ohhh i was confusing this with diabetic ketoacidosis which is really really bad. der. ok. thanks for the info! do people get sweet breath like ketotic diabetic animals?
-
ok i'm officially confused. isn't ketosis a bad thing? in veterinary medicine it's like a life threatening emergency. i have to monitor my diabetic dog's urine for ketones like every few days. it can cause seizures along with other nasty things.

this thread is great! i'm 20 right now and will hopefully be getting banded by july with the 6 month diet my md requires. of the people i've told, half were like "yay! good for you!" and then some were like "you're so young. why not wait and try to do it on your own first?" haha. i've been going it alone since i was in like 6th grade! i mean your 20s are supposed to be the best years of your life right? why waste them being fat?

thanks. yeah, maybe people will voice concerns and they'll change some things before i get there. probably not but i can dream:p

Has anyone had lap band done by Dr. Boorse @ lvh? I was just curious as to what your experiece was like. Right now he's my number one pick for doing my surgery, mostly because he takes my insurance and is only like an hour away. Any thoughts or experiences are really appreciated.

my 8 year old yellow lab, toby, loves loves loves scottish bag pipe music. we were watching a movie one day and i think there was a funeral scene and there were bagpipes in the background. he came flying down the stairs, wagging his tail, and started howling like mad. we even bought him his own cd and if you say "toby wanna sing?" he gets really excited and goes over to the sterio. also, he's afraid of frying pans, boiling water, static on the tv, fireworks, thunder, my aunt, and the toaster. yes the toaster. he's odd.:biggrin1:

oh jeez. i'm sceduled to go to my free info session thing on jan. 3 at LVH. now i'm getting nervous. the problem is the only md i can find the insurance works with is the LVH guy (his name escapes me). stupid insurance. should i call my insurance company now to make sure i get coverage for this stuff? also, if i start a weight loss program with my pcp, can i get like a note from her for the LVH people?

oh jeez. i found a thread after my own heart. i'm a vet tech student and i love seeing and hearing about other people's dogs. sorry in advance if this is too long. i've got 2 dogs right now, toby, 6, a yellow lab: and my little beau. i'm raising him for the seeing eye. makes me sad to think of giving him up but i know he'll be a great help to someone. i don't have any recent pictures of him so here's some puppy shots. he's just over a year now. and i've got 2 leopard geckos and 1 crested gecko. i've only got a pic of my oldest leopard gecko, sadie. she's about 3. and here's grant, my first seeing eye dog. he works in ohio now with a blind woman. i'm so so soooo proud of him. here he is with his trainer.

i'm in the poconos so i actually looked at some jersey doctors first since some are closer than lvh. but they don't take my crappy annoying insurance so i'm going to lvh i guess. i don't really mind the wait though. i just hope the 6 month diet thing doesn't put me out of range for the surgery. my bmi is 41.5 so hopefully any pre-op stuff i do won't get me bellow 40. never wished i wouldn't lose too much weight before...:eek

thanks for such quick replies everyone! hopefully my weight when i start the program will be the one submitted. even though i won't be getting banded till like july at this point, i still get all nervous over stuff like this. reading the replies calmed me down though. thanks again!

Hey everyone! I've been kind of lurking around here for a bout 2 weeks and finally decided to join today! yay! so i'm going to my info session in january. i'm like 89% sure that i want this. well sometimes i'm 100% sure and sometimes like 50%. is that normal?:cry some days i'm so excited to be getting this done and some days i'm really scared. and what's up with the "before" diet? do you need to be down to a certain weight to get the surgery? cause i'll get a head start now if it means i can get the surgery done sooner. ok one more thing. what's the best and worst thing about getting banded? thanks so much! reading everyone's posts have already been so helpful. i can't wait to get started!

well i'm glad i found this thread! i'm going to an info night thing with dr. boorse at LVH in january and was hoping to get everything done over spring break. haha. guess that's not gonna happen huh? i'm not sure i can get it done somewhere else though... my insurance company, in my opinion, is pretty dumb cause they don't seem to work with alot of doctors. anyone know why lvh has the 6 month thing? the monthly meets aren't too bad except i'll probably have weight watchers flashbacks. lol. this is frustrating me right now. poop.:phanvan

thanks for replying! this might be dumb but what is PB? is that the regurgitation thing? also, how long did it take to get back on your feet and walking around. i'm gonna be doing an externship in spring (i'm gonna be a veterinary nurse) and it's all day on my feet. if i get banded the week before, do you guys think i'll be ok? thanks again!

hey everyone! i'm trish and i'm 20 and i'm from the poconos in pennsylvania. i'm still in the planning stages of the whole banding process but WHEN i get it done i'll be going to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown, pa. my doctor will be dr. richard boorse. anyone ever heard of this hospital? it's ok if you haven't since it's kind of a small town. but it's one of 2 hospitals in pa that got named one of the 25 best places in the country for weight loss surgery. plus it's in allentown, like the billy joel song. ok, rambling...... i'm also a veterinary nursing student and i should be graduating in the spring. yay! just wanted to pop in and say hello:Bunny
