I have used both the chocolate and vanilla for Protein shakes and both are very good. I have not yet tried to cook with them.

When can you have......
Hagengirl3 replied to LexiNWO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you tried Shirataki noodles? They are made out of yam flour and have 15 calories and 4 grams of carbs. They are a great substitute for pasta but not so great that you want to overeat. You can find them in the produce section of most grocery stores. -
Had RNY on March 25. I meet my water requirement but am thirsty all the time. My mouth is always dry. The dental hygienist even noticed this when getting my teeth cleaned. Is this normal?

ChewingYour Food
Hagengirl3 replied to Prada-Savassi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, between the chewing, waiting between bites and the knowing that I will be full after 4-5 bites anyway, eating becomes a chore. I am finding myself becoming acutely aware of how often I turned to food for reasons other than hunger. It is a real eye opener. -
I'm full all the time
Hagengirl3 replied to Rochoa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so glad to hear that I am not alone. It has been impossible to come close to 60 grams of Protein because I get so full so quickly. For the last couple of weeks I have ended up with about 250 calories total for the day. Decided to add a Protein shake. I like the unjury Protein shakes blended with almond milk and ice in the Magic bullet. For some reason I have no problem getting that down compared to other shakes. -
Curious to hear people's stories of gastric bypass....
Hagengirl3 replied to RebeccaAR's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Had surgery on March 25. Lost 35 pounds before surgery and 20 in the last month since surgery. Have had no problems. Hardest part now is drinking enough water and eating enough protein. Once you stop drinking the protein shakes it gets very hard to eat enough protein because at this point I am full after 3 or 4 bites. Last night I made these delicious chicken meatballs. Ended up only able to eat one. It is a huge adjustment from the way I used to eat. I miss eating some foods but overall am thrilled that I did this. -
One Month Post Op Today
Hagengirl3 replied to Prada-Savassi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my bypass surgery on March 26. I have been struggling to get ideas for what to eat. Love the Atkins meals idea. Also the recipe ideas. If you have any more please share. I am so sick of cottage cheese! -
Had RNY 19 days ago. I feel pretty much back to normal now. The first few days the only real pain was when I had to get in and out of bed or a chair. The hardest part was the exhaustion. Was just so tired. Still feel more tired now than I used to but am sure part of that is the reduced calorie intake. I had no incisions near my bra line so wore a bra as soon as I got home from the hospital. The hospital stay was only 2 nights.

Full liquid diet and pain
Hagengirl3 replied to nikki.marie86's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just take it a day at a time. I had my bypass 13 days ago. I was just out walking and thought to myself, "Oh my gosh, I almost feel completely back to normal". Up until now, everything hurt and I was utterly exhausted. Each day you will feel just a little better and before you know it, you will be back to feeling like yourself. -
Lovenox injections
Hagengirl3 replied to turndown4what91's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was so nervous about giving myself the injections. I ended up doing best when I was distracted. So I would wait until I was on phone, talking to someone and do it then. Sounds strange, but it worked for me. -
Disappointed in self- Pre Op Diet
Hagengirl3 replied to avermette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 6 of the liquid diet. It does get easier. Try to distract yourself if possible. I have had to rearrange my schedule for the day because I know that afternoons are very hard for me. Try focusing on other things that you can do to make yourself feel good. I have taken long bathes and gone on long walks. I purchased a Fit Bit and really work hard everyday to get my 10,000 steps. It is great because instead of thinking about how hungry I am, I concentrate on getting my walking in. Obviously it is a mind game, but you got to do what works. Don't beat yourself up over what you ate. Just move keep moving forward. -
Got my pre-op date!
Hagengirl3 replied to GraceysMommy09's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Doing well on the liquid diet. It is definitely easier when I am keeping busy. Trying to get to the gym and focus on getting my 10,000 steps in for the day. -
I ordered 8 oz bottles of Isopure from Amazon. I like the smaller size. It is 60 calories and 15 grams or Protein.

First day on liquid diet
Hagengirl3 replied to avermette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am on day 4. I am doing okay. The unjury chicken broth has been a lifesaver. Also I get very excited to take my chewable Vitamins and Calcium (how sad is that!). -
Okay, so my surgery date is March 26 so technically I am supposed to start my 2 week liquid diet on March 12. The problem is that for the last week I have been eating so poorly (after 2 months of doing so well). I have put on about 5 pounds in the last week after having lost 25. I just do not have the willpower to not eat all the foods that I know I should not be eating. So, I have decided to start the liquid diet one week early. Is that crazy? I have read that some people are told to do a 3 week liquid diet so I figured I could just do that. What do you think? Has anyone else had a similar experience prior to surgery where they lost control of their diet?

That is a great idea. I think I will go with the no caffeine 10 days out like you did. It sounds doable. That is also great advice about once you can get 80 oz. of Water in it is okay to have a cup of coffee. Thanks so much for sharing that information.

I used to be a big coffee drinker. At least 6-8 cups of black coffee a day. Since making the decision to have gastric bypass I have cut back to the point now that I have 1 cup a day of caffeinated coffee and one "Half-Caff". My surgery date is March 26, so I have time to cut back even more. Do you know if it is necessary to completely cut out the caffeinated coffee prior to surgery? If so, for how many days? I am already afraid of how crappy I will be during the 2 week liquid diet.

Starting out at age 45? How common?
Hagengirl3 replied to KS123's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 50 and am scheduled for surgery on March 26. I questioned if I were too old as well, but am really happy to see that that is not an issue. -
At first I thought it was just a gimmick, but it has helped me a ton. Just to know that I walked 10000 steps makes me feel like I have accomplished so much. You can even invite your friends to be part of a group and it posts everyones steps for the week. It is fun and challenging. You also get a dashboard that you can view on your computer or smartphone that shows your hours slept, calories, etc... I linked mine to MyFitnessPal so I can see exactly how many calories I have consumed and burned off.

1 month to surgery
Hagengirl3 replied to foodfighter78's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am having my surgery at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda Maryland. How about you? -
I got the Fitbit HR Charge. It is great. Totally keeps me motivated. I started out struggling to get 10,000 steps a day but am now consistently hitting 10,000+. It encourages me go to the gym when I do not want to.

My surgeon said to start the all liquid diet 2 weeks before, so will start on March 12. Sounds like you are really ready. I have been doing one Premier Protein shake for Breakfast but regular meals and Snacks for lunch and dinner. Definitely need to get more sugar-free Jello. That is a lifesaver!!
-
My surgery date is March 26 too! When do you start your liquid diet?
