  1. Happy 36th Birthday Kaitiana!

  2. Hello Katrina, are you still on here. I was banded by Dr. Wagner on July 2nd just looking for some people in the area.

Goodness...I haven't logged on here in so long! Going to try to remedy that now. Life's just been crazy! Will try to catch up on past posts. Hope everyone is doing well!
  4. Oops! I've been so busy with the holidays I haven't logged on to LBT in awhile. Can you please update me? My current weight is 262. Thank you!
  5. Actually, I think they DO have classes for people who want to learn how to flirt...I'm not sure where you would find them exactly, but try looking for body language experts or coaches. I know that I've seen them on television shows before. Good luck!

I'm having my tonsils taken out!

I had my tonsils out when I was 18. I have to say that it IS tougher when you're older than if you get them out younger, BUT the tonsillectomy was definitely easier to recover from than my C-section and even my lap band. Just make sure that you follow the advice to get as much liquids in when you can. And don't be afraid to use the painkillers as needed. My biggest obstacle in recovery honestly was having to deal with my 5-year-old little sister and 4-year-old little brother at the time sneaking around my mother to torment me. *grin* I can't offer any specific advice as far as having the surgery while banded goes, but I bet you do fine!
  7. Goodness...another November thread? It's impossible to keep up with all of you! =)
  8. Hello to all my fellow Novembers. I am doing fabulously well as far as the lap band goes. I am down around 22 pounds now and I have awesome restriction. No problems (so far) with getting anything stuck or PBing/sliming and I hope to keep it that way as long as possible. I'm slowly adding solid foods back into my diet and I must say Fiber is a godsend! :tt1: On the downside, what with my already weak immune system and then having the surgery, I got a nasty cold that seems to have turned into bronchitis as they so often do for me. I have an appointment with my doctor in a few hours so hopefully she will give me meds to take care of that. I have definitely noticed that the weight loss is much steadier when I make sure to get my walking in. Otherwise, the weight seems to stand steady until I walk more. Overall, so far I am very pleased and so glad I did this!
  9. You're welcome! Here is the link to Dr. Wagner's website: Bariatric Weight Loss Lap Band Gastric Bypass Surgery St. Louis Missouri (MO). You want to scroll down until you see seminars and you can find out information about his seminars there. Also, the St. Alexius New Start website is here: St. Alexius NewStart. Good luck making your decision, and let me know if you have any other questions! Thank you!
  10. Hi there! I had surgery on 11/17/08 and my surgeon is Dr. Van Wagner of Heart of America Bariatrics. I had my surgery at St. Alexius and had a great experience. Dr. Wagner also performed the surgery on two of my co-workers, who were the ones that inspired me to have my surgery with him. I second the recommendation to attend a couple of seminars in order to learn more about the surgeons and figure out which might be the best for you. I admit that I only went to Dr. Wagner's seminar because I already knew I wanted to go with him thanks to my co-workers, but it's never a bad idea to check out your options. Good luck!

    HUGE NSV... had to share...

I have to say I've been lucky enough to never be treated in a snooty manner by salespeople--lucky for them, too, as I would let them have it! *snicker* I never really understood the snootiness--especially in a profession where a lot of people often work on commission. HELLO, snooty skinny saleslady--that "big" woman in your store may very well be shopping for friends and/or relatives and "big" people's money spends just the same as "skinny" people's money! And if it's a store that CARRIES plus-sized clothing or items that are not dependent on size--such as perfumes, jewelry, etc.--it's triply stupid to be snooty toward overweight customers. Not to mention just plain rude, of course.

    weight loss

I do have to ask--are you walking or doing any other exercise? I have noticed that if I don't walk, then I maintain around the same weight. Whereas if I walk 20-30 minutes at least every day or two, then I steadily lose weight. Just a thought. If you're not walking/exercising* regularly, try adding it in. If you are already, disregard this. I will say though that the first 4-6 weeks after surgery are first and foremost about healing. Try not to stress too much if you're not losing that much yet. It should get better once you have your first fill or two. * Please note: only do whatever walking or exercising that your doctor has cleared you for. For instance, I have been cleared to do whatever amount of walking I want, but I'm holding off on other forms of exercise until my surgeon clears me.
  13. My doctor told me to avoid both beef and pork for at least two months--mostly because they are tougher/stringier/harder to digest/easier to get stuck on and make the stomach have to work harder than is desired in the healing stage. You might want to try avoiding those for another month or so and then trying again. Also, I do recommend trying some gravy or something with it when you try again to make it as moist as possible. Good luck! (And I agree--it took me awhile to realize this thread was over here--I kept checking in the November 2008 part of the forum!)
  14. I have to echo what the others said. I was banded on November 17th and was on clear liquids for a week, then full liquids for a week, and only this week was progressed to soft/mushy food. Next week I get to start eating solid food--BUT I am to introduce things slowly to see how I tolerate them, and I am supposed to avoid pork and beef for at least two months. It sounds to me like you ate way too much and the wrong type of food for the stage of recovery you are in. I would think that even if your doctor had advanced you to solid foods so quickly it wouldn't be advisable to try so many different types at once. You should definitely discuss things with your doctor if you are worried.
  15. I was banded on November 17th and so far, so good. I seem to have good restriction right now, and I'm hoping that doesn't change TOO much when all the swelling goes down. I figure most of it must be down already since I'm doing so well. My first fill will be on January 6th so here's hoping I keep doing as well as I am now!
