I could only find 3 years worth of studies and it just wasn't long enough. What day did you have yours? I had been looking for someone to be my surgery date buddy and the closest I could come was 3 weeks lol -

My surgery was Friday 02/20. I stayed in the hospital that night and the next night. Came home Sunday morning. I had trouble keeping my pain meds down. My surgery lasted about 5 hours so I have a TON on air/gas to get rid of. Overall 3rd day out I'm feeling/doing great. 40oz of water and 60g protein and its 5:15 pm. I chose not to have the sadi-s/loop for personal reasons. There are no long term studies and I didn't want to go through surgery again if that turns out to be a flop also the bile reflux did not sound appealing to me at all and how you must defy gravity for the procedure to work correctly. Its everyone's personal choice to make. I did only take 2 weeks off work and from what i hear from other ds'ers downtime for most is a week or so. My common channel is 100. Glad your feeling well! -

I have used muscle milk for over a year for breakfast daily so I don't think I will suffer there. I just picked up premiere protein today because muscle milk is over the limit I want for carbs. I start my full liquid diet tomorrow = -
Severe Constipation: Advice Please

Please read the reply of the original poster who has taken the advice of veteran DSer's and it has HELPED! Fat is key in a DS diet, rny methods do not work. If you are not educated on the particular surgery why would you give advice? -

Hey! I was going to see Dr Bono in Hazelton but I have Geisinger literally in my back yard! Also I wanted to get the Duodenal Switch. Are you on your liquid diet right now or didn't they require a 14 day liquid diet pre-op? -

Question regarding smoking (quitting cigarettes)
KShingler82 replied to ohclementine's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My surgeon said 2 months and gave me a urine nicotine test last week (my surgery is scheduled for February 20th) and said they would re-test me the morning of surgery and would cancel if it was positive. I quit cold turkey November 30th 2014 after 2 packs per day for 19 years! Good luck! -

Thanks for the advise, I am going to talk to him a little more when I go back for pre op testing and voice my concerns to him a d go from there. The worst that could happen is I could end up with a different surgeon at a different facility at a later date =) -
Severe Constipation: Advice Please

The people who I have interacted with on the Facebook group don't count calories. I have the same problem with the dietetic people at my clinic, they are trying to tell me to stay under so many calories and so much fat but they are so geared towards the rny they don't really know. Definitely seek out the Facebook groups, they will assure you that the nutritionists are clueless with the DS diet =) its also nice to talk to people who are 10+ years out from the DS a d see they are doing fine! Good luck! -

Are you guys members of the Duodenal Switch groups on Facebook? They have helped me a TON! I just saw someone say their happy place is 120-150 protein a day 100-200 fat depending on what they can get in and less then 50 carb... sounds like your nutritionist is talking rny.
